The hotel, an ex monastery, is indeed in a beautiful location. The park is very nice, although the constant noise of the water fountains there to oxygenate the water for the fish, disrupts the idyllic setting quite a bit. Rooms are quite dowdy, especially the carpets. The bathroom is quite dowdy too and there is only a seperate tap for cold and hot water and wehad no cold water coming out of the shower at all. You have to be fit and healthy to walk very long distances to your room and the corridors are airless and smell of humidity and have not been redecorated for a very long time. The restaurant was chaotic and we had to ask twice for our drinks to arrive and our food got there before. A staff of a hundred attended our table and we got the impression that nobody knew what they were doing, possibly agency staff. But the worst thing was still to come: we ordered cheese after dinner and were brought a little silver tray containing biscuits to go with the cheese. After approx. 1 minute a waiter appeared and removed the tray from our table as he needed it for other clients as they only have 1 tray for the whole restaurant! Not enough seating space for all the dining guests in the bar and guests were outsourced to the other rooms waiting forever and a day for their drinks to arrive. The barman did not know what a Fernet Branca is and at the end the hotel overcharged us for the 2nd night, which we are still trying to sort out.

Great staff Could not turn off main lights in room while keeping bedside lights on. All or nothing. An electrician should be able to fix this.

The staff were great, very friendly and welcoming one of the hotels greatest assets the grounds were also fanatstic The window in the room rattled terribly on the first night which meant we did not sleep well as it was a windy night. The changing rooms at the country club were not clean

the afternoon teas are very good, had ours over looking the lake, it was very relaxing. the amount of people being shown round the hotel with a view to booking their weddings. Felt it was quite intrusive and a bit gold fish bowlish

The appearance of the hotel and the grounds, as well as being in nice countryside I didn't think the staff service was up to 4*. The reception check in was a bit amateur; slows to be served a drink in bar before dinner (in fact a later arrival got served first); when they bought the sole to carve offt the bone at the hotel they had to ask which one of us it was for - in the best restaurants they would have known who'd ordered it without asking. Gym slightly disappointing.

A fantastic setting with panoramic views of Ashdown Forest, the service is first class, worthy of a five star hotel. The spa facilities are excellent, but do book early. A relaxed atmosphere the makes you want to visit again we certainly will.

Perfect position for the forest, good spa facilities, restaurant food was excellent Not so much of a complaint as all tastes are different, but we found the hotel miles to quite for us, you felt your self crepping about. However over at the spa was a bit more relaxing and did at least have music. A long walk to the bedroom, thats our fault though, we should have stipulated a closer room, as we went midweek, we probably wouldnt have had a problem getting a better position room

Excellent Dining Experience. Lovely outdoor terrace to room where deer were grazing outside. Converted Priory so lots of history attached to function rooms, communal areas and bedrooms. Beautifully kept grounds, very attentive and accommodating staff. No major gripes - some rooms are a long way from the reception and dining areas and the nature of the history of the hotel (former convent) means there are no lifts so people with disabilities may have to request specific ground floor rooms.

The quality of the food was of a very high standard and the lounge/dining areas were well set out and tastefully decorated. The staff were very friendly, approachable and tried hard to be accommodating and correct problems swiftly. The quality of service was not consistent - sometimes it was superb and sometimes it was poor. Lack of air conditioning made the bedrooms and dining areas hot and uncomfortable.

We really enjoyed our stay. The fine dining restaurant was superb. Afternoon tea was wonderful. Spa facilities were great too. All staff we dealt with were extremely professional and friendly. Stunning setting and so we made use of the jogging trail maps provided. Location great. Close to the M25/23 yet feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. We had by far the smallest and most basic ensuite bathroom I've ever seen in any of the many 4* hotels I've stayed in! There was certainly nothing "deluxe" about our room and I must say I resent it being referred to as "deluxe". Simply "double room" would've done. Also the dressing table light was barely a warm glow.... I appreciate little natural light is part of the charm of an "old" building but I could barely see my face in the mirror due to the insufficient lighting/wattage of the bulb.

Not too far from home, nice room, elite facility, quality staff, quiet surroundings with a possibility of seeing wildlife (especially deer) every day. Well presented dining facilities and good food, will visit again Minor items Perhaps the menu choices should be increased

General atmosphere was very good. Staff were excellent. The food in the restaurant was very good - evening dinner. The location was very nice. The spa area was very poor and needs to be redecorated and cleaned. Changing area was also very poor. If they don't upgrade they should consider removing this factility as it lets the hotel down. Buffet breakfast was okay but not really up to the standard of the rest of the food we had.

“Restaurant was excellent both in style and menu. Main courses for the two evening meals were delicious - the venison cut like butter and the taste was superb. We all enjoyed the jak posters throughout the hotel and the dining rooms had character. Reception and ?manager (Chris) went out of their way to make our stay run smoothly and we all enjoyed the weekend. ” Diana, Walton On Thames |
