The cleanliness and decor of the room and the location close to the main street of Stevenage Old Town. Nice touch to have free fruit juice and biscuits on the first night. Great to have free on site parking as well There was no hairdryer but we would probably have been given one if we had asked - it was late when we got in so we didnt want to disturb the owner by asking.

The room had an elephant theme throughout. The archway and kitchenette facilities. The fact it was a small business rather than a chain. Convenient location and ease of parking. It was quirky but did us for one night. The heating was on very high and the room wasn't ventilated very well. It was clean but didn't smell fresh. Considering they make a big point of saying it's non-smoking throughout it was strange the bathroom smelled of stale smoke. They had very noisy neighbours having a party the night we stayed but there's nothing the owners could do about that.

A very simple but great hotel. When I arrived I was greeted by a very nice chap who simply told me where things where, took my payment and showed me to the room. This is all that was needed. There is no restaurant providing meals of any sort but this suited me perfectly. Instead your room is provided with a Fridge, Microwave, Kitchen sink and plates etc. As a female travelling alone the last thing you really want to do is venture out to sit in a restaurant on your own. I took an m&s microwave meal for 1 cooked it and ate in my room whilst watching a bit of telly. There is a sainsbury's just down the road so you could easily grab something from there rather that carry something with you. This also means that no breakfast is provided but again I just took a pain au chocolate and heated it in the microwave. Not everyones idea if great but suited my needs perfect on this occasion. Don't worry about food smells in the room either. There were no unpleasent smells from the previous guest As the microwave is in a cupboard it seems to stiffle the smells. This hotel would be great for people who do want to venture out as you are very near to Stevenage old town and as there is no breaky you don't have to get up too early to get it. Settle for a brunch after you have left instead. Most of us only eat the breakfast because it comes as part of the deal rather than because we actually want it - especially mid week. Check out is easy too. As you can't charge anything to the room you just post your key on the way out. If I do need to go back to Stevenage I would stay here again. Not really a complaint, more an observation. This hotel is a converted old house. Therefore, you can hear people walking around the corridors whilst in your room. But lets face it there are not many hotels where you don't get this. I could also hear the shower from the room above. Most people settled in their rooms at a decent time so I was not woken during the night.

Very good hotel. Owner very nice and accommodating if you have any special requests. If I ever need to stay in this area again I will without a doubt come back to Archways. For previous reviewers saying that having no breakfast was a problem, you have a 'Mini' kitchen in your room so the hotel not supplying breakfast isn't a problem, I actualy liked the freedom of being able to eat when I wanted! The snack pack provided on your first night with tea coffee crisps juice and cookies was also a lifesaver as I got to the hotel when all shops where closed!

Immaculately clean. Plain but witty decor. Good bed. Everything you could need for an overnight stay. Could buy new towels - clean but a bit thin.

Very efficient check-in and registration process. Friendly and helpful staff. 24 hour ASDA and Tesco supermarkets within a 5-minute drive. Fridge, kettle and microwave in the room. Really good atmosphere and value for money. A bit noisy due to location on a busy road. Only a small sign usually hidden by parking cars, so you need to guess where the hotel is (Tom Tom doesn't show numbers for this street). No lift, which might be a problem in some cases.

I like to have a little kitchen area where I can put my meal into the microwave and take my wine from the fridge and sit back and enjoy watching the nice little tv! There was nothing I disliked about the hotel. I have stayed there twice and have booked another room this week!

As a contractor I found the small kitchen facility a welcome addition in the room. I have now arranged to stay long term in their lodging house which caters for long term stays. Good value and exceptionally clean.

The room was spacious and well furnished, the en-suite was a good size and both were very clean. The staff were helpful and the location was very convenient for Stevenage and the surrounding villages. The whole hotel was nicely presented creating a relaxing atmosphere. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. There was no breakfast included, which I found strange. We had no trouble finding somewhere local to eat, and I believe cereal (and potentially other things) was available for an extra charge, but neither are the same as having a buffet/cooked breakfast in a dining room.

Nice clean, friendly hotel with convenient location. After working into the early hours of the night, I was abruptly woken at 9am by washing machines in the adjacent room going into spin cycle... The whole room started shaking...
