Stranraer is a ferry port with good bus links to Dumfries.
Stranraer is a ferry port with good bus links to Dumfries. The tow, itself had a "sedate ' feel to it. Traffic was slow and polite. Lots of fish and chips shops. The central castle / tower house is the only place of interest and museum. Famous centre for curling with rink open in winter months.

Absolutely highly recommend this beautiful stylish hotel,...
Absolutely highly recommend this beautiful stylish hotel, very clean, great food with a warm welcome
Excellent location on the sea front and lots of parking spaces. Beautiful reception area and staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was very spacious with a small table and two chairs, large comfy bed and good facilities. Evening meal was lovely, very tasty and well presented with good choices; as was breakfast the next morning, absolutely perfect. The dining room is beautiful and set out nicely. The bars were both superb to have a drink and relax. Absolutely highly recommend this charming hotel, simply one of the best we have stayed in! We will definitely return!

Stranraer is wet and windy and very rundown.
Stranraer is wet and windy and very rundown. There is not a restaurant open past 9 o’clock. Very few takeaways and a Tesco’s and a Morrisons. There is nothing to do past 1730. Once the shops are closed our hotel we arrived at 2045 And the restaurant had already closed, there was no room service we had to go out in the pouring rain and wind to get a takeaway as they would not allow takeaway delivered to the hotel or to be eaten in hotel bar area which only one was open. We had to eat it in a room and it was cold by the time you got back so complete waste of money. This hotel is rundown and has been the same for the last 20 years. Last time we visited it. Stranraer was bustling, then as the port was in town. But no, there is only cairn Ryan you can leave from and it is 6 miles out of the village. All it’s good for is getting the ferry to Belfast.

Firstly, ships no longer berth in Stranraer as your photo depicts.Nothing wrong with Stranraer or the people who are very friendly, but industry and employment is desperately needed together with an improvement of the road network, in particular the 100 mile long A75. All thanks to the Scottish government who are spending the money on the capital City.

We were quite sad at how downtrodden Stranraer looked since we were there in 2019. It seems very little shops survived the pandemic and there is now very little to do. The buildings could do with a clean or a repaint. This once bustling town is a bit sorry for itself.

Stranraer itself has become very shabby and rundown.
Stranraer itself has become very shabby and rundown. However there are wonderful attractions all around it. Logan Botanic Garden was brilliant with a decent cafe. Portpatrick is a beautiful small village with lots of cliff walks while Sandhead has a fabulous beach. Castle Kennedy Gardens and Glenwhan Gardens are also nearby while Wigtown Book Town isn't too far away.
The owner was absolutely lovely and accommodated our early check-in as we had just driven two hours with two small children. There was a Park with a Cafe just across the street from the hotel, which was perfect when you have little ones that want to stretch their legs or go for a walk by the seaside. Very walkable to local restaurants or the grocery store. We would definitely stay here again or recommend it to anyone visiting the area. It was about a 15 minute drive to the ports as we were taking a ferry the next day so it was very convenient.
Large room with good facilities and a beautiful view. Chairs and table by the window to look out from. Our room was cleaned and replenished during the day.
Our host was very accommodating and happy to make an early breakfast which was very tasty.
We visited the area to go to the Wee Aird Dairy Farm which was amazing.
There are some other wonderful places to visit near Stranraer - Logan Botanical Garden, Mull of Galloway and Castle Kennedy Gardens. We had glorious weather too!
The location is perfect, quiet with stunning views. Ideal for either popping into Stranraer for something to eat/drink, or local shops, also ideally located if your planning to catch the ferry to Ireland, and what a stop over first.
The rooms are well laid out, with plenty of thought given to presentation, also having plenty of storage space, and the breakfast is fantastic with plenty of choices depending on what you want
Got what we needed for 1 night stay over, room great size and clean, only negative I booked room as it had food advertised so thought handy for elderly parent rather than going looking for dinner elsewhere, unfortunately we picked night that kitchen was closed but girl who showed us to room was lovely and recommended a place not far that we could drive and park near, all good would recommend and book again when next in area
The location was excellent for our early Ferry trip to Belfast.
The rooms were very nice, clean with excellent bath and shower facilities.
Parking was easy on the street nearby and the instructions for entering and obtaining the room keys worked well.
Overall, a very pleasant place and the price was excellent.
Luxurious rooms and a hearty home-cooked breakfast. Beautiful décor and comfy beds. Decanter of whiskey in you room! Views overlooking the bay and the park. Stranraer is a lovely town, with high street, good restaurants, free museum, and free castle to explore. Parking is free and abundant.
Lovely quiet location but near enough to walk to town. The layout and design of cottage ,comfortable and user friendly. Good mattress. Well equipped kitchen . Very clean and well maintained. Excellent value for money. Off road parking.
Lovely clean apartment with great views over the harbour. Free parking close by is a plus too. Everything is provided for the stay including a nice big smart tv, we’d surely come back here if returning to this part of Scotland
Excellent breakfast. Lovely owners. Great room.
Only tiny negative comment is that we were met on arrival by our lively host in 'near darkness' in the old bar so the atmosphere didn't feel very cheery after a long drive.
Wilma was really welcoming and helped with parking right by the door. My room was at the back of the building, quiet and private. The hotel location was easy to find and close to main routes for ferry.
This is a very friendly hotel with excellent rooms and facilities. Great choice for breakfast and good value for money. Our room had a view over the sea. would definitely stay again.
SELF CATERED. QUIET LOCATION. CLEAN, HAD EVERYTHING IN THE KITCHEN. ITS VERY RURAL SO IDEAL FOR WALKING, NEAREST TOWN IS PORTPATRICK. IDEAL FOR SOMEBODY HIDING AWAY READING A BOOK.
Location was excellent, facing the park and sea, owner (Emma) lives nearby, internet 30MB and reliable, good kitchen equipment, Tesco 5 min walk, town centre 2 min walk, beds good.
The lovely welcome from Sandy. He made us very welcome. We went to the cenotaph to pay our respects and the pipes and drums where lovely. Stranraer is a lovely place.
Nice big room, very clean. Owners were polite, friendly and helpful. Lots of parking, pubs and restaurants nearby. Would certainly stay again if we are in the area.
Well located for very nearby town centre. Just around the corner.
Room very comfortable. Lovely breakfast.
Overall decor excellent.
