Fantastic use of castle ruins as a backdrop to an old classic hotel. The landscape was beautiful, the ability to ramble through the gardens and ruins was unique. The hotel buildings themselves were charming in a different way. Staff was very friendly and the cuisine a delight. Dinner was genuinely intimate - the room, the cuisine and the service.
While comfortable, the room was slightly on the small side and the stairs are always a greater or lesser challenge to the mature. Sign posting at the front gate could be better - did not realize the gate was automatic (but slow) and moved on before it opened twice and could not figure out how to get in. GPS is a blessing in finding the hotel.
The grounds are lovely and we had a really excellent meal in the restaurant, but our enjoyment was later spoilt (see opposite)
he soundproofing between our room and the one next door was wholly inadequate, especially for such an expensive hotel, and we had a very noisy couple next to us (television, speaking loudly etc). We could hear every word. The night staff kindly moved us at 10:30 pm, but the disruption ruined an otherwise enjoyable stay. I wrote to the hotel manager in a constructive manner to formalise the complaint, but I have not received any reply. I detect some arrogance here.
No privacy with Knepp Room
Everything was perfect
Would like a spar to make it unbeatable
Beautiful secluded hotel. Attentive staff, and truly exceptional dining
I booked a stay at Amberley Castle for my boyfriends birthday, once the staff were aware of this we were upgraded to the honeymoon suite for no extra charge and it was just incredible. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Everyone was lovely and went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. The grounds are gorgeous and def worth a stroll around in the early morning. It was peaceful, comfortable and beautiful, we couldn't have asked for more.
The gardens were superior.
The bathroom was beautiful, but it did not have a door. The staff seemed rushed, and in one case, lacking common courtesy. We have stayed in England for three weeks, including Langley Castle. The staff at Amberley Castle was the least welcoming. Wifi was non-existent.
Unparalleled attention from all the staff committed to delivering first class service. The cuisine well deserved of the many awards it has received, with an array of ingredients making our dining experience a myriad of flavours. The ambiance of the medieval opulence gives this hotel a unique experience to be treasured.
I loved the castle and room.
I found the restaurant overly formal. I would rather experience fine dining in a relaxed environment.
Very beautiful property with a wow factor that is off the scale! Modern rooms with hints of medieval style, and such a comfortable bed! Lovely staff and a homely yet grand feel. Very nice breakfast.
Calling reception for milk seems awkward, we were in a 'Classic' room and no fridge/chiller was supplied. Generally very clean but the odd cobweb can still be expected, perhaps par for the course with such a rural character property. On the expensive side, but still good value I'd say.
A beautiful location, comfortable and welcoming. As an anniversary treat it was perfect, and we would certainly return.
The venue was absolutely beautiful the staff we've extremely welcoming helpful
Too much salt in my dinner but I don't put salt in anything I cook .
It was my 3. visit in Amberley castle. Al was always nice
Staff were very helpful and friendly The grounds were beautiful
That the photos on your website of the bedrooms were nothing like they actually were
Beautiful setting, great for a relaxing break. The staff were amazing and our room was really comfortable. Will definitely book again.
The service was so poor it put a dark cloud on anything nice !!!!
The service was so poor I would not recommend. We stayed over night on the 23rd August. We had children in our party and ordered our dinner at 6:30 it finally arrived at 8:45 to wait that long for sandwiches is disgusting to say the least breakfast was the same !! I would never recommend. When you put your guests in a private dinning room that does not give you the right to treat your clients badly with poor service we actually went to the kitchen to find out what was going on with our order !!!!
Staying at Amberley Castle is a unique experience, beautifully appointed hotel with superb staff who make it special.
From the moment we arrived we received excellent and friendly service. We were shown to our room and they made sure we were happy with the facilities offered. The room was excellent. Very comfortable and clean. We had drinks and canapés in the beautifully maintained gardens and a fantastic evening meal in the restaurant. Our rate included breakfast which was sumptuous. The restaurant service was very attentive without being overbearing or intrusive. We loved our stay here.
There is nothing at all to dislike
everything about the exterior of the hotel, the drawing-rooms and dining-room were marvellous
the standard bedroom was rather dark with no outlook, although the furnishings, bathroom and bed were excellent
The castle and surrounding gardens - charming environs. We liked the extras - croquet, putting green and tennis. The comfortable bed and excellent cuisine. It is a very lovely setting and we had a wonderful time. It is to be highly recommended.
Waiting to give our drinks order before dinner (some time). The staff though charming and polite were young and not very knowledgeable - they had not heard of Glyndebourne (40 minutes) away and the descriptor for the castle was misspelt - Arragon instead of Aragon in the information sheet. Even confectionary instead of confectionery in the blurb in our room.
Everything! One of the most beautiful places I have every stayed. The friendliness of the staff really stood out. At it was quite refreshing how relaxed and comfortable they made you feel compared to other High class hotels and Chateaux hotels I have stayed at before!
Restaurant was really first class. Very high level of cuisine. Beautiful old castle with delightful gardens.
Missing the client focus you would expect at this price point. 5pm was "too late to be served afternoon tea." Breakfast - 9.45am was also too late, we had to insist so had it in the library (the leaftlet did say10 am cut off). Be aware no air conditioning if you are in a hot summer.
Beautiful setting and gorgeous property. The staff are very friendly
Service for food in garden was quite slow - I was beginning to think they'd forgotten us - and it wasn't very busy. We were 5 people and when they took coffee orders they bought out 3, then after a long-g-g wait the 4th and they had forgotten the 5th !
I have stayed at Four Seasons and Ritz properties all over the world and I have never had the level of service this staff provided. The property itself is stunningly beautiful and the gardens are spectacular. My daughter is only 11 but we are already planning to have her destination wedding at Amberley.
Food was poor quality Lacked taste with no presentation
