Stunning building Lovely grounds
Not very relaxing when the hotel is also hosting a wedding Fixtures and fitting not the best quality, and some broken in our room
Excellent breakfast with great view from the dining room. Extensive grounds with woodland walks all round. Bedroom was spacious and large comfortable lounges and bar
En-suite bathroom was a bit dated with poor flow shower.Unfortunately very noisy neighbours in next rooms
Lovely hotel, good breakfast.Room adequate for one night,
Room was on top floor in a tower. Wouldn't have been happy with it for more than one night.
I could hear the room next door running a bath, quite annoying.
Loved the friendliness, ambience and location
Bathroom felt could do with bit upgrade but comfort overall was fab
Setting and views. Breakfast was good.
Hotel is desperately in need of refurbishment. We were offered a room in The Manor House, separate from the main building. It was extremely dated and dreary and did not appear clean. We were then offered a room in the main hotel which was equally dated. The bathroom was of poor standard, in particular the shower which was an old style hooked on the wall and fluctuated between scalding hot or freezing cold! The room did not reflect the price charged and should certainly have been considerably cheaper. When I commented on the above to the receptionist she seemed genuinely surprised and offered no apology. I doubt that she has seen the rooms for herself.
relaxed atmosphere in a spacious and pleasantly formal setting
service at dinner one evening was not good due to numbers
Food too expensive. No information about lift or spa.
In general we liked everything
There was nothing we disliked
Fantastic location, Excellent food and tentative staff.
Beautiful building and stunning location. Comfy bed. Most of staff lovely and helpful.
After returning from enchanted forest trip at 9pm was told that no food was available in hotel. We had an early tea and with 2 young children and were ready for some supper. Disappointed as this hotel was advertised on the enchanted forest website as 4 star place to stay! Went down for breakfast in morning to be greated by a grumpy head waiter who clearly did not like children and put us in a curtained off room by ourselves next to a windowsill covered in dead flies. Found a dead wasp also on table which totally put me off my food. Had to ask for coffee, which he got someone else to bring as it obviously below him to do this and instead walked about looking important. Very expensive hotel which in need of refurbishment. Have been in much nicer for alot less!
Excellent location for a one-off treat, beautiful views and excellent staff made it a top quality visit. Loved the spa, food and wine!
Bit too pricey for regular visits
beautiful hotel in lovely grounds
room was a bit on the small side
Dinner was average, and room very old and out of the way
Spa facilities including jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Breakfast selection included tattie scones haggis and black pudding. View from the bedroom were spectacular. Views from the dining room. Location and grounds including herb garden and woodland path to Black Spout waterfall. Open log fires in the evening with comfortable couches and a good gin and whisky selection and cocktail menu. Friendly and attentive staff.
Other guests travelling to the Ryder Cup venue being noisy in hallways at 5am every day. Not really the hotel's fault that their customers are selfish idiots. Very poor vegetarian selection on menus. Options were pasta or butternut squash. Not unusual but disappointing for a hotel aiming at the higher end of the market. Poor selection of ale - only two bottled ales from Inveralmond Brewery. What about Arran, Brewdog, Black Isle, Broughton, St Mungo's, Stewarts, Williams or any of the multiple excellent Scottish brewers?
View from room & restaurant. Lovely gardens.
Dated furniture and dining room.
Fab dinner, and very friendly reception staff.
Breakfast was uninspiring and not great quality. Staff seemed harassed and not interested in queries.
Location and character
Poor bedroom, lack of communication between front office and management, not value for money
Stunning location. Beautiful grounds and walks around hotel.Staff were very helpful and attentive. Restaurant food was good and service was good. Plenty of choice at breakfast and for the evening meal.
Room we stayed in was large and spacious. Decor slightly tired. Would have liked a bath in the bathroom instead of just a shower and would have liked a shower cap to be provided with the toiletries for the price we payed for the room.
Small T.V. No heating in room
Beautiful hotel, clean & friendly
You couldn't even sit on the bed without it creaking! Nor walk on the floor in the bedroom without it creaking...not ideal with a young baby sleeping! The pool could have been a little warmer!
Reception on arrival Location Quality of building Relaxing Good Food Good dining room Courteous Staff My wife and I were very impressed on arrival and were looking forward to an enjoyable stay which had all the all the ingredients to live up to our expectations. However severe disappointment awaited us when we went into the dining room for our evening meal. See what we didn't like.
Evening meal on first night was a very, very unsatisfactory. The 3 course meal which we booked led us to wait for 45 minutes before were approached by a waiter to ask what we would like for our starter. We were not asked what we would like to drink and there were long delays between all of the courses. I gathered the following day that it was due to a congestion of coaches arriving which placed pressure on both staff and kitchen. But it led to an extremely disappointing evening for us. On top of this our room was located next to the plant room which started up at 6.30am in the morning giving us an unsatisfactory night's sleep. However the manager made amends by reducing the cost of the evening meals and moving us to an upgraded room for which we are extremely grateful and made our stay worthwhile. I would hesitate about staying again in the hotel because of the fear that the pressure caused by what I would term overbooking of coaches would take away the tranquility which the hotel can exude.
