We arrived and were booked in quickly by friendly reception staff. My son was given a free kiddy goodie bag and we were told we were given a free complimentary upgrade. We arrived at the room and when we opened the door we were met with a fantastic double double superior room with all mod cons, complimentary toiletries, plus little goodies such as jellybeans as well as three bottles of water chilled in a little fridge!then the nicest surprise was the balcony style ceiling to floor window with an amazing view onto the grassmarket square and Edinburgh castle!the room was the best I've stayed in yet and I've been to numerous hotels etc including big chains such as the raddison.the only disappointments were that we wanted to dine in the roof top restaurant but were told at check in that it was fully booked,we tried to eat at the groud floor restaurant and we stood for 5 or 10 mins and were completely ignored even though there was only 1 table dining and 2 members of staff!we left and found an italian restaurant directly across the road and were glad because the service and food were first class!oh and the next morning we ate our breakfast at the rooftop restaurant at the hotel which was delicious!!there was no idea of choice that hadn't been thought of here!they catered for all tastes and the views of the castle were stunning!!all in all we were delighted with our stay and we will defo be back!!!

Perfect view of the Edinburgh castle. Central location. High standard of rooms - comfortable, large bed, lots of pillows, high ceiling. Room safe. Good storage space. Very friendly and helpful staff. Free Internet access with free printing facility. In practice, to get to the reception level means walking up or down a number of steps, which can be uncomfortable with luggage. (In theory, there is an electric lift for one of the staircases, but I never saw it in operation). From the level above the reception level, there are only 2 lifts for a 5-storey building, very slow and inefficient. Room floors (wooden) creak so much that the noise from guests just walking in the adjacent room was quite disturbing.

Location Hotel was incredibly hot, I complained at reception to be told they were getting air conditioning next week ! I stayed at the same hotel last year - same problem but not as uncomfortable - so they could have thought about guest comfort sooner in my view. They cannot help the weather but it was only 17 or 18 degrees - they said no heating was on but the rooms, corridors & lifts were so uncomfortable it was nauseas. Other guests were complaining to - poor effort for a reasonable quality hotel. No sleep due to this & with windows open it's very noisy (it is on the Grassmarket after all). Not a pleasant stay i'm afraid despite the fact that they have decent facilities !

The room was big for the price we paid. The bed and linens were comfortable. Basic amenities were provided including bathroom items, coffee- making facilities, hair dryer, etc. Wifi is free in the room. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay. Not much I can say except that one of the windows in our room was broken (wouldn't lock) and the safe is also not working. I called the front desk to report the matter and someone was sent up immediately to check them. Since it was late already, the maintenance has already gone so they were not fixed but the staff promised to come back the following day to have them fixed. We only stayed one night so I don't know if there was a follow through.

Fantastic Location! Perfect for walking around the old town (espec for going out at night), few mins walk from city centre and beautiful views of castle outside the door...Widescreen tv. Requested two beds, quiet off-street room, non-smoking...received room at back of hotel, non- smoking and with two double beds which was great. Very friendly reception staff. Excellent food-great thai curry! Went down to look at pool and didnt find it very user friendly-small area allocated to entrance into pool etc. Not worth complaining about though.

The restaurant has amazing views and the smoked haddock risotto was divine! The staff were particularly attentive and made sure I had everything I needed. The tropicarium is a little strange as I expected this to be more like a sauna experience but in fact it was just off cold! There are signs though that tell you that it is a more comfortable than a sauna but I still expected it to be a little hotter. It could be that it wasn't working but I didn't check so I'm not sure and my not checking didn't give anyone the opportunity to fix it if it was so not the hotel's fault.

Nice relaxed surroundings presented to a high standard at a reasonable price. Perfect location for our City Break with easy access to all trhat Edinburgh has to offer. Only dined in the Heights Restaurant for breakfast but this offered good food in an excellent location with 'to die for' views of the Castle. This is my second visit to the City and this Hotel and would definitely return here again - a view firmly supported by the friends we brought on this trip. Have not had any bad experiences other than the main bar running out of a couple drinks.

I found this hotel great for our city center Edinburgh trip, staff were helpful and friendly. We had a great room that was clean and had everything we needed, even down to a rubber duck for my son's bath time. Room service was fast and tasty. Pool/gym we had to our self most if the time, both were well kept. over all i would stay here again and plan too.

The location of the hotel is great, the cooked breakfast was freshly prepared. Plenty of full length mirrors. Staff very nice. no shelves beside the bed or bedside cabinet, pillows too soft - not comfortable. Bathroom was tidy but clean , modern and functional.

On our arrival we were upgraded to a Superior Front room with Breakfast!! No complaints here, the desk staff were extremely polite & helpful, what a great start to our break! The hotels central location is ideal for restaurants, shopping & site seeing. Minutes away from the action. Great view of the Castle too! The very comfortable room with Double Double beds & large Wall Mounted TV provided lots of comfort. Handy too having a fridge & lockable safe! Nice touch with free bottles of water, tea & coffee making facilities. The Noise level outside in the early hours proved a little frustrating, we felt the Double glazing in the room was not good enough to cope with this busy location of the Grassmarket. But to be fair we were aware of this problem!

Well situated, comfortable bar, fabulous view of the castle from the breakfast room friendly staff. Only one working lift with no signposted access to stairs as an alternative during a very busy weekend. This meant long waits going too and from the room. No spaces in the hotel car park.

Hotel was in a lovely location of castle and for the city centre. The one thing we thought that let the hotel down was the quailty of the pillows on the bed they where not comfortable at all and room was very warm.
