Breakfast was excellent - freshly cooked and very high quality
It's a personal choice but the bed was extraordinarily soft - too soft. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room were the same as in any budget hotel. The whole hotel is OK but nothing special - hugely over priced
Restaurant and food
Room a little dated and there was scaffolding on the building
Maybe consider adding another lift and improve the breakfast menu.
The choice given for breakfast.
Offered upgrade to a junior suite which was very nice.
No fridge and the tv remote didn't work/had no instructions
very central location close to the train station and the city centre. Very nice large room with home cinema.
There was a humidity stain in the ceiling, but as the hotel was fully booked they gave us a discount so it was ok in the end.
Hotel was buzzing with atmosphere. We only stayed the one night but decided to upgrade on check in which we got an excellent deal! The fifth floor is well worth a stay. Quite & very comfortable, huge bed, excellents in room facilities & very friendly staff. Would definately go back!
Previous reviews had mentioned the scaffolding on the outside of the building but it didn't effect our stay at all, repairs have to be done!
Location , breakfast, service
Traditional & original decor could be perceived as basic
Efficient, pleasant, staff; big comfortable beds; decent bathroom; reasonably big bedroom; excellent breakfasts; very convenient for city centre; stylish ambience.
Temporary scaffolding whilst listed building had facelift; reliance on relatively expensive public parking [though at a discount]. Competitive price but still not cheap.
Staff friendly & helpful, comfy bed, bar very good, breakfast ok
The room was shabby, peeling wallpaper, marks on walls not worth £199 per night, not including breakfast.
beautiful building amazing restaurant
Really disappointed the scaffolding covered all the windows, it made the room really dark and it felt like a cave. Customers should be notified prior to the booking or a good will gesture should be awarded, discount, bottle of wine, something to make up for it, not just a note in the room. It's an expensive hotel and that was a big disappointment. Toiletries on the tight side, just one bottle of shampoo and shower gel for the whole weekend, most hotels these days offer a body lotion, hair conditioner...And they replenish every day. Very soft bed - it felt like a sofa bed. I did wonder if this was a spare room. High expectations but overall disappointed.
The breakfast was superbly freshly cooked to order - scrambled egg is best ever. Room was lovely.
Hangers in wardrobes are fixed loops so hanger has to be tilted from outside wardrobe - just try hanging a suit !!! Only one lift, sometimes slow
Decor was unusual and interesting, room was massive. Breakfast great - best eggs Benedict ever.
Parking info was wrong.
Very comfortable Super Kingsize bed
Tired bathroom needs upgrading No fridge/mini bar in Junior Suite! No shower gel provided
The hotel is located, the staff are friendly and helpful, the bed was massive and comfy. Good shower and some period features remaining such as tiles etc
The room we had was a little dated, almost shabby looked like it needed a good modernisation.
location was great the reception and look downstairs was really good
they called me up to cancel my booking because I got it too cheaply then they called me up to say that it was still a valid booking they put me up in a tiny room more like a cleaning cupboard and not as nice as the pictures on the site
The bed was fantastic... lovely large room... good range of tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
Only disappointment was that it was a Monday and the fine dining restaurant was closed.....next time!
Poor lighting in room (too dull).
Size, style and comfort of the room! Huge bed Excellent facilities Excellent food including room service. Professional and friendly staff. Overall cleanliness. Great public areas.
Two slats in the base of the bed were broken!!!! Would have expected mineral water to be complimentary in a 4 star hotel, not charged for!
Fabulous & friendly reception staff. An upgrade was offered to a suite which was very unexpected & made are stay even more enjoyable. First time we have stayed here & first impressions counted very much. We would definitely stay here again as a treat.
Nice hotel, undergoing refurbishment outside, so was able to get a good rate, parking is available at NCP across the road but is expensive - reception can give you a 20% discount on this IF you ask when checking out. We ate in the bar it was ok nothing spectacular but saved wandering around in the cold. Bed was super comfortable with fab pillows.
Heated towel rail didn't work in the room, but luckily i had a double set of towels so was able to use the second set in the morning as the others were still wet from the night before. Lifts took ages to come so using the stairs was the better option
We liked the old building and the way it had been developed, the room was spacious, with everything that was needed including desk, sofa and chairs, and also like deep bath and rain shower.
Cant think of anything
The renovations got lost between a facelift and an upgrade . The Entrance and Lobby are crying. Its a nice property that needs investment to achieve its apparent potential.
The outside of the building, despite having the scaffolding surrounding it, this was still the best bit.
Nothing like the pictures, finishings are poor and tired. It's more like a REALLY expensive hostel. Dissapointed really doesn't even come close to describing this experience.
There's a lovely ambiance to the hotel, the room is very clean as is the shower room. All the facilitiesI used were good and good quality. I stayed before on a recommendation and will stay here again.
I cant think of anything
