The rooms were lovely and clean, great beds and pillows. There was no noise from the pub as it was deserted! The breakfast was lovely. The pub wasn't stocked. No wine, coke, diet coke, vodka, brandy or Amaretto! The hotel was advertised as serving food, but I was informed a day before our stay that they didn't serve evening meals any longer, and although we were able to go to a chinese, the area is not really family friendly for small children of an evening.

This is second time I have stayed at this hotel, I got a secreat deal for Double room which costed me £45 for 2 nights, its really great location as I visited lake disctict from this hotel as base, We went windermere side one day and Wastwater (wastdale) on the other so this really fits my plan both from budget and location point of view. Both nights I went downstairs pub which had all drinks £2 all winter offer, which is pretty cheap except Guiness and wines i think but they were reduced on price as well so it only costed me half as much as last visit at this place for drinks. For the price I paid for the stay I got this is superb deal. - Breakfast only till 9.30am come on no one likes to wakeup early on weekends/ Sunday, could you make it till 11.00 am? no one uses it from 6.00 to 7.00 so why not start at 7.00 and finish at 11.00 or atleast 10.30? - No Housekeeping on second day unless you ask for it? Minor- No Real ales at the bar

WE had stayed at the Ambrose hotel before and had a nice room and a nice freshly cooked breakfast. Gave the hotel a very good rating .This is our second stay.It is handy for us to see our friends and for the Lake district. The place was a different place than last time we stayed. Our room was a good size but unfinished The bathroom door was unpainted a to big for the frame and would not shut at all. There was no toilet roll holder, toilet rolls on top of toilet. No glass or place to put toothbrushes, gaps from the shower base to see the floor boards. The breakfast what was left was on a hot plate swimming in fat. fried eggs swimming in fat bacon not cooked enough There was a man with a parrot on his shoulder around food. This is a small hotel not a large turnover for food to be left standing.Breakfast should have been cooked fresh, for a small place like this. Very disapointed we will not be returning.

The staff were excellent and very friendly/helpful. Buffet meal had good selection for evening meal. The room was small and had one very tiny window overlooking nothing. Decor needs updating. Bathroom fittings were broken. Breakfast was not as good as dinner.

I felt that the price we paid it was very good. The staff are lovely and helpful and the food was good also the breakfastThe hotel is in an old part of Barrow but every thing else about the hotel makes up for this . Give it a try. They are all working together to make it work for the good of the hotel

Good buffet breakfast. Very central location. Dog friendly first impression was poor as the bedroom carpet was very stained. Decor was very poor and needed a bit of TLC. I imagine it could be noisy to stay there at a weekend but it was midweek and quiet. It was ok but because the price and the poor decor I probably wouldnt stay here again.

We choose the Ambrose Hotel as we were looking for some where to stay in/around the Lake District that gave us value for money. This place (£50 per night with breakfast) was exactly that. It is 45 mins drive away from the heart of the Lakes (Windermere/Ambleside), the rooms were newly decorated and comfortable with tea/coffee making facalities in the room, large tv and sky, fresh towels and good cleaning every day. It was warm and comfortable. The breakfast was great, full english available, as well as continental. It's basically an old pub, with rooms above. The drinks (as I read in another review) were very reasonable in price. The pub is not that (or wasn't when we were there) busy, so the noise didn't bother us. We also have no problem with parking, and parked right out front on the street with no problems. There is a good restaurant called The Duke of Edinbourgh just a few minutes down the road that I also recommend. As a vegetarian, the breakfast was just minus the meat. I would suggest getting in some vege sausages!

Poor standard of accomodation, lack of staff at reception and at the bar. Not what I was looking for and not like it appeared on the web site.
