Edinburgh has superb architecture, medieval streets, pleasant gardens, great museums, wide open spaces and Georgian terrace houses; as you walk the streets there is a great sense of history. Dominating the skyline is Edinburgh Castle sitting on its crag above the city. The Royal Mile runs east from the castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Arthur's Seat, the core of an extinct volcano rises 251m above sea level. From the top there are superb views of the Firth of Forth. The easiest walk up to the summit is from the car park beside Dunsapie Loch. Since the late 1940s Edinburgh has played host to the International Festival and the Festival fringe. This has grown over the years and now includes the Military Tattoo, the Film Festival, the Book Festival, the Jazz and Blues festival and the Mela. Combined these events are known as 'the Festival' covering a huge range of performance styles and venues and are probably the largest and most prestigious arts festivals in the world. Come and visit us in this vibrant exciting city - you will not be disappointed!
