Food and pub area. Location.
Accommodation is external to pub
Food was absolutely amazing compliments to the chef, bed comfy, room clean and all needs met will definitely return if possible
Nothing perfection all round
We were up visiting family in Doncaster and came upon the Angel via Google and what a wonderful find it was. Good location, very friendly and welcoming with all the facilities you would expect.
I recently stayed at this hotel on business. Although I understood that this is a budget hotel I didn't quite expect it to be as poor as it was after viewing the information and the photographs. On arrival at 8pm I asked if the restaurant was still serving food and the harrassed looking owner looked at her watch and looked doubtful but still said she could accommodate (for weary travelers at 8PM in a gastro pub this didn't seem like much of an ask). the food was over priced and bland and the pub was shoddy and not like the photographs. The service was brusk and rushed and you felt although you were paying a lot of money that they were doing you the favour. When showed to my room (which is little more than a brick shed in the car park) the radiator didn't work so I was put into another. I had to kill 9 flies before I could put my head down for the night-disgusting! The bathroom looked like a hospital or care home bathroom with no advice on how to turn on the shower-i had to phone to pub and ask and stand in the doorway in the freezing cold in a towel to get reception on my phone as there is no phone in the 'rooms'. Similarly there is NO WiFi. it states there is on the internet but the router doesn't reach the 'rooms' in the car park so you can only use it in the pub. I wouldn't recommended this to anyone as it is not that cheap and better services would be provided in a budget chain hotel.
This facility was superb and I have no complaints. The bar was very close, warm and comfortable and the eating area combined, with a decent menu to probably suit most tastes with fair pricing.
My only criticism would be the slightly "out of the way" location with no other hostelry in the area for a possible change.
Awful air freshener that is plugged in, makes you cough, very unhealthy.
Breakfast excellent quality- cooked by Simone the owner/manager. She was very friendly and helpful. Room fine although we were not aware that we had booked the disabled room. Thought it was just a twin.
Evening meal disappointing. 5 king prawns on starter! ( for £6 very expensive prawns!). Crab starter better. Lamb main ok but a tad overcooked. Steak - very tough - not sure it was hung for the advertised 28 days. We cannot comment on desserts or coffee as we did not partake. On sampling simones cooking at breakfast- she maybe better taking over the evening cooking also.
The place was in a very quiet location, and perfectly placed for access to Robin Hood Airport. There was a personal welcome, and for the wholw weekend the staff were friendly and we were treated as valued guests. The menu, with chefs specials, was adventurous and the meals were of excellent quality. We were meeting local friends for dinner on the second night, and based on our first night meal suggest that they should come to the Agel Hotel rather than going elsewhere to eat. We would certainly stay there again.
The only minor points were that we would have liked the window opening less restricted, and possibly minor improvements in the bathroom fittings. These did not detract from the enjoyability of our stay.
Every effort was made to make our eating and accommodation experience as good as possible. Very good value for money.Highly recommended.
the young girl that cooked breakfast could not have been more helpfull, breakfast was excellent, she was cheerful and helpful even though we wanted an early breakfst on saturday. great evening meals really friendly landlady and staff.
Excellent friendly staff. Lovely little village. Great food - excellent breakfast.
Rooms have a strange garage-like feel to them and we could clearly hear the people in the room next for. But it was a spacious and comfortable room.
Easy access to spacious rooms. Plenty of parking. Super food menu. Great wine menu. Very friendly ambiance.
Couldn't stay longer.
Fabulous Inn. Staff very friendly. Breakfast scrummy!
staff were very helpful, the food was excellent, the location was ideal.
the only (fault) was there was no fridge in the room, , but otherwise, everything was perfect..
I wanted a slightly earlier check in, got my 24 hr clock wrong and it was no problem to check in almost 12 hours early and breakfast at no extra charge, ket under the mat! Amazing, I only wanted to be there 2 hrs earlier!
Everything! It was a very pleasurable experience. The chef's Dad extolled her virtues and she delivered!
Location ,staff , food, and service
The room was designed as if for a personal guest rather than a paying one. We had a down duvet, large, plenty of soft fluffy white towels and flannels, power shower that really delivered, high level of cleanliness and a wonderful breakfast served by a happy cheerful young lady.
We almost didn't stay because we arrived at lunchtime to find the place locked up. Someone did appear and offered to let us into our toon but we had my diabetic brother with us who was on the limit of needing to eat so we drove away. On mature reflection over a good lunch at ate nearby Ship pub, we decided we had been hasty. So glad we went back.
Comfortable, quiet and spacious room with large bathroom, not luxurious but had everything we needed including extra pillows. Rooms are in separate building so no noise or smoke from bar area. Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast included, plenty of choices including yoghurt, fresh fruit, full English AND understanding of gluten free requirements. Delicious evening meals, several gluten free choices for mains and dessert, fresh vegies and herbs from their garden, quiet dining space away from bar if wanted. Incredibly beautiful pots of flowers around the inn.
Nothing to dislike
Pub Beer Staff Bed Wet room shower room Breakfast
Poor wifi pub Mo wifi bedroom block Closed road en route!!!!!
Staff very friendly and helpful Large choice of items for Breakfast Rooms are separate from the pub so no disturbance from the bars. Only my son and I stopped as he was playing in a golf tournament locally and will happily return with the rest of my family especially as dogs are welcome.
Service was excellent, attentive, friendly. Pub served very good food and good choice of beer and wine. Pub was attractive inside and out (amazing hanging baskets!). Lovely village location with good walk along river close by. Good parking facilities.
Disappointed to find the accommodation was not in the pub itself but in motel-style building at end of car park. Everything clean and comfortable but lacking in character. But this would not deter me from recommending The Angel or staying there again.
people very nice and nice to have accommodation and pub together.
seems like they were missing a chef as food wasn't like their ratings.
Great little hotel/pub in a beautiful village, just next to the church (no bells) - service second to none, staff went way out of their way to accommodate us, food excellent and would definitely stay there again if i was in the area
Rooms were just a little on the warm side but then it has been an exceptional summer!
Meals were very good and staff helpful and friendly. Rooms were spacious and clean.
