Arundel House HotelChesterton Road, CB4 3AN Cambridge (Show map) Good, Score from 529 reviews“Location, location location!! And the staff were excellent, very welcoming and more than helpful. We will be back, and are happy to recommend Arundel to family and friends. It was a pleasure from start to finish!! ”

Overlooking the River Cam, Arundel House Hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the historic center of Cambridge. The Victorian hotel has an atrium restaurant, free Wi-Fi and free on-site parking. The elegant bedrooms each have a private modern bathroom and tea/coffee facilities. All rooms are traditionally decorated, and some are located in the charming former coach house building. The bright and airy restaurant serves a modern European menu, while the Conservatory Brasserie offers light lunches and afternoon teas. Hearty cooked breakfasts are also available daily. Opposite Jesus Green, Arundel House is a 10-minute walk from the famous Cambridge University Colleges. The vibrant Quayside area is a 5-minute walk, and Cambridge Market Square is half a mile away. Coming back to my room after the first night, I find that I have been moved to another room, without any prior notice or warning. My belongings have been summarily packed and moved. This is outrageous and unacceptable behavior. I have never experienced this before in any hotel. The management apologised only under pressure and very grudgingly, offered no reparation. Extremely bad behaviour - do not use this hotel ! By the way, I requested a Complaints Book, but none was offered.

The Arundel has an excellent location with ample free parking (Essential and unusual in central Cambridge) The hotel was spacious and attractively decorated throughout. I stayed in three rooms which were all reasonably spacious and attractive. The restaurant, bar and conservatory were all spacious and attractive leisure areas with good if expensive food. All staff were friendly, efficient and accommodating. Was given another room on 2nd day immediately on complaining of early morning noises in room. A double at rear of building, again spacious and attractive. Stayed a third night and was given a double room at reduced rate. My first room (single) was on the 4th floor, up winding staircases and no lift. I was offered assistance which I refused but would have accepted if I had known the distance involved. I think it should have been given automatically. The room was spacious and attractive. However, I was woken at 6:45 with loud noises from what appeared to be the water system in roof spaces. These continued for over an hour. Was given another room on 2nd day immediately on complaining of these noises in room. Apparently, some staff knew of this problem. I had to ensure that I was given a room at rear as I had discovered that all rooms on levels 1-3 had no double glazing and the hotel is on a very busy ring road so the noise levels in front rooms must be very high. (See other complaints) a cooked breakfast is extra which I think is unacceptable, given the room rates, and the 'continental' breakfast is meagre compared to hotels on mainland Europe. (See other complaints) The extra charge for vegetables is a pernicious British habit which should be discouraged. The bar, restaurant and conservatory had continuous and inane piped music which ruined the ambiance of these areas, especially the conservatory and restaurant. I don't know anyone who likes old pop music at breakfast time. In an hotel of this standard, which is not catering to teenagers, the conservatory and restaurant areas should have been noise free. The descriptions of 'overlooking the river Cam' and 'opposite Jesus Green' are both a little disingenuous. The river is on the other side of the main road with trees along the bank and Jesus Green is beyond that, so neither is 'overlooked' in the true meaning of the word. The picture on the website suggests that the hotel has a sweeping panorama to the Cam on its own grounds, which was the reason for my choice of this hotel.

Fantastic location, friendly staff, good comfort, Wifi availability in bedrooms and public spaces. Not much light getting into bedrooms in the annex. Canned 50's music in public spaces all the time.

I was upgraded to a twin room at the staff's suggestion. This was done in case I fond the single room rather noisy. I thought this was a spontaneous gesture of goodwill.

Cleanliness - Well kept rooms including common parts I.e furniture and decorations. Handicapped persons would find the absence of a lift from the carpark to reception and then to the upper floors a drawback. Not too bad for a sprightly 90 year old but someething to be borne in mind for the future

Quiet - apart from middle of the night time talkers at tables outside. Staff - most of them - friendly. Lovely location with easy walk across Jesus common to town. Dreadful piped music at breakfast - we were told guests like it, but I'm sure they have not been asked. The staff at breakfast were overwhelmed and guests had to wait tome time to be seated. The breakfast was dull with poor mass-produced bread.

Comfortable hotel that we stay at on a fairly regular basis. Very convenient for visiting relatives who live locally and excellent for shopping/walking/dining out. The hotel staff are always friendly and make you feel very welcome. The restaurant/conservatory is comfortable with a lovely atmosphere and an extensive menu choice, always good quality food.

The Victorian features, the proximity to the old part of Cambridge, the view from my window. The staff could not ahve been more helpful and lovely. I would prefer to have my sheets changed every day though I know it wastes water to wash them. I would prefer to have a lift for heavy bags though will always use stairs when I do not have bags. I am not sure why the wine list was so hopeless. It is easy to store wine these days especially if they are screw top bottles. Every hotel should have New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Italian Pinot Grigio as standard. In the next while the hotel should e refurbished and given double glazing. It would then be absolutely beyond perfect.

I have stayed at the Arundel House Hotel for a number of years. The location is excellent, a short walk to the center of Cambridge and the Hotel overlooks Jesus Green. The staff have always been helpful and friendly. Only have lunch in the hotel, eat out in Cambridge at night. Car parking is very good, at the rear of the hotel building. Rooms are of a good standard. I have no complaints.

I love the location, accommodation and facilities. The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful during breakfast. At £95 per room, it was good value for money. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean all the facilities were. I asked for at least 1 ground floor room, didnt get it. Also not sure why we were all accommodated in the coach house, when the hotel was not full? The reception staff was not as friendly as they could be. I greeted them with a big, cheerful hello, but didnt get a warm welcome response from either receptionists at check in or checkout - no smiles :( I ordered hot chocolate and a cake in the conversatory around 1250hrs 29/01 and got the hot choc at 1320hrs n no cake.

Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. I was treated as an individual, and felt looked after. Room and staircase looked a bit tired/battered in decor. Bed was very narrow and blanket stained. Heating was overwhelming, so had to open the window - in January!

Excellent location. Friendly, efficient staff. Comfortable. A bit chintzy and in need of an update. 'State of the art' security made it very difficult to get into room without considerable sleight of hand.

Bigger than I expected with really good public areas and lots of parking. Staff were very nice and welcoming. I wanted somewhere in walking distance of the city centre and it is perfect for that, plus views over the river and park. Rooms are fine, not luxurious, but wasn't expecting that for the price.

Comfortable large bedrooms. En-suite with proper bath. Excellent parking. good location for river and short walk to colleges. Quiet. Could sensibly turn down the heat a little! - both to save money and make the bedrooms even more comfortable.
