Score from 409 reviews Very good
I wish I had read the reviews before booking. The room was very small, with cheap furniture, and away from the main house. The building looks like the 1970's concrete extension. The room I booked was on at £75 per night, via booking.com. I would put its value at about £30 per night. After a long discussion at reception I was given a double room which looks similar to images they put on booking.com. The receptionist was trying to charge extra £25 per night for this, but finally gave me a ‘free complimentary upgrade’ … The staff is friendly and helpful apart from a security person / nightshift guard Mr. Mark S.. He was very rude and unprofessional, so I complained about him to the hotel manager next morning and was told that he’s a retired policeman, hence his attitude. (what a joke!). Breakfast is only served till 8:45, quite inconvenient. Gym is small and basic. Hydro pool was closed when I arrived. Weak Wi-Fi & mobile phone reception. Never back there again.
Large clean room
The staff, the location, the ease of use. the quiet
Friendly staff , breakfast very nice
Couldn't get phone signal being in the country
On arrival it was just as I was expecting, nice country location in beautiful surroundings.
On booking in and given directions to our room realised we were not going to be staying in the property that I had seen in pictures but instead in a modern room, it had the feel of a university campus. Room was clean and had everything needed just not what I was expecting.
Bar & restaurant were very good.
Bedrooms were more akin to student accommodation & at £95 per night for B&B, too expensive for what it's worth.
The setting is lovely, there's plenty of grounds to wander round if you have the time and a gym/hydro pool which was quiet. Bar area looked nice, but didn't have the opportunity to visit it.
When I checked in my wife stayed in the car. That may have been a mistake since the room we were given was set up for one person (one towel, cup etc). It had a double bed, but up a against a wall since there wasn't room to have it in the middle. Basically I think we'd been given a single room. Reception quickly sorted out additional towels etc. Room was on the ground floor with no net curtains, so the only way to have privacy from passers by was to shut the curtains and be in a blacked out room. The place has a fairly institutional feel and most people staying are probably attending courses there, so from about 6am there was lots of banging of doors. Also breakfast is only served till 8:45 and checkout by 9:45, so not a particularly relaxed start. In all not a great night's sleep. Having said that, perhaps in a different room it would be very different. The rest of the hotel is nice and it's a large place, so we may have been unfortunate.
Breakfast was OK
Very small, cramped, dirty rooms, much like a student dorm. Accomodation in very old block at back of hotel. Gym very limited and not as pictured.
Locality- very close to where we needed to be for the weekend. Staff very helpful. Room clean, bright and modern. Great shower and comfy bed. Breakfast very good and plenty of choice.
Price of taxi for a 5 mile drive- £15 and that was negotiated!!!! Nothing that the hotel could do about that but maybe have a particular firm to deal with.
I enjoyed the overall surroundings and simplistic dining experience. Excellent place would bring my family next time.
Everything was perfect.
The breakfast staff were fantastic really friendly would defiantly return, grounds are stunning.
Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was good and reasonably priced. Rooms were comfortable and shower very good. Iron readily available is always and advantage for someone not brilliant at packing :-) Perfect environment for business meetings.....
Signposts for the centre could be a little more clear? Location on Booking.com site could be a little more accurate.
No food or drink available due to "low number of guests" I was notified of restaurant being closed but only found out about the bar being closed on checking in at 20:30.
Comfortable bed and quiet location with plenty of open space and greenery. Spacious surroundings. Staff were helpful and pleasant.
No air conditioning in the room we stayed in so even with the fan supplied and windows open, we were considerably warm. I would have expected aircon for the price we paid. We were also disappointed to find that the room we were given was in another building on site which was far from Grade 2 Listed but a rather ugly modern 'functional' dwelling. The photos show the older building which is not reflective of the hotel as a whole.
Staying for the F1 great location and beautiful grounds
No food served in the evening and only a limited bar service 8 - 10pm. We were only told this at check in.
Wonderful and really quiet location, great facilities, fantastic food
Weak Wi-Fi signal in the room
Very nice location
The room in the separate building did not have the same nice atmosphere as the main building and the location. Nevertheless slept well on a good bed!
Solved problems when there was a small one. Friendly, helpful staff. Barkeep was a nice young man who dealt with some "entitled" business men. Beautiful grounds.
Hydro pool not very nice, but we are spoiled Americans. It might be nice to Brits
greeting email staff friendly garden
very heavy doors to rooms bin in bathroom not empty
Venue was lovely for a wedding with lots of different rooms, modern and period. Food was delicious.
Pleasent Hotel grounds Comfortable room
Mislead over price of evening meal
Good Wifi Excellent Breakfast Stunning Site
Room a bit basic Bar food limited, & lacking atmosphere
Great English Breakfast buffet Pub onsite Fitness Center onsite Beautiful fields surrounding property
We liked the location and appearance of the main house. Also the history that surrounds the buildings. Bedrooms in the Quad were very nice and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely.
The security person who was walking round the party all night, not very pleasant never smiled and couldn't wait to turn the music off.
everything was perfect. lovely stay
