The location was superb. Carole, one of the owners, was the perfect host. She was naturally very friendly and helpful. All the other staff were equally friendly and efficient. The room was very well-furnished and the en-suite bathroom was modern and attractive. The food at breakfast and at dinner was excellent.

Beautiful hotel, small and intimate. The restaurant served wonderful food and the breakfast was excellent with plenty of fresh choice. Highly recommended hotel.

We enjoyed everything during our stay, the food was excellent, the staff were excellent and the room we had was lovely with a nice view. We will defenitely return and would appreciate it if you would keep us up to date wi9th any special offers

We thought that the hotel and staff were excellent the room was very cosy and clean the food was one of the best meals that my wife and I have had at any hotel menu great chef first class. Staff very freindly. Will defiantly be going back.

Room was a little bit cool but owner explained the difficulties of heating a grade 2 listed building in winter.

Warm welcome, fast and efficient check-in and hotel easy to find. Very comfortable room and bathroom. TV with integral DVD player and a good selection of movies just outside on the landing. Didn't eat but dinner menu looked good and breakfast was excellent.

Friendly and most accommodating staff. Good food. Breakfast was plentiful and excellent - prepared to order and the buffet included fresh, not tinned, fruit salad! Jam was served in large preserve pots, not tiny plastic tubs or jars, adding to the notion of home-prepared decent food.

It's worth noting that the radiators don't cope well with wintry temperatures but the hotel literature acknowledges this offering additional room heaters, blankets and even hot water bottles! Staff go out of their way to make visitors feel comfortable. However, even the public rooms with open fires can get chilly so I would advise visitors to wear extra layers in winter - after all, Alston House is well north!

Loved our stay but would have enjoyed a drink by the lovely log fire,but when we came down at 9.55 the bar was closed! However, we still got a drink in the not so comfortable pub over the road.

It was very efficiently run with great friendly staff. Food was excellent and the room spacious and comfy. Good parking and the location was excellent for us as it was quiet and within easy walking distance to all the cafes, shops and pubs in the village.

Very friendly family run hotel with relaxed and informal atmosphere and adequate parking. The room was spacious and comfortable and the restaurant meals were very good.

Whilst the location was absolutely ideal (was doing coast to coast charity run) the facilities, quality and overall atmosphere of the hotel was excellent. The food in the restaurant was first class and a great range of drinks to be had. Overall extremely impressed by Alston House Hotel.

Excellent location within easy walking distance of shops, pubs and supermarket for buying sandwiches. The hotel is used to muddy walkers; you can enter the uncarpeted entrance hall and sit down to remove your boots. The food is good (especially the breakfasts) and there are some real ales. The room was comfortable and quiet (apart from the jackdaws in the early morning).

If you wanted to watch TV there were only a few terrestrial channels, but this did not bother me.

Much needed luxury overnight stay after a hard day cycling. Rooms were lovely and food was delicious. First class hospitality.

Very freindly and helpful, lovely setting and very good towards cyclists. Its the second year running I have used the hotel whilst doing the Coast 2 Coast Cycle route and will stay there again
