The room (a single) was tiny and the shower room very cramped. The shower was a warm dribble at best. Noisy drinkers in the bar kept me awake until 2 a.m. all three nights I stayed there.
The location was quite good but the roads were narrow and twisty. The beer and food were good and reasonably priced. The staff were courtious and friendly.
Landlord and all staff were friendly and accomodating. Breakfast was more than adequate. Evening meals in pub were good sized and tasty. Location was quiet and restful.
Really relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff and so handy for the rail link.
For the money it's spot on and the food is fine
Shower had very little umpf!
A great full English breakfast and good value food served in the evenings. 1 minute walk to the train station, we took the train to whitby, for a walk on the beach and fish & chips. Loads of local walks to get your appetite going!
Thin walls. The loud voiced younger couple in the next room were quite frustrating. tea/coffee facilities weren't restocked with a 2night stay. Be careful when arriving midweek. If you arrive between 4 (check in from time) and 5 (pub opens from ) you have to call. Very difficult when on o2 and have no signal.
Great location. Food was fantastic. Comfortable rooms. Very cheerful staff. Definitely will return as great value for money
No bad experiences
Good food and very affordable
My wife wasn't very well
It was all very good the food was excellent
Shower lacked water pressure.
Friendly staff. Good bar food menu. Room pleasant and comfortable
Not all freeview channels available but didn't spoil our stay
Staff very friendly. Vegetarian breakfast was very nice. Room was clean and comfortable. Would stay again if we are visiting Whitby.
Internet connection in the room was poor although good connection downstairs in the pub and/or restaurant.
Good location, excellent breakfast and food in the pub in the evening was very good and value for money.
Very average breakfast, overpriced.Local shop a long way from accommodation, not particularly friendly staff. If on C to C then continue on to Grosmont
nice and lovely place to stay with lovely, views over the dales food was good value for money
Shower a bit iffy.
Great food drink good staff warm home from home will go back all being well.
The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome, the location was great, short drive to the moors, dales and sea. Lovely local walking. Food was excellent...specially Sunday roast.
What a great place to stay as we approached the end of our walk on the Coast to Coast Trail! Good room, good place to start from on the last day of walking. At dinner, friends showed up -- even those staying elsewhere, because this is the best place to eat in town.
Great pub with lovely atmosphere after walking along C2C trail. Met with other walkers and as usual the conversation was around the walk. Lovely staff with food sense of humour and the food was just what was needed after a day walking. Would recommend to anyone wanting a nice cosy, friendly stop.
There were no causes for complaint. It would be churlish to be critical. (If there was one regret, it would be that we hadn't booked for a longer stay.)
The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and our bedroom was comfortable with a splendid view. We had excellent meat-free breakfasts with vegetarian sausages, just as requested, and these were served in a pleasant room designed for the purpose. The restauarant merges into the bar, where, of an evening, locals and visitors/walkers were engaged in happy conversation, and this made for relaxing and cheerful meals. There was a good choice on the menu and dinners were tasty, well-cooked and came in good-sized portions. The area surrounding the Arncliffe Arms, through which passes the coast-to-coast path, is superb for a walking holiday. Altogether, it was a wonderful break and we hope to return before long.
the whole experience,views ,room,location.
the welcome the breakfast the comfortable bed the parking the location
We did not have any towels provided and we were not warned of this before turning up. There was a party happening until 2am which we were only told about when we arrived. There was clear signs of damp in the room, for example the ceiling was stained and the carpets felt damp under foot. When we returned from our wedding party one of the single beds had a soaking wet duvet. The explanation given in the morning was that maybe the ceiling had leaked when it rained... The toilet flushing system was not very plesant either, it was a 'saniflo' system and was awfully noisy and seemed blocked at times, we were constantly worried that it was going to break (we understand it is an old building but there must be better solutions?).
The food and service was enjoyable, they were all friendly. The pub itself looked very nice and cosy and the bedroom looked nice.
Country Pub The Breakfast! Location Friendly Staff Excellent value
The location suited a particular celebration in the locality that we were attending.
Real ales not up to scratch. Room for myself and my son a little on the small size but adequate. An annual horse show caused chaos in the restaurant one evening; it could have been much better handled with forward planning based on previous years' experiences.
The en suite room was clean and comfortable with tea/coffee-making facilities. The staff were delightful and welcoming. Excellent food in the restaurant with two real ales available. An excellent situation to start countless walks and plenty of other attractions easily available locally. Four trains a day each way and local bus services make the car somewhat redundant!
