“We booked the last double room at the Ansteys Lea on the day and were given a better room than expected. Excellent value for money, I would recommend this hotel to anyone!”
Emmanuel,
Ipswich
Recently refurbished, this hotel of great warmth and character is situated between the center of Torquay and marina, and Babbacombe Downs with their magnificent sea views. The hotel derives its name from the enchanting Ansteys Cove, Torquay, once a smuggler's haven. Ansteys Lea was originally a Victorian gentleman's residence and became a small hotel in 1946. The building’s traditional Victorian ceiling with cornices and roses are a wonderful architectural feature. The hotel is on the main bus route into central Torquay, which takes a matter of minutes. Within a 10-minute walk you can be in central Torquay enjoying the Edwardian Pavilion, the lights and the harbor. Hotel Rooms: 13 Most recent booking for this hotel was today at 04:29 from United Kingdom.

we loved it, right from when we booked the management bent over backwards to help us, i was pleasantly surprised (well no thats an understatement i was over the moon with our accomodation) we only stayed for 2 nights and to be honest none of us wanted to leave, we would definatly go back and have already spread the word about the hotel, i really cant praise our stay there enough and would like to thank the management for everything.

The owner was very nice, good english breakfast, free internet access, rooms were clean and warm. It was a little bit far from the city centre and rooms were quite small.

We had been apparently upgraded to a larger family suite. On arrival we had to wait sometime in reception before being greeted. The hotel details online showed that the hotel had a bar, swimming pool and gardens, which were no longer there. The brochure in the room also showed the hotel having these facilities. Half the hotel had been sold and developed into two houses which were on the market for sale. The breakfast room was extremely small. The hotel seemed to be a run down and in need of refurbishment.

The beds were really comfortable and clean. The shower was great, quite large and kept its heat. The television had all the channels you could ask for better than some 4 star hotels we have stayed in. There was a hair dryer in our room which is great for a 2star hotel and the room had a great radiator. We stayed in late March so it was nice to crank up the heat in the evening. It was quiet and friendly. We did not have breakfast but from what we saw they looked great. The hotel was central and very close to the bus route so for less mobile people that was good. There are a few local shops near by so that meant we did not have to go into the main towns. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. I was quite happy with most things but it might be petty, but could they upgrade the loo rolls. They were very cheap and you tended to go through quite a lot.

The room we stayed in was better thsn I expected! We were travelling with a 14 month old, so the use of a kitchenette in the family room was brilliant.

My stay at Ansteys was my first stay at an hotel and I was a little apprehensive beforehand, but I needn't have worried. The room was ideal for my requirements, even having a little fridge which was a pleasant surprise! There was also a plentiful supply of tea, coffee etc. The hotel is family run ,and they were all very friendly and most helpful. I would definately recommend the hotel, and it also offers excellent value for money which is important in todays financial climate.

It was value for money and very clean in the rooms looks a little unloved from the outside ,comfy bed, great shower a good size T.V.friendly staff great houskeeping Shame about some younger guests constantly slamming doors at all hours of the night also a hike to Torquay ok walking down into town but if you have mobility problems may need a car or taxi's I did see a bus route just outside on the main road.

Breakfast good value at £5 per person per night. Hotel was not as described on their web site. There is no pool, no evening meals and no bar. It is purely a bed and breakfast. Their website has not been updated for 6 years. It was not what we envisaged.

The owner was very friendly and helpful. We were a group of hens and he was very understanding. Would definately stay here again if i was to revisit Torquay. Approx 10-15min walk to the harbour which is downhill so not so bad. Coming back is best to get a taxi!! There was nothing I did not like about this hotel. Only point i would raise is that the swimming pool is no longer there this isnt stated on the booking.com website.

Good size family 'suite' was actually an apartment so was ideal for family on a budget. Good location - walking distance to town, Ansteys cove and cliff path and Torquay town. Room was rather dark and gloomy. Showers were too hot and there was no temperature control.

Room recently refurbished, new curtains, bedspread and clean bedding, great powerful walk-in shower and new tv. Friendly manager. Location just outside Torquay so quiet, own parking and close to cliff-top walk with beautiful views. Price reduced so excellent value for money as we were out all day and just needed a comfy bed to sleep in - bed was very comfy! The hotel is basic and undergoing refurbishment, so corridors and communal areas not appealing. Not all furniture or tiling in our room looked like it had been replaced in the refurbishment. A few things amiss on arrival like tv remote and bathroom light very dim, but these were replaced the following morning without us even asking. Overall good value for money, as price of room outweighed all of the above.
