Despite being a beutifuly furnished country house hotel my large hairy retriever was made welcome and allowed everywhere except the dining room. One of Britain foremost country sport hotels. 5star+++

Bad mobile reception,but that's not their fault!

Very comfortable room, good food in restaurant. Nice staff. We got a good deal on Booking.com otherwise it would have been expensive.

I would not go there for a holiday unless I was interested in fishing or walking.

Rooms were comfortable and clean, staff were attentive and friendly

the room i was in was above the bar area and at the entrance of the stairs so was a bit noisy late at night and early mornings. if i stay here again i would request a room further along the corridor.

The hotel bar prices, £7.50 for a pint and a half, come on!!! I would not have paid full price for the room, poor breakfast buffet, waitress has poor memory

staff have got the service just right, not too friendly but normal people. bedrooms and sitting rooms very cosy and relaxing, nice log fires and cumfy sofas.

Comfortable with great food

Reception staff were excellent and very helpful. Beds very comfortable and room was a nice size. Dinner and breakfast were superb. Warm, relaxing guest lounge with open fire.

Decor is tired and needs cosmetic upgrade.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had to leave early on four mornings of my stay and had an excellent continental breakfast delivered to my room. It's a peaceful hotel to stay in I stayed at the hotel last year and went back the year because of the excellent service etc Would definitely stay there again

Very clean, comfortable and friendly. Excellent choice of food from three separate venues - the restaurant, the bar and the pub. Lovely lounge. Easy to find just off the A30 near Launceston. Good location for visiting east Cornwall/Devon/Dartmoor. Excellent if you're into fishing and country sports (we're not). Popular with dog owners but don't worry if, like us, you're not because the dogs were all exceptionally well-behaved. We will definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

Had to wait for someone to serve in the bar one evening - but hardly a deal-breaker!

The atmosphere and the wonderful food

Very professional and cheerful staff. Good food at good value.

The staff were all friendly and welcoming, we had an excellent evening meal in the restaurant. Unusually our labrador was welcome too. On returning home I found that they had sent on by first class mail my hopital appointment card that I had inadvertently left behind and had not missed, excellent service. We have called in for lunch on many occoasions but this was our first stay hopefull not our last.

Good halfway stop to cornwall

Couldn't open the bedroomk windows and found it very stuffy

Shower needed upgrading. Apart from that I was pleased with he hotel

Friendly staff nice surroundings and dining room had wow factor. Evening meal tried to be gourmet but didnt quite do it for us and at £42 per head should have. But overall a nice experience with the feel of a happy well run establishment coming through would reccomend to friends

Grouting in room bathroom was dirty ugh and a bit dissapointed with evening meal at the price

Tried to pay with American Express, informed that they don't take it! Room was booked using Amex!

Excellent food, staff and comfortable beds.

The professional and friendly assistance of all staff. The Chef is outstanding The Hotel is accessible to many beauty spots and towns in Devon and Cornwall whilst being essentially a rural location.

Two features of Room 23: To get hot water the taps had to be run for an inordinately long time. This must be a significant waste of energy. A local water heater to rooms in this block seems to be needed. The bathroom needs more shelf space for the use of two adults and the shower is possibly dangerous for elderly folk such as me who need firm hand holds at shoulder height
