Ambrose Hotel  

It was worth the money. Although the hotel is old and lacks luxury, it is clean, breakfast was good and the rooms are well kept especially the one in the attic. We were given personal attention and the people who run it are nice. The area near the hotel is not so good but this was not a problem for us as we went touring the lake district as from early in the morning and used to return late in the afternoon.Nearby is a shopping area which we found very useful.

Conveniant for Barrow RLFC

A couple of points, the soap dispenser did not work properley and the Hot water tap was insecure and would not fully turn off. Big upset at breakfast, no beans !!! and ran out of white bread but i survived my 5 hour journey Home

Breakfast was enjoyable a decent size full cooked english breakfast, it was fairly good value for money in terms of the room size. Our room had a full range of Sky tv channels which was good and there are bar facilities below your rooms, which were not too loud. There are also a number of food establishments near by which offer nice food.

The main bedroom was split into three single beds which was not ideal for a family, the room was a bit dated and could do with modernisation. There was a knob missing of the draws, a bulb missing from the side lamp and the door knob on the wardrobe fell off.

Good location. Convenient to the Tesco and surrounding shops as well as the restaurants in town. Also close to bae. Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere in the bar at night.

The rooms need some upkeep. It was clean and fairly comfortable, but there were several little things - a leaky faucet, very noisy bathroom fan, and a saggy mattress. However, I think these are relflected in the discount price versus the other hotels in town.

Nothing.. Noisy, totally different from the picture on booking.com. Very small room and toilet.no heating as it was v cold due to rain.

The hotel is very tired looking from the outside and inside is not much better downstairs. I definately would have cancelled and got my money back if that had been possible. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone it is not in a very nice area. The staff were very helpful though and the breakfast was good. The hotel is up for auction that is probably why nothing has been done to it.

staff were great, friendly. the hotel is run down and i noticed up for auction. the room was all you needed. and breakfast was ok but not fantastic but choice of cereals etc and drinks.

Very pleasant family run hotel, ideal base for visiting Lake District etc

I thought the staff was very friendly and helpfull the food was good as well the room was perfect for a family. The room had sky tv that helps when you have three childrens the hotel is near a shopping complex so that is handy .

parking was a problem when it was busy.

Food was poor like putting a cold meal on a red hot plate having to ask for butter for a roll no napkins

Relaxed friendly atmosphere. Decent pub grub on offer for evening meals. Normal b+b breakfast choices served with a smile and good banter. Interesting band playing in the bar in the evening, wasn't expecting entertainment to be thrown into the price of the booking. :)

No onsite parking. Had some difficulty finding it initially but my satnav may be more at fault than the actual location. Was slightly worried about the type of place I had booked from its outer appearance but was pleasantly surprised when I went in.
