“ The rooms were clean and airy. Very comfortable beds. The bathrooms were of good size and clean. There were generous supply of food/fruit in the prebreakfast area and also lots of in-room free chocolate/coffee/milk supply. This was refilled daily. ”

In East Oxford, this friendly, family-run guest house offers comfortable en suite accommodation at good value rates in well-equipped rooms, all with TV, DVD player, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The Athena Guest House is one of the original red brick Victorian detached houses common in the area. Today, the original building has been converted to house 7 comfortable en suite rooms, though it still retains lot of charm and atmosphere. The guest house is just a short distance from the city centre, but remains within easy reach of the city’s ring road. Public transport is readily available, with plenty of buses and taxis available nearby. There is a selection of twin, double, triple and family rooms available, each of which includes a number of small but welcome touches, such as a water filter and a choice of wireless or wired free internet access. Hotel Rooms: 7 The most recent booking for this hotel was made on 24 May at 23:08 from Canada.

The room was very clean. Bathroom equally was clean. The breakfast was good Breakfast started at 0800. This is too late a start for people who like myself had to get to a work appointment for 0900. It was a rush.

Text message ahead of stay Decent location (close to local amenities and within walking distance of town centre) Reasonably good value Proprietor seemed preoccupied with other things and would only show up if any problems or to serve breakfast Proprietor did not know the room booking price minus breakfast (or pretended not to) The place looks almost derelict externally Spaghetti junction of cables in the family room

Good breakfast. Close to city center. Room facilites good: TV, tea, coffee, biscuits and comfortable bed. Room was very small and was not cleaned daily and had also many cables laying around. We had to leave our clothes in our luggage since the wardrobe was very small for a double room. Breakfast room was also very small and also full of power cables.

Breakfast was very filling and well presented. Room clean and tidy and plenty of amenities there. Could come and go as wanted. Parking available Breakfast room was very small and often a little untidy. Room did not have a hairdryer. Owners were polite but not very helpfull, seemed not to have time to talk and help. Parking very limited and open onto street.

Nothing it was awful, very very run down not at all like described. Only positive thing to say is girl who did breakfast was nice and host did lift bags up and down from room especially on way out which was a day early as we could not stand to stay there longer. Everything, looked filthy on the outside, like a squat.I was very disappointed with it

I've been working in Oxford on and off for the past year, and without doubt This is the worst b&b I have stayed in. Here goes ! 1) area not nice at all 2) parking limited 3)wall paper peeling of walls 4) mould all over shower 5)no change of towels 6)noisy area 7) keys to your room fit others rooms and vice versa 8) main light in room didnt work 9) lights in bathroom and toilet didn't work Basically place is a sh*t hole

It is old and very dated. Needs rewiring and a proper dining room. We had to move each other to get seated, food was either undercooked or hard from keeping in the oven too long. Only asked once in 3. Days what I wanted the rest of the time either ignored or food just left in front of me. The staff should at least have basic English. cctv cameras everywhere wires nailed to steps All in all rubbish. Where did they get the AA 3stars from??

Location is not so bad - walking distance to the centre. The guesthouse is in the decaying state. What is robust (like furniture) is in Ok condition. What is not robust (like window curtains) is torn and shabby. There is a lot of unneeded furniture in the room which leads to reduced space for you and your luggage (for example you can either use a wardrobe or a support for a suitcase - but not both at the same time). All wires pass over the walls and, upon arrival, you will receive a short course on using different cords for switching things on and off (after all you are in Harry Potter place!). Bed linen is very clean, the towels are not (they are dried in a corridor where all gusts' suitcases can make contact with them). Parking is very limited. Only continental breakfast is included in the price, but the continental breakfast contains one egg - so it is sufficient. The breakfast is served in a very small room which is also used as a storage room. So, you will eat in between of heaps of boxes. Everything is managed but a Chinese guy whose shirt is so dirty that I think he was born in this shirt (he is about 40 now). So, try not to look at him during breakfast - otherwise you will not be able to eat that nice food prepared by him. Oxford city center is located in about 25 minutes walking. The area is not very comfortable mainly inhabited by immigrants. For checking in no one was available and it was necessary to phone to the Chinese and wait for him. There is no reception and frequently no one is available. Overall conclusion: overpriced for what you receive.

It is not a 3 star hotel!!!!! It shouldn't even have 1 star. Everything was old, the room was tiny, the shower was nog fixed firmly to the wall- it kept falling on your head, we had to ask to get it fixed. The dining room was extremely small with dirty tablecloths .they charge you extra for a full English breakfast, which is not mentioned on the site. It was my worst ever hotel experience! You can hardly call it a hotel, it's a bed & breakfast of poor quality. It's also quite remote from the centre and the area I'd not particularly nice.

I really like this hotel. The bedroom was very clean. There were many details like conditioner and body lotion bottles. They served us a wonderful english breakfast although the booking only included continental breakfast. You can get to the city centre in fifteen minutes and there are great pub and restaurants even closer.

The bedroom was very nice, lot of natural light and ventilation. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. It also has a TV set, coffee and tea facilities, dvd and a fridge. The continental breakfast was good (not bad at all as I read some others pointed out). Also the woman that served it was very nice to us. Yes, the dining room may be not as big as it should be, but you have almost four hours to get the breakfast, I think it's a kind of compensation. It's a converted house after all. The neighborhood is very cosmopolite, full of restaurants with baltic, chinese, moroccan, hindu or russian food. Two supermarkets (Sainsbury's and Tesco) are very near too. For some reason we didn't find anybody at our arrival. I spent minutes on the phone trying to get in and we had lots of lugagge, it was very bad to stay out for so long. Everything changed once we got into the room, which was maybe one of the best in our trip. I agree that it's expensive considering you have to walk half an hour to get to the city.

The rooms were clean and airy. Very comfortable beds. The bathrooms were of good size and clean. There were generous supply of food/fruit in the prebreakfast area and also lots of in-room free chocolate/coffee/milk supply. This was refilled daily. There is available in the room facility for ironing rather than having to go out to another place to do the ironing. Location is also good. Alot of bus services and taxis. I would definitely use the place again in future.
