Noisy road Lack of parking Needs some TLC
Not far from town centre Breakfast is good
Wifi is keeping disconnected Tv was not pluged No enough car park i parked my car in a place when i went to drive around and back then there was no space to park When i parked in road i got a parking tickrt
uncomplicated staff, complimentary parking and wifi
the breakfast room
The room is very small, could not turn around easily. The facilities in bath room and toilet is insufficient. The corridor is too narrow, could hear the sound from other rooms.
friendly kitchen personal in the morning
It feelt like 5000 people had stayed in my room before but except cleaning nothing was changed/ improved/ repaired. Next time I rather stay more outside and take a bus to city centre (bus system is good in Oxford).
- the room was clean and tidy - short walk into city centre
- shower did not have running hot water - staff were not knowledgeable and gave no suggestions of what to do - not enough seats in the kitchen for every room at breakfast, even though you are asked to give a time - dining room staff yelled at guests when room was full at breakfast and gave no indication as to what time to come back
I dint like any thing
From the outside looks like a ghost house, under no circumstances stay here. Towels were not clean, stained carpets and dog stool. It was horrified as my children could not sleep until morning.
Great price, added extra's like good selection of tea, coffee, hot choc, yummy biscuits, cooked breakfast. Good location - walked into the centre and back twice and direct bus outside runs to the centre. Had wifi, parking, comfortable beds, TV in room, iron and ironing board
Not particularly welcoming staff, looks a little tired and run down but overall just great value for money!
Nice, comfortable room, bit cramped, but not an issue. Many gadgets available; iron, hairdryer, hair straightener (though I couldn't bring myself to use it, dirty), fridge, ironing board. The breakfast staff were very pleasant.
The smell of Chinese food as you enter, being offered an en-suite bathroom for an extra £10 which we declined, we were given it "free" anyway, but later realized that all rooms were en-suite?!
Location-only a 15 minute walk into town
Dirty towels, replaced with more dirty ones when we asked for a replacement. Kettle had water sitting in it when we arrived. Asked for a clean one only to have the water poured out and reveal a kettle full of limescale. Dirty marks on the bed sheet-not pleasant at all. Poor water pressure in the shower. Had to pay for the room before seeing it-not able to cancel the booking anyway if we were not happy. We didn't eat breakfast there the next morning even though it was included as didn't want to get ill! Overall-would not recommend staying at this b&b and we were disappointed with the cost of what we paid in comparison
Good location, 20 mins walk from city centre. Fridge and DVD player are very welcome additions, especially when staying a few days. DVDs available from the kitchen area on request. Have stayed few times before, staff generally friendly and helpful.
Check-out time on inside of all bedroom doors is 10am, contrary to info on Booking.com. This affects possible future stays. Lack of parking spaces and no readily available alternative (street parking is with resident permit only) cost us 45 mins after arrival at hotel before we could get in room, and subsequently missed an engagement.
Girls who worked there very helpful. Room was clean. Parking facility was useful.
Outside appearance was awful, looked like a derelict house. Very cramped breakfast room. Objected to having to pay up front before I had seen the room and the rates were very expensive. There was no one in charge living on site.
Very sweet little b&b, the owner was lovely & the breakfast was great.
Opposite a pub!
No en suite Decor Thin walls so you hear every movement in the corridor etc
We did wait a half our before we could check in because the guy was too late! He was very unfriendly!! Our room for two people was very small, smells so bad, was not clean and just looked bad. Bed was very hard! Broken shower, yellow toilettroll( because it was old!) Just bad, never had a so bad room than the Athena guest house ( was for 83£per night one of the most expensive ones which I did ever payed!) So don't go there!
The neighborhood is not bad. Popular but luvely.
Not clean. No real parking. Awful rooms. Noisy. Very expensive for what it is
the room under the roof was ok, the wifi working, cinema and pool billiard and bowling nearby, lots of restaurants within reach. Parking was free.
a noisy area, 30 mins on foot to center, on 1st arrival sent away to come back for checkin at 1300, when coming back closed doors , personal had to be phoned, we were sent away again. Next morning breakfast in mini kitchen room . Lack of organization evident. Staff tried to be helpful.
- plug sockets didn't work with a sign attached saying 'no use'. - paint/wallpaper peeling off walls. - wet bed sheets put on the bed. so when we came back the bed smelt damp. - toilet didn't work - water damage - only one socket worked so many extension leads were plugged into each other it power all the appliances.......very dangerous.
Breakfast was ok, but small. Location is reasonably close to the centre although the area was a bit loud/rough for a family with young children.
Unclear booking process, unsure if en suite or not, unsure if parking reserved. Turned out to be a choice between very grubby en suite room smelling if smoke, or tiny 3 bed room with shared bathroom in a separate house two doors down & across a road. Have to pay up front in cash/debit card. Too expensive £85 per night for what felt like student digs. Would very much not recommend staying here as a family. Got the impression it was owned by a landlord who decided to convert student digs into a B&B at minimum cost for maximum profit.
The friendly owner directed us to one of his other properties on arrival, and offered us two very pleasant rooms, one a family room and the other a double. The family room was near the road and a bit of traffic noise. Everything was very clean and beds well made. Lovely cooked breakfast, and the owner made us very welcome and couldn't do enough to help.
There was a slight problem with the drainage from the shower, and we had problems initially locking the door, but managed in the end.
The staffs are friendly.
The room conditions are very disappointed and it is not same as the photos shown in the website. The room seem like arranged in the last minute.
Good location, free parking Comfortable double bed
the location near the centre
only two bathrooms for six triple/double rooms
The Athena Guest House is actually in 2 buildings. The first one was quite tired and run down and I wondered what we had let ourselves in for especially as we were going to have to share a bathroom... We were asked if we were having breakfast and said no. The man then gave us directions to their 2nd building. Then 2nd one looked like a newer addition. The room was basic but freshly cleaned, laminated flooring, and had a small en suite shower room. We were right at the top so I think we were next to their living quarters but that meant it was very quiet.
The first building.
Very friendly owner..offered us free breakfast that was not originally included.
We did not feel safe in this area. . we walked to downtown, crossed over the bridge...totally different night &day..Everything was beautiful, historic & quaint.Compared to the other Guesthouses from our trip this one was very dirty & cost around the same.
