Ascot House  

Ascot house is very good value and maintains excellent standards ,is only a short walk from the city, recommended.

xcllnt tasty breakfast. comfy room and bathroom. helpful with tourist maps. 15mins walk to minster. eat at nearby walnut tree.

Lovely old building filled with antiques. Parking in the car park at the rear. Lovely breakfast. Comfy beds. Nice sitting room with reasonably priced bar on site.

Stayed in family room which had super king sized four poster bed and 2 singles. The main bed however was far too big for the room with little to get either side, we were under each others feet a lot. Also kettle was too big to fit under the tap to fill it!

Lovely hotel with excellent lounge

Winter quilt on the bed made the first night rather hot. However, staff changed it the next day.

Ascot House was lovely. Very clean and warm. Delicious breakfasts and very helpful staff. Easy walk into York city centre and loads of country drives to explore Yorkshire.

Location was good only minutes from york centre. The first room we had, room 11 was very good. Book a superior room if you stay here! Good waitress service.

Unfortunately I made a mistake in booking and had booked a day early which meant we had to pay for a night that we didnt stay, which is fair enough. However as we still wanted to stay for 3 nights we had to spend our last night in another room. This was only £10 cheaper than the superior room but was small, noisy, out dated, had a dangerous kettle lead and would not recommend anybody booking into that room or the room next to the reception and front entrance, room 1. although the breakfast had good reviews it was nothing special but the waitresses were lovely. There was lack of ventilation in both rooms and very warm during the night. The difference between the two rooms is like being in two different bed and breakfasts so take care when booking to ask where your room will be!

staff were really friendly from the moment we entered the hotel to the moment we left including allowing us to have a choice of rooms, get our keys early and allowing us to park our car till later on day of departure. Great breakfast and thanks for an enjoyable stay

Liked everything - lived up to expectations and just 15 mins walk to the City. Lovely spacious room with easy 'come and go as you like' policy. Big en suite with large shower - Next time we visit we will book a room with a bath as our bones would have appreciated a good soak at the end of a busy day exploring York.

The building is beautiful with traditional decor and large stained glass window at the main stair case. The staff were really friendly and could not have been more helpful, providing everything from an annotated map to the city centre - without me asking for it, to menus for local restaurants. The breakfast in the morning was cooked to order in a cosey and friendly dining room and did not disappoint. The food was delicious and I was particularly impressed that they had a vegetarian hot breakfast option on the menu that wasn't just egg on toast! We had a 4 poster bed too, which was a nice surprise!

Ascot House is a beautiful, tastefully appointed traditional building. A family run business-the service was excellent & very friendly. Our attic room was clean & comfortable. The breakfast was excellent quality & cooked to perfection. The best I have had in a hotel! The walk into York took between 15-20 minutes & in the evening was an easy short taxi ride-efficiently organised by the hotel. York is a lovely city to visit & I happily recommend this hotel.

Everything was perfect for us & the steeper stairs to the attic posed no difficulties but if you have mobility problems I'd suggest you ask for a room on the first floor.
