Marco Pierre White's The AngelMarket Place, CO10 9QZ Lavenham (Show map) Good, Score from 104 reviews“My husband and I have stayed at The Angel before and found it to be very friendly. I have family who live in Lavenham and whilst there are a number of Hotels to choose from I would always opt for The Angel as first choice. Very friendly indeed.”
Sharon,
Heertfordshire
The Angel is set in the heart of Lavenham, one of England’s finest medieval villages. It offers tasty cuisine, comfortable rooms with private bathrooms and free Wi-Fi and parking. The Angel exudes Tudor character with its open fires and exposed beams. In keeping with the history of the hotel, rooms are beautifully decorated and feature TVs, hairdryers and ironing facilities. The restaurant serves traditional cuisine using the best local ingredients. Complimented by a well stocked bar there are also snug, terrace and garden areas for guests to relax in. In Lavenham there are wonderful tea shops and quaint gift shops to explore. The local Lavenham Sinfonia gives regular concerts at the Church Of St Peter and St Paul on Sundays. Between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury, the inn is located on highway A134, just off highway A14. There are several golf courses nearby and Newmarket Race Course is also within reach by car. Hotel Rooms: 9, Hotel Chain: Recommended Hotels.

Staff - friendly & helpful Food - "basic English" food done very well indeed and imaginatively. Good coffee. Old building with character, rooms comfortable. If you have reduced mobility, upstairs rooms are up fairly steep stairs.

Welcoming staff, very good food and service in an excellent location. The accommodation was undergoing some refurbishment but the bedroom was spacious and comfortable with all amenities.

The hotel is of medievel design and is more of a restaurant / bar type, there is no reception desk. Your however greeted once you walk through the door. Our room was large clean and warm. The restaurant we booked because it does get busy but was absolutely fantastic and was reasonably priced. Service was very good and attentive. The only downside was there is no lounge area downstairs.

Very friendly and helpful staff The primary focus of the hotel is clearly the restaurant which was very good. However the accommodation seems to be clearly something 'on the side' as a little add-on. For the cost per night it should be better. The rooms are nice and facilities are reasonable - some money has been spent on a few mod-cons and upgrades. The aim is obviously a character 'shabby chic' but sadly it's a fraction more shabby than chic! Our stay was a bit average due to some generator/fridge in the kitchen below humming and vibrating all night. Not exactly conducive to a good night's sleep. If you can't find anything else it'll do, but would look to a few other options int he area first

The Angel is now very much a restaurant/hotel and no longer has a "pubby" feel. The food quality overall was poor & certainly below expectation. There were problems with the hot water system & the heating system barely coped with the winter temperature.Overall dissapointing & not good value for money.

Food and service in the resturant is excellent The large bed was two singles fixed together, the on suite was small and the power shower did not have a fixed head so was hard to control and sprayed over the top of the shower

The hotel was behind the main street, in a very quiet location on the market square, which was largely free from traffic. The Angel is mainly an very upmarket restaurant with (I think) 6 hotel rooms. The room itself was nice, with uneven floor boards, very clean and smart. The free bottled water was a nice touch. I had porridge for breakfast, which was lovely and creamy. My husband had the full fry up. It looked nice, but the portion seemed a bit small. Overall we had a very pleasant stay is this beautiful village.

The location and atmosphere were excellent as indeed was the food, we had dinner in the restaurant & breakfast the following morning. The staff were all very helpful and very friendly. The rooms were tired and in need of updating which we were told was happening early next year, they had a complete refurb planned. The fixed price Supper menu was much more limited in choice than was illustrated on the sample menus on their website & indeed on the back of the menus which meant that some of our party had to opt for a la carte which made the whole 'experience' much more expensive than we had budgeted for......

We were pleased to be able to take our two well behaved spanials and stay at the Angel hotel. Staff were great on arrival, looked after us and managed to fit us in for an evening meal. We had to leave early the next day 0800 am to go to Cambridge and assumed breakfast would start at 7 Am (information said book out at 0700-1100) The man who opened up the dining room at 7 am was very helpful, arranged with the chef to get a early breakfast which again was excellent. Overall an enjoyable experience which we enjoyed.

Great location; good food,;comfortable rooms. Atmosphere superb. As a gastro pub it is superb but as a b&b it lacks the same level for the accomocation and also lacks a sitting area for guests.

The hotel has a prime location, in a very popular destination, however the rooms, whilst clean, need improving. The biggest problem is service in the restaurant, both at dinner and breakfast. Totally unacceptable waiting times, no communication and total lack of co-ordination. Even two floor managers on duty were unable to ensure that customers were being served in a timely manner and that any problems, of which there were many, were dealt with efficiently.
