Situated in the heart of the Lake District and a 10-minute walk from Lake Windermere, this hotel is set in 3 acres of tree-lined gardens and has a charming, wooden-beamed restaurant.
Score from 804 reviews Very good
Located in the charming town of Ambleside, in the heart of the beautiful Lake District. The Lakes B&B offers mountain views and is only a 5-minute drive from Windermere, England’s largest lake.
Score from 126 reviews Exceptional
Set in the historic Rydal Valley, amidst the fells, sits Crow How Country Guest House. Just a 10 minute walk from Ambleside the Crow offers spacious rooms with stunning countryside views.
Score from 201 reviews Wonderful
We liked the size of the room it was very large a bonus it had a whirlpool bath & 4 poster bed. Plenty of room to put our pet cage up as it was the 1st time we had taken our dog away in a B&B. Staff provided our breakfast in our room & was really helpful & friendly. Overall an excellent time in a beautiful area. Would stay there again.
Parking Breakfast Access to town
Beds same as other Band Bs I encountered in that the bedclothes were sparse and the radiator not turned on in the early hours when I freeze. But I am a special case and my wife thought it was beautifully warm.
Over bath shower was dangerously too hot The waterpressure varied so much. Much quicker and safer to run the bath.
An imposing old stone-built house near the centre of Ambleside looked great from the outside. Quiet. Ample private parking. Within walking distance of many good restaurants. Comfortable beds.
No lounge. Claustrophobic and badly ventilated breakfast area in basement. Fire doors pinned open at all times. Wi-Fi inadequate. Room was cramped with cheap furniture, damaged wallpaper. Radiator thermostat defective- heat fully on or fully off. Carpet damaged and stained. Bathroom dirty and stained with mould. Basin slow draining. Shaver light did not work. No thermostat control on shower - difficult to avoid scalding. Cold water supply inadequate sometimes stopped altogether. Extractor fan blocked making it noisy and ineffective. No stowage space for guests' toiletries.
Great location, easy to come & go regardless of time and nice breakfast.
No wi-fi and being told we couldn't have an extra shampoo because 'they're expensive'!
Very clean, good location and great sized room. Great parking right outside the front door.
No free wi-fi as stated, no soap in the toilet, towels and laundry bags left in the hallway and a lot of old and unused furniture just lying about.
location, free parking. a courteous welcome. breakfast was good. but no menu offered !
booked a twin room, the room was a single sized room with twin beds.. very cramped.. the whole place needs a complete refurbishment. breakfast in the cellar, is not a selling point. £90 is far too expensive.. I travel often so I know this place is way overpriced.
Staff very helpfull and nice,
Being overcharged for an inferior room, no wifi, no view, it would have been fair, had we paid the same price, then there would be no problem, as it is I'm pretty disappointed, shame really.
Location was good, and close to Ambleside.
Toilet that didn't flush properly, shower was either extremely hot or freezing cold. Had to ask for fresh towels & more toilet roll. A very amateur run lodge unfortunately. We christened it Faulty Towers.
Large comfortable room, clean, good breakfast
Weak shower, no toiletries, heating on for very short time so was chilly (cold summer day)
The location was good - quiet and close to the town, but not near the busy main road. Lovely gardens and good parking. An attractive building. Spacious room. Very clean. Breakfast was tasty.
Overall Ambleside Lodge looks a bit 'tired'. The decor is neutral but a bit shabby in places, and would benefit from a more contemporary and trendier look, to really highlight the features of the building, and give it some 'wow' factor. The breakfast area was a bit airless, dark and depressing.
location of the lodge and easy enough to find , refund for second nights stay , breakfasts
Rudeness of one staff member , staff members arguing with each other and other guests , dirty room and poor facilites` , ie toilet and jacuzzi bath not working ,wifi poor or non existent and no one reception only a note to ring a member of staff , poorly lit accommodation ,
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable
The reception area was unwelcoming and dark. The bath towels were inadequate. The system the family undertake at breakfast in terms of task allocation confuses them. Our tea, water, toast ended up on other tables on more than one occasion. The initial welcome was poor having to phone and leave a message to announce our arrival.
Location and parking
hard mattress and creaky 4 poster bed, toilet that wouldn't flush, door lock where key just kept turning so preventing you getting into the room, sofa and carpets needed a good clean, room very dark due to the ceiling being painted blue so needed lights on all time
Convenient location. Staff friendly. Breakfast OK
The place is looks like little has changed in 50 years.......desperate for some serious upgrading!
The elderly couple who run the place clearly cut corners. The towels weren't changed during our 4 night stay, the bin wasn't emptied and the bedroom and bathroom weren't touched. Breakfast was cooked with cheapo products. The room was dim, not helped by the fact that one if the light bulbs needed replacing and the shaver light was broken. All in all, an underwhelming experience in my view and my friend's view.
Loved the location, in the middle of so many nice place and easy to reach by walking, rooms cleaned really well, staff very helpfull and friendly, plenty of parking space and decent size room.
Decoration needs to be brought up to date, corridors are very dark and at the bottom of the hill the sign for the Lodge, just at the junction, is covered up by bushes and trees, if we would have seen this we would not have followed the sign for town.
room o.k quite small, think it might of been a childrens room ? but very clean. beds were nice and comfy, slept really well. the couple running the lodge were really nice people, just not around to ask any queries ? breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. the lodge its self is a large older type building which i liked.
no one was around when you needed them, was looking for someone to ask for some little cartons of milk for coffee, phoned the no on the desk for help but no one was there to answer phone in reception, waited a while then Had to walk back into ambleside town for a carton of milk, was not bothered about the cost of the milk just the inconveinance of having to go back into the town after walking all day. also no hot water the following morning to shower.
breakfast was excellent hot and well cooked staff very friendly
no hand towels no hairdryer and toilet did not flush i would have thought these to be basic necessities.
Family run home with attention to detail. Excellent breakfasts in friendly surroundings. Excellent spot for getting around the Lake District. Plenty of parking and easy walking distance from Ambleside.
Made to feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble.
friendly staff very helpful nice big room
The relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. The building itself is most impressive and the grounds are very good too.
Creaky beds! Could easily wake up anyone who was a light sleeper.
Unapproachable manner of owner. Did not speak during our 3 day stay .
