It's a nice location, great centre for Peak District exploration and a scenic large town. The hotel looks great from the outside and is well located for walks into the town centre through the park. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was good. Sadly the interior is tired. Some carpets are a little worn, some walls need a fresh coat of paint, and the toilet in our room hadn't been cleaned properly. At this price, we would expect more - just those few extra touches would make a world of difference.

The hotel location was ideal for walking into town, yet there was easy access to the countryside. No need for a car once there. Unfortunately our first night was spoilt by the hardness of the bed, although the hotel did resolve this issue for the second night. The thin white curtains allowed the early morning sunlight straight into the room, waking us before 0600.

The room was clean and the bed cmfortable. Good breakfast. Room 112 has been reviewed many times regarding the very poor shower/mixer unit. It does not allow a shower and the heat control does not work. The hotel should invest in a new power shower.
