We booked at the Alexandra because of the close proximity to the station as we were booked on the Jacobite train. We had an excellent spotlessly clean room with great facilities. The bathroom was beautiful with lovely fluffy soft white towels. The breakfast was more than you could ever want with good service from the staff. The hotel is so central for the shops that we did not have to use the car when we were there. You could also have meals in the hotel with a good choice of food on offer. I could not fault the hotel for anything at all.

I have stayed at 'The Alex' many times. I like the friendliness of the staff and their acceptance that lots of guests will - like me - be there for the mountains, the glens, and the hill walking, so will be dressed pretty casually. You can walk into the bar or the Food Stop, still wearing boots and outdoor gear, without feeling out of place. Equally, you can put on something smarter if you like, and you will still blend in very happily. The hotel's location at the end of Fort William's pedestrianised main street, yet set back behind a pleasant green, is excellent. Shops, bars, restaurants, the loch, the old fort, and the railway station are all just a couple of minutes away. There is nothing that I myself did not like, but I have sometimes heard other guests whose expectations have been unreasonably high. Anyone looking for five-star luxury should look elsewhere and be prepared to pay a lot more.

After walking the West Highland Way - and unbeknownst to them the staff at the Alexandra made a very tired couple appreciate what good customer service is actually all about.

The staff at the ALexandra Hotel relaly make an effort and that is a big plus to staying here. There are two restaurants which gives more choice than normal for a place of this size and the location is very central but never noisy.

Easy to find, but nearly no parking. This was one of several hotels we stayed at in two countries. Frankly it was the worst. The room was very small and needing a serious renovation. A lamp shade had large burn marks, the towels had stains and there was paint stains on the bed sheets. After a full day and long night we went to take a late shower and discovered the shower/bathtub drain was plugged. Couldn't take a shower or it would fill up. I called the front desk but got no answer. Finally I got redressed and walked downstairs to but no staff was there. I called from their desk with a number provided on a sign and a phone very near just rang and rang. Finally a worker walked through and I explained the situation and with nothing offered I asked for a plunger in an attempt to fix it myself. He couldn't find one so I asked for another room. He gave me keys for another room and at midnight my wife and I repacked everything we brought with us back into our suitcases and moved to another room. That room was in even worse dated and poor condition but the shower drain did work. The room was warm but could only open a window slightly and it opened into a small confined court yard so had little air to provide. Next morning we had breakfast which was fair and some dishes etc were dirty. At check out the girl asked for my room number which I had to explain had changed through the night. She gave me 20gbp discount but even at 80gbp it was not worth it and I would never stay there again and would not recommend either. I don't know what the places nearby offered but I would pass on this one.

We had a fabulous time at the Alexandra Hotel. The room was well kitted out, clean and fresh. The hotel had a lovely feel about it and was very welcoming. We had both breakfast and dinner and the food was to a high standard. The best thing about the hotel was the staff, they were so friendly and could not have been more helpful.

Once more the superb staff at the Alex surpassed themselves to make our short stay a memorable experience. From the check in staff to the bar and restaurant staff to the room cleaning staff they were all fantastic. Whenever I visit Fort William there is no-where else I would stay.

Room was clean and comfortable, food okay. Facilities good. It was a bit cold in the room as the window had been left open. There was a wedding on during our stay and the hotel was very busy but we were served promptly in the restaurant.

Our stay was wonderful and our room was well above our expectations and was the essence of comfort with a four poster bed! Our only request on booking was a room with a view and the view was spectacular. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and our stay was lovely. We were made to feel special by pleasant and friendly staff who were unaware of this. We will most certainly be returning and recommending The Alexandra to friends and family. Thank You
