FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Inverness hotels include a large offer of small, cosy guest houses, B&B’s, and rural cottages, allowing a closer contact with the nature. Don’t miss the Inverness accommodation deals on Booking.com!

    It's an amazing city!

It's an amazing city! It's so beautiful, not big and crowdy, but at the same time you can find so many things to do there. There are lots of places for a nice walk: along the river Ness, city center, Caledonial canal, woods. Loch Ness is just 20 minutes drive, castles, beaches are all not far. The Botanical garden is small but really nice and it's free! I enjoyed to visit Eden Court every evening - to watch a cinema or for a concert. There are lot of nice restaurants. The Dolphin spirit boat trip was astonishing as well! Really recommend to visit

Everything was within walking distance of the apartment.

Everything was within walking distance of the apartment. The walk along the Banks of the River and across the bridges was exceptional particularly with the spring flowers adorning the flower beds and banks. Views to the Castle and the Cathedral made for beautiful photographs. If it's nightlife you're after plenty of pubs offering live entertainment of a high standard. Choice of eateries to suit every pocket and every cuisine. No need to hire a car, as the bus station offers buses to a wide range of tourist destinations, Culloden, Nairn, Aberdeen, Skye and Glasgow to name only a few. We will definitely return to this vibrant friendly city. Shopping is also good both for tourist gifts and also for the shopping Mall experience in the Eastgate Centre. Maybe next time weather permitting we may see the Northern Lights? This city will leave you feeling you've had a break and enjoyed the walking experience.

Inverness is a great place to stay to take trips from, however not a great deal to do in Inverness itself. There is a lovely little botanical garden but took less than an hour to look round. The museum was dedicated to mostly the Jacobite period and taxidermy didn't spend too much time there, but they did have an exhibition on for bird photographer of the year which was amazing. Have a look round leaky's bookshop it full of old books you'd not find anywhere else. Old Victoria market also had some lovely shops. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Buses very confusing making self travel hard.

Things we enjoyed a lovely walk by the River Ness to Ness Islands. A pint at The Castle Tavern overlooking the River Ness. Shopping in the souvenir shops. Discover the enchanting Isle of Skye and the mysterious...

Discover the enchanting Isle of Skye and the mysterious depths of Loch Ness, two must-visit gems in Inverness. Whisky aficionados, remember to book your distillery tours early, especially for coveted experiences like the Macallan tour, as last-minute plans may leave you disappointed. We mostly savored homemade meals at our apartment but also enjoyed local flavors at nearby vibrant eateries. For those wishing to explore Inverness at their own pace, consider hiring a car in advance; it’s a short journey to the airport, but well worth the freedom it affords to uncover this captivating region.

It was my 3rd stay in waverley. The hotel is very well localised. From there is close to interesting points like a castle or tasty restaurants or finally beautiful path along river. Quality of rooms is adequate to prices. If you book the cheapest hotel in Inverness don't expect high standards. bathroom and my room were clean what is important for me. TV in the room.Always fresh towels and bin bags on request. Staff nice and chatty. I recommend for people which want to travel, see beautiful Higlands and want to reduce costs of journey

We traveled all over Scotland on our holiday on the train so for that the location was perfect step out of station next step into the hotel. Room cosy it was advertised at, very small would be more realistic especially for the price we paid, if it had been £100 cheaper for the 3 nights we stayed i'd have been happy but it was the least value for money of all the 5 hotels we stayed in on our holiday, it was clean etc no issues there. We didn't eat in the hotel spent our food money in the local witherspoons pub.

The sheer cleanliness and organised nature of the rooms. It’s few minutes on the road of entry to Inverness. Parking is available and the breakfast is good. But the best part of it all is that the hosts are the friendliest people we met in Scotland. We had a flight at 7am in the morning and getting a taxi at 4am would’ve been very difficult. So, when I expressed my concerns to them, they offered to drop us to the airport. And eventually he arrived at 4.30am and dropped us to the airport.

It was the best hostel I have been in my long travel through Scotland. Good relation quality/price, and in the center of Inverness, near the Castle. I was in a room for four, clean, comfortable, with space. Shared bathroom are very good, modern and clean. I did not used the other facilities. They have space where to leave lugage between checkout and gone... and the rest room is so nice! Definitely, a place to choose in Inverness.

Very convenient for Inverness and destinations on the A9, like Aviemore. Well-appointed kitchen, good fridge, microwave, washing machine. Excellent shower, separate bedroom very comfortable. Excellent blackout curtains, important in Scotland in June! Easy parking. Good wifi. Bread, milk etc kindly provided. So nice to be able to step out onto the little patio and see the hills, and I even like the fact that you can see the A9.

Beautiful house in a beautiful neighborhood. Easy, short walk to downtown. Great breakfast was included. Host family could not be nicer. They even picked me up when I got a bit turned around walking there from the train station! Inverness is a lovely city, very close to the Culloden Battlefield, the terrible aftermath of which is why so many Scots left Scotland for America, N. Ireland, etc. Well worth visiting!

Park Guest House worked well for our family of 3 on a road trip across Scotland. It was in a good location with private parking. We walked into Inverness in 15 minutes. The room was clean and had a kettle and some tea/instant coffee. They offer breakfast for 6 which, while not a gourmet meal, was perfect for starting the day. Overall it was a good value, comfortable, and convenient. I would stay here again.

Good value, breakfast included - standard across all Holiday Inn Express properties we stayed at in Scotland. The property modern, well maintained and clean. The room was clean, the bathroom upto date and well appointed. Good shower, with good water flow. The room was of decent size even with the sofa bed opened for our group. This was my partner's favourite stay in Scotland. You really step into a new world of tranquility when you walk in. The room is very spacious, more than the photos show. We were really pleased to find out that ‘pet-friendly’ is indeed VERY pet friendly. On our round trip throughout Scotland we noticed many hotels allow dogs in the room. But Glen Mhor takes that to the next level by letting your furry buddy accompany you to the diner and breakfest. Staff was also outstanding and friendly!
