Initially we were in a room that had a building site right outside, the noise from this woke us up early in the morning, also would have prevented any daytime naps or afternoon rest in the room. I think if you had to get up for work or a meeting the next day it wouldn't be a problem as you would be up and around before they started, but for a holiday we would have appreciated not being woken up so early, especially as we had had such a long drive up to get there. Could have done with a nice lie in!
Also, the curtains in both rooms didn't quite fit properly and let the morning light in. The first room was awful, the whole side of the curtain hung away meaning it was almost a beam of light shining on our faces in the morning (I did let reception know so hopefully they can rectify this.) The second room was much better, but still let light shine in around the top of the curtain. I was glad I had brought an eye mask to help make it darker.
As a small point, I would have liked a shower gel as part of the complimentary toiletries. Its only a tiny point, but for some reason I thought there would be one so hadn't brought one. Wasn't a problem, we just went out and bought one.
The first room we were in didn't smell very nice either, had a quite unpleasant smell when we walked in. We narrowed it down to the carpet, suspect it had been recently shampooed and still smelt damp and unpleasant. We left the windows open to air the room and it did improve, but wasn't a nice first impression of the room.
Very comfortable beds, really liked them! Mattresses were perfect.
We had a problem with noise in our first room but got moved to another room round the other side which was much quieter. Was very pleased with the lady on reception and the way she dealt with our room swap, she was very friendly and efficient. Minimal fuss and bother, it didn't really impact on our holiday at all.
The bar downstairs was lovely, we really liked it, and it was quite reasonably priced for a hotel bar. Also fantastic range of spirits.
The car parking was excellent, very reasonable price for a city centre (with the hotel discount), nice and close, and secure.
Had a deal on the room on Booking.com which made the price very reasonable for city centre hotel.
The location couldn't be any better, right next to China Town, the art galleries, eateries etc, everything within walking distance including the stations and tram stops.
