Staff very welcoming and helpful, accommodation comfortable. Breakfast Buffet was limited in selection, not hot and not very fresh. Meal was advertised as being from 7am to 9.30am,- we ate at 8.30am and were rather disappointed.

The staff were very efficient in such a welcoming way-the feel of the hotel was relaxed and comfortable. There were 2 evening events on the last night of our stay-which dismayed us a bit as we were fairly near to the function room-happily the type of music was mellow, and did not continue after midnight. We were also impressed next day that the reception staff wanted to hear our views on the potential 'noise factor' and also that they had considered moving some people in case they were disturbed. The fact that this hotel, like many others, caters for outside parties and functions can be at odds with the needs of guests who simply want to come and relax and unwind.

Everything was lovely. Nice people, clean, quiet too. First time I have ever stayed in a hotel with parties going on downstrairs and we did not hear a peep. Not even people going to their rooms. Lovely I have a bad back, the beds were really soft that you sank into them. Some people would love the luxuary, however I need hard mattresses to support my back. Not a criticism of the hotel.

This trip was a return trip to Alton where my family and I had lived many years ago. It was a very emotional visit for other reasons also and we picked the hotel because of its reputation from many years ago when we lived there and that was in the 80's!! The hotel staff were very welcoming and accomodating and at the same time it is a quirky hotel none of the modern plastic feel you get with a lot of hotels. We were given a lovely room and it very clean and comfortable. Had a great time!

Restaurant did not inspire me at all. When trying to check out a day early, this was the first time that I had had to call Booking.com to make an amendment; not sure if this was just this hotel.

The price was extremely good from Booking.com. We would not have paid the 'normal' full price. We had excellent value for money. We knew of this hotel but had not stayed there before. Staff were excellent, very friendly, most professional and courteous. Restaurant and bar staff particularly were excellent. Management were visible and went out of their way to ensure that we were happy with everything. Our room was spacious, well furnished and equiped, even with an iron, let along an ironing board. Meals were good and most reasonably priced, but book in advance - they are much more expensive if booked / ordered after arrival. Nothing, really. We had a really good stay. If prospective guests can't climb stairs easily, ther's no lift, (only two floors), but numerous stairs.

Very clean room with comfortable bed and spotless en suite. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent car parking front and rear. Restaurant dinner was superb and good value. Very quiet and tranquil considering the town location. Looks a great venue for wedding parties and car club meetings.. Despite what we didn't like we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and we look forward to our next visit! Only thing spoilt Restaurant meal was TV in the adjoining bar competing with a radio somewhere in the dining room. Full English Breakfast was very good but expensive and service was polite but could have been quicker. Poor choice of cereals and there wasn't sufficient butter and marmalade with the continental breakfast. A pot of coffee instead of spasmodic fill ups is also preferable. No lift to upper floors for disabled although plenty of ground floor rooms are available.

My wife and I stayed there mainly because she had worked there when she was a young woman (50yrs ago) and we knew that it had been upgraded. It was also convenient for a 70th birthday party at the Golden Pot and for visiting friends in Alton and our daughter who also lives there. The hotel was pleasant and well presented. The coffee I had came promptly and was pleasantly served. We liked the hotel and would recomend it to others. I found the termperature of the extension too low for my liking.

The Breakfast was great, the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was freezing cold when we arrived. During the night other guests were extremeley noisy, this was sustained and was almost directly outside our room (in the foyer area). I was suprised that no hotel staff dealt with this, given how long I went on for.
