I have stayed at 'The Alex' many times. I like the friendliness of the staff and their acceptance that lots of guests will - like me - be there for the mountains, the glens, and the hill walking, so will be dressed pretty casually. You can walk into the bar or the Food Stop, still wearing boots and outdoor gear, without feeling out of place. Equally, you can put on something smarter if you like, and you will still blend in very happily. The hotel's location at the end of Fort William's pedestrianised main street, yet set back behind a pleasant green, is excellent. Shops, bars, restaurants, the loch, the old fort, and the railway station are all just a couple of minutes away. There is nothing that I myself did not like, but I have sometimes heard other guests whose expectations have been unreasonably high. Anyone looking for five-star luxury should look elsewhere and be prepared to pay a lot more.

We booked at the Alexandra because of the close proximity to the station as we were booked on the Jacobite train. We had an excellent spotlessly clean room with great facilities. The bathroom was beautiful with lovely fluffy soft white towels. The breakfast was more than you could ever want with good service from the staff. The hotel is so central for the shops that we did not have to use the car when we were there. You could also have meals in the hotel with a good choice of food on offer. I could not fault the hotel for anything at all.

The room was excellent. I had everything I needed, it was clean and warm. The staff throughout the hotel were excellent from reception to cleaning staff - friendly helpful and obliging. The hotel was very central to everything in town, easy to find for a driver and ample parking. Any issues which were minor were quickly and obligingly resolved.

Good Parking facilities.Excellent proximity to tourist attractions. , Wifi adequate, but variable.Dinner food and breakfasts very good. Staff helpful and pleasant . Lift out of order with elderly guests having real problems getting to rooms.Lift was jammed on 1st floor when we left. Not good with heavy coach traffic through hotel.

Very friendly and helpful reception staff. Our room was part of the old building and was large and had good views of the loch.It was also very clean and the bathroom was modern. We were bb and the buffett breakfast was very good. We also ate at the Food Stop and hotel restaurant which were both very good. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and efficient. The location is probably about the best in Fort William as it is just across from a supermarket and the rail and bus stations and the shops etc are a short walk. The mattress was a bit too hard for me.

Location - right in the heart of Fort William. My room on the first floor was a little bit noisy. During the day there was a continuous 'hum' from the air conditioning / exhaust fan (?) on the ground floor.

I booked a single room and was upgraded to a double room with a view of the loch, which was fantastic. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows (usually a bugbear of mine). There was facilities for making tea, coffee or hot chocolate and packets of shortbread were also provided (2 biscuits to a pack). The bathroon was spacious and the shower was fantastic, powerful but easy to control to get exactly the amount of spray and temperature you want. The buffet breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and kept you going for most of the day. I also chose to take my evening meals in the restaurant where there was a good choice available each evening (different choices each time) served by very helpful and friendly staff. Very minor detail, but sometimes the vegetables were a little too al dente for my personal taste.
