Our room was spacious yet cosy. The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout and the staff were excellent. I would definately stay at the amherst again.

The staff at Amherst is very kind, helpful and professional. The hotel is close to the seaside, in a very quite street surrounded by nice pubs and restaurants.

The two guys who run it are very friendly and the location great with plently of bars and restaurants just round the corner from the hotel and only a short walk into the city centre and the Pier. Breakfast was continental but plenty of choice. The free snacks and bottle of water is a nice touch as was the free wine and birthday banner in the room to celebrate my husbands birthday. Our standard room (10) was very comfortable but a bit on the small side and up 5 flights of steep stairs so personally I'd pay the extra £20 for a better room if available (it wasn't when we booked).

Very friendly welcome and nothing was a problem. Rooms very comfortable and clean and had very good nights sleep. The location was perfect - just a short walk to all the action of Brighton - the Pier, the Lanes and the Pavilion all within easy reach and surrounded by plenty of restaurants and bars. Right up our street!! Our thanks to Mark & Lee for the exceptional welcome and for making us feel at home for the weekend. Would definitely recommend others to stay - you won't be disappointed!

Terrific welcome from the owners...both very attentive & made me feel at home as a single female traveller. Nice touches, the welcome box in the room which also featured ensuite facilities, a fridge and a super view of the beach & sea. All the main attractions of Brighton are within a few minutes walk...the Pavilion, parks, the museum, theatres & shops...so many shops!

We liked the very friendly reception we got when we arrived the service was great, the room at the front of the hotel had a veranda with a sea view and the room was very comfortable and spacious. Breakfasts were great although we only had continental .Also we were within a few hundred metres of the pier and the city centre. We would recommend the Amherst to anyone it was just what we needed at the price

In a dirty, dirty town the Amherst stood out like an oasis. Spotlessly clean and run by folk who were absolutely delightful, it provided a very pleasant refuge. It's a long walk from the station, something we noticed as we arrived by rail. It's also a fair way from the Avis depot as we rented a car the next day. These are very minor points.

We received a very warm welcome when we arrived and although we were early our room was ready for us. The attention to detail is what makes this hotel worthy of the good reviews on this web site. The location is good with restaurants and bars in walking distance. We will be returning some time soon but for a longer stay.

We like friendly staff who give us our own space which is exactly what we got at the Amherst. The location was lovely and is especially complimented on lovely summer days as the view is beautiful and location is spot-on. However, even if the weather had been rubbish the Amherst is still close enough to bars and shops so nothing will ruin your stay! Will definitely return.

I stay in alot of hotels for work, but the Amherst had one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in! Great location, just minutes from Pier and lots of great pubs and restaurants in the lanes. The room itself was comfy, and good ensuite and shower. Mots of all, the staff make this place stand out, their friendliness on arrival, great tips on where to eat, and the great breakfast each morning. I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Definitly down for my next trip to Brighton

You are surfing, thinking about budget, location, amenities and what rooms are really like. Well Mark and Lee at the Amerherst have 5 stars on all. They literally welcomed us with open arms when our taxi arrived. My wife is quite picky, so choosing a hotel to meet our expectations can be tough but the rooms and hotel is informal and fantastic for a long weekend. We were upgraded to a junior suite for 30 pounds and given a comp bottle of wine and birthday banners in our room as it was my wife's birthday. We had breakfast one morning out of 3 and it was great, just enough to set us up for the day. Lee and Mark also chatted away to us without being intrusive and were genuinely interested in ensuring we had the best time during our 3 night stay including good recommendations for new pubs and restaurants that have opened since our last trip to Brighton. Contrary to other reviews here, our rooms were light and airy, plus there were fans in the room should we have needed to use it. Overall - a perfect stay and we will not be looking around for a new hotel for our next visit.

The two guys who run it were great, really friendly and accommodating. Room was nice. Location is brilliant. Parking could be an issue - we had to park a fair bit away from the hotel although we had driven up to the hotel and unpacked our stuff so it wasn't too much of a hassle.

The two staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was very comfortable and the location was excellent (just back from the sea front). A bit of a pain to have to indicate the time you wanted breakfast (+/- 10 mins) the evening before. We opted for 8.30 the first morning and 9 am the second, but then woke up early due to the noise from the seagulls and would have liked to be able to go down sooner and make more of the days.
