Nice reception Big room Spotless clean bathroom
Dated room decor very 80,s Hard as nails bed Being woken twice in the night by fire alarms, got to sleep finally at 5.30, overslept and missed brekfast!! Attitude of staff when we complained"you,re not the only ones the rest of the hotel was woken too"******** Bar full of workman, not the type of place we expect to find this..not a place for families. Dinner in restuarant very expensive and not up to much
Lovely, modern but very small rooms. .
Breakfast was a madhouse. Not enough tables to accommodate guests. No one seating anyone, so by the time you fetch your breakfast, someone else was sat at your table. After mentioning it to staff all they did was shrug. We didn't get our breakfast which was paid for. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. If you require a taxi to anywhere it costs a fortune as there are none locally and they have to come from the next town, which costs big time.
Piece and quiet
Last morning breakfast service was very poor.
Everybody in the hotel was very friendly. Thank You
I have stayed here twice and both times were wonderful. Everything is beautifully presented, breakfast is great and the staff are very welcoming. Definitely not my last trip
Nothing. Just perfect
Excellent rooms and staff
Traffic noise if window open.
Only stayed at this hotel one night so it was good as a stop over. Very modern, clean and spacious. Room was adequate. Staff were friendly enough. Good parking facilities.
Too modern for me with no character or ambiance and I felt cold in the lounge bar. A cosy fire would have been nice. I thought the cost of the food in the restaurant was over priced though it was presented and cooked well. The mattress was too hard so I didn't sleep too well but that is personal choice. Breakfast was self service apart from eggs which had to be ordered through waiter/waitress. This should have been offered upon seating as with the tea/coffee or like my partner, you will finish your breakfast by the time your eggs arrive!!
We waited 50 minutes for dinner, with only 2 other diners in the room ! therefore cancelled AGAIN ! Server went on the missing list. The Manager had a lovely couldnt care less attitude. Spoke to the receptionist, who was very apologetic, (think she was used to it). The bar staff wander off at whim. The list goes on, should had learnt the first time but it was all that was available at short notice. Never again.
Booked a double bedroom for one night. The room was very comfortable and clean. It had everything as we hoped and enjoyed a great night sleep.
The room is quite small but adequate for a couple.
Could hear snoring from the room beside us, as well as the room above us!! So, like I said-bring the ear plugs!! Maybe nets would be good on the windows as the curtains had to be closed at all times, being on the ground floor. Not much to do outside of the hotel-(pubs, restaurants) unless you were to get a taxi.
Very noisy, hardly slept all night due to other guests outside in corridors shouting and talking. Was spoken to rudely by other guests, rang reception to complain and they did not answer.
Friendly waitresses, excellent dinner.
A long walk up and down corridors and stairs to the twin rooms; hot stuffy room with no air conditioning, and noise from the nearby M1 if the window was opened
Room, Cleanliness, Car park was big, Biscuits with tea and coffee. Shower was very good, as was the whole room in fairness. No complaints with that.
Front desk staffs general attitude wasn't what I'm used to as a paying hotel customer. I don't care if they've had a terrible day/night before my arrival. Part of the job in a service industry is treating people with the same respect (at the very least) that they treat you with. It wasn't until a few hours after that I realised how poor the staff were on front desk. Getting rooms mixed up, after TWO previous confirmation emails/phone calls. And fobbing us off because we had similar names. Well, newsflash BROTHERS TEND TO SHARE SURNAMES... anyway, I have little faith that this review will improve anything whatsoever, but I was sent an email asking for a review, so here you are. Thanks.
Professional staff, on reception location nice and quiet
No aircon in room
Quality ofthe food was good
Serving in a bowl with food piled on top was not good presentation. Why powdered eggs for scrambled? Why do some guests get offered breakfast options and not others?
Nice modern hotel
The staff could be a bit more welcoming, felt like dealing with machines. Buffet breakfast very average.
Excellent service, 2 staff members stuck out as being particularly helpful, a young lady with a side plait at reception and Wayne who helped us with our bags :)
At breakfast however the staff were unresponsive, I had to wait for everything to be refilled and by the time I sat down to eat it was cold. I wasn't very happy overall
Prompt check in and very comfy double bed. Service in bar had also improved since my last stay
Nothing at all
location to our private function near by. staff on reception not welcoming, no smile, hardly any eye contact. I had rang the night before to check a room on ground floor for my parents, both have extreme walking difficulties. This had not been done and further more a room on 1st floor was a long way from lift with up and down steps. The worse experience was the chaotic breakfast. My parents had paid £14.95 EACH WHY ?? we only booked breakfast on arrival for £8.95.
Just realised I am typing in wrong column. None of staff (we found out later all agency staff with no idea of clearing, serving, organisation) knew what time breakfast on Sun was served until. our paperwork said 1130 some said 1030 but all buffet food was cold, no plates for at least 20 mins. tables set with half missing cutlery. Fawlty Towers wasn;t in it. Would never stay here again. Rooms were excellent and clean and comfortable. Just a shame about the lack of good service and attitude from staff
The receptionisy keeley was very professional and helpful. Tha maintainance man and cleaners were lovely and friendly
Night reception staff were rude and unhelpful. Breakfast was an absolute sham. Staff training issues!!! Don't pay in advance for breakfast as it costs £15. Book on the day at reception for £8.95. But you'll be lucky to get your food or a cleared table.
Location to a family party at Harpenden Golf club. This was the ONLY reason we chose this hotel. There is nothing else in the area.
Female reception staff was patronising and not particularly helpful.(date of stay 20/9/2014) Sprawling hotel - long walks to rooms with stairs at many turns. Stories of poor service at breakfast with low supplies and queues for fresh food. Fortunately, we were wise enough to bring food with us. No staff manning reception at 2am - could have been dangerous! Rooms cramped Beds average for price Needs a good overhaul
Booked for mum & dad. They liked the breakfast and the room they had was clean and modern.
Phoned the hotel as i wanted to pay. They took my email address to contact me where i would then be able give my payment details. I never heard from the hotel. The booking for my parents could not be found when they arrived and they ended up paying themselves. They found the layout of the hotel confusing. But by the time they left said they would probably go back ( i think it was the breakfast that swung it ! ) they found the hotel difficult to locate in the dark, took them 1.5 hrs to do 3.9 miles !! but that was probably just their age ! and it was 1am!
Finding was room was difficult having been misdirected by the receptionist. What food there was at breakfast was cold with guests standing waiting for bacon, eggs, cups, glasses etc.
very comfy bed
car parking - not enough spaces.
The hotel was really nice and good value for money.
I was a bit disappointed in breakfast as it was cold. If hot food is going to be kept out it should at least have a better way of keeping the good hot!
