A lovely warm welcome. We felt as if nothing was too much trouble. One if the nicest places we've stayed. And only a 10 minute walk to York. Ideal
Short walk into York, breakfast was excellent, hosts friendly and their home made biscuits were delicious.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. rooms clean and tidy. Nice breakfast choice.
Phil was very welcoming and the property is clean and comfortable. A good cooked breakfast, although more choice of fruit to start with would be nice. It's an easy walk into the city from Ashley Guest House, and there are places to eat locally if you don't want to venture far in the evening.
Basement room No. 6 has very limited natural light, but it is roomy with a big bathroom. No private parking, but you are given a street parking permit which was fine.
It was very comfortable and allowed you space without being intruded upon.
It could provide facilities for evening meals.
Made our visit a pleasure will definitely be visiting again and the breakfast was a delight
I loved the friendly welcome . The breakfast was wonderful, a good choice one morning fresh salmon scrambled eggs. The bathroom was so clean I'm very fussy. Very helpful when we needed information about York .
There was nothing that we didn't like.
We particularly liked the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast is in a class of its own - superbly cooked and delicious! Phil and his team are excellent. We loved the selection of books and the cleverly selected furniture. We have already recommended this b&b to our friends. Elaine (Stellenbosch)
A minor quibble only - the reading light could have been better.
Great location - 10ish min walk into the town centre and a few mins walk to some lovely little restaurants, deli's and even a little Sainsbury's if you forget your toothbrush. Phil is a lovely chap, a little hyper but it adds to his charm! We liked the breakfast room - lots of cute details, including breakfast written up on a framed chalkboard.
Room was pretty small, but then we weren't there to spend time in there other than sleeping! The glass shelves in the bathroom were a little wobbly, so we made sure we didn't put any pressure on them. Hardly worth mentioning - meant to tell Phil to see if he could secure them more, but we forgot!
Loved York and the Guest House.
Both myself and my partner were absolutely astounded by the Ashley Guesthouse. The accommodation was spotless, with a friendly welcome, great wi-fi and very comfortable. We were made to feel at home straight away by Phil who also gave us plenty of information about York centre. The breakfast was super and homemade biscuits were on offer daily. I'd recommend this quest house to anyone and everyone, we'll be staying again.
Kindness of all the staff. Nicely decorated.
The guesthouse is beautiful, decorated with taste and sensibility for the character and period, the detail is amazing, right down to the calligraphy on the labels. Phil and his young lady assistant are helpful and put guests at their ease, nothing is too much trouble for them and the breakfasts each day were awesome, cooked to perfection, the best I have ever had at a guesthouse and the size of what was on offer would shame many a 4 star hotel. The value for money is incredible. The guesthouse is about a 10 minute walk from the city centre which was good for working off said breakfast! The area around the guesthouse is also lovely with interesting shops and great eateries. I have already recommended this lovely establishment to friends and hubbie and I hope to visit again in the future.
Nothing to report at all!
Friendly welcome, clean comfortable room and excellent breakfast that sets you up for the day. Phil makes excellent chocolate chip cookies!
Phil was very welcoming and easy going (it was no trouble for me to overstay by an hour on the last morning, for instance). The decor is a tasteful cream and gold, pretty country theme, without being overdone. The bed was super comfy. Breakfasts were delicious.
The guest house is not in the centre of town. At the end of a long day of sightseeing and walking tours, the extra 10-15 min walk back (from the Minster) may be off putting to some. Having said that, it is a nice stroll along the river. Also, I decided to treat myself to a late night bath one evening (midnight), but the hot water was only lukewarm at that time. All showers at "normal" times were lovely & hot though.
Lovely people, a great breakfast and a very nice room.
everything you want for a sort break
not a thing
The location was excellent, only a short walk to all the amenities and attractions. The room was homely and very clean. The breakfast was excellent and a brilliant friendly service.
The bed was uncomfortable.
The room and the guesthouse as a whole was immaculate, comfortable, warm and inviting. Staff and owners were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were another highlight. Would definitely recommend and revisit.
nice b&b with lovely interior, great, breakfast, location not too bad
lovely breakfast and staff were very friendly. Room was really nice and especially liked the roll top bath.
Home made cake/cookies each day
Warm welcome. Comfortable Bed Cookies on arrival Lovely room Breakfast very nice
Convenient location -- many restaurants and shops nearby and only 20 minutes to the city center.
The room was quite small. Better information on the Booking.com site may have led me to a different choice.
