Great location! Very close to Castle and town was a few minutes walk away.
Room we had needed some TLC. Otherwise the breakfast was excellent and staff very helpful.
lovely location. ideal for touring. plenty of local restaurants. very good breakfast.
A bit run down could do with a refurbishment.
Location was breathtaking, and staff were first class.
The double bed and the floor was on a slope, kept rolling off the bed did not have a good sleep, but i did see the funny side of it,would still go back to the hotel, but would like a level floor and bed next time.
Good breakfasts. Comfy, intimate lounge bar.
First impression as you approach on the A82 and turn right through the first archway to park is of a very rundown property - the exterior paintwork is peeling away badly on the public bar side, so not a good intro after a long journey. Best to park through the second archway. Inside, the stairs are on a spiral, so difficult to haul luggage up to the top floor room where we stayed. Fortunately another guest gave us a hand.
Excellent restuarant service, very good evening meal and breakfast. Location and views in this picturesque highland village are stunning.
Poor reception service, did not pass on our dining room booking. Rooms rather old and tired, bedhead was hanging off the wall.
The views The breakfast The staff
Bedroom small and a bit tired decor wise
Location was perfect, walking distance to everything, oldish building, lots of character, clean, well cared for, rooms with a view to the loch.
No elevator, which is to be expected in a building of this age and character.
The Argyll is beautifully placed for a stay in Inveraray. Views of the loch from your window; step outside and you're moments from everything you'd want to see in thid pleasant little town, including the amazing Inveraray Castle.
Room size was an issue. As with many older hotels there wasn't a lot of room.
Location and price
A little tired and some staff not strong communicators
Breakfast was excellent and breakfast staff were cheerful and friendly.
Room was terrible, not decorated for a very long time, bathroom not clean (old and botched with lots of mastic), windows let in cold and damp which kept me awake.
We had booked rooms with view over the loch and though they up graded us we had no view at the back of the hotel. Very average all round, in need of an overall refurbishment
All meals were great value for money and the local mussels the best I have ever had.
Location/ v.good breakfast/ room was good for 3 men people sharing.
service was great, food was good
hotel as a whole was tired
The location and the breakfast. Inverary has an air of gentile decline with the few shops on Main Street devoted to the tourist and the goods quite expensive.
The cottage room which only has a loch view from the en-suite.
Setting was great. Meals excellent. Very clean. Close to town and shopping. Close to castle. Great parking.
Wafer thin pillows and sagging rock hard mattresses. Very clean though. Excellent water pressure too.
The view from the room was spectacular, with such an amazing location it was a pity that the hotel has been allowed to fall into such a state of disrepair
The first impression is not good of the hotel, it is in serious need of some TLC, the first hiccup was the key we were given for the room wasn't for our room! and it took an age for the staff to find a replacement. The corridors had peeling paint and wallpaper and were generally shabby. The room was ok but the single glazed windows were very noisy at the front with many forestry vehicles operating right past the window from 5am, they were also very noisy. Breakfast was adequate if a little dried out. Overall I felt a tad disappointed.
We were booked in for an overnight stay.the staff are great, can't do enough for you.we had an evening meal, which was very nice and the breakfast was lovely.
We were booked in for 14:00 but was told the room would not be ready until 15:30.luckily the weather was nice otherwise we'd be sat in the hotel for an hour and a half.
Nice size room and excellent breakfast in the morning
The hotel is a bit old school, could do with a make over
The location in Inverary was convenient to the town center, with attractive view of the water. The breakfast choices were varied and tasty, and the wait staff friendly and efficient. Our guest room had a bathroom that had been renovated recently so that was a nice, clean feature.
Indicative of our experience started with the front door, which had been painted at some point, but nobody bothered to tidy the edges of the glass panes, so they were covered with sloppy paint. When we checked in, we were asked if we wanted to dine in the restaurant, but then immediately told (before we even had a chance to answer) that there were no reservations available and that we should have booked that in advance. This snooty attitude has no place in a hotel that poses as luxury accommodations (I've both stayed at and worked at 5 Diamond Hotels, so I have experience with effective customer service, and this wasn't it). As soon as we started up the maze of stairs and halls, it was apparent that a renovation is in serious order. The carpet was threadbare, the walls dinged and chipped, and once we got to our room, things didn't get much better. The decorating is heavy and dated, and the small window provided no helpful ventilation on a warm, humid night. There were no fans, let alone air conditioning, so it was an uncomfortable evening. We were awoken at 2 am by a group of intoxicated youths shouting at each other from the street below our window for about 15 minutes (that wasn't the hotel's responsibility, but still, it happened). I am sure that this was a very special place at one time, but until it gets renovated and registration staff gets training, I could not recommend The Argyll Hotel.
Great location with a magnificent view. Very quiet, great bed and good night's sleep, essential when travelling. Good breakfast. Excellent value for money. Would return.
Nothing I can think of
very good for the castle and the jail
Staff were pleasant and helpful, the hotel is charming and the town itself is lovely.
When I asked staff if they could allow me to print our boarding passes, they regretfully told me that it is against company policy to print guests' boarding passes. In my experience most hotels provide this service these days. This caused us considerable inconvenience and irritation.
