In historic downtown Cardiff, this designer budget hotel is across from the Motorpoint Arena. Condé Nast Traveller voted it one of the 25 coolest hotels in the world.

Score from 850 reviews Very good
Extremely clean and tidy
Noise from others coming indrunk and shouting and mattress very soft
The hotel was in a quiet cul de sac opposite the Millenium Stadium and next to picturesque Taf river. Hence just10 minute walking distance to Cardiff city centre and sites. Single rooms have shower and wash basin with shared toilet. Compact but adequate
The location is great and it's very clean. The shared toilets are always in great condition. Friendly and helpful staff. Good value for money.
Friendliness of responsible for housing, clean rooms and a great location
- very supportive and friendly staff (I arrived by train, a bit later than 9pm, phoned to warn about my delay, very accommodating reaction, very friendly) - same room as last time (single room in the basement without bathroom), functional, clean and fine - very central location (not far from central station and city), but very quiet street too - good and free WLAN - very good value for money
- can be a bit noicy (if somebody next door is snoring, but this was not the case this time) - brought my own pillow with me (as i prefer my own, but that is probably a specific concern of mine in any hotel)
Ideal location with a view of river and stadium. A lovely park was just minutes walk away and shops within walking distance. A clean and spacious accommodation made our stay very enjoyable and would stay here again.
Bed was a little too soft for me
Having the facility to park my car in a secure yard at the rear of the premises and leave it there until my departure.
Nothing to dislike.
Extremely friendly personnel, offering help and very supportive, perfect location: near centre and train station, but quiet location; especially nice was the room with the shower - on the ground floor (where i stays the first night), very nice price
pillows, and heavy door in Austin 2 without a propper handle from inside, the room in the basement (without bathroom) was OK too, but unforunately there was a man snorring in the room next to mine (i.e. not very good insulation against noice)...
Once I found a cabby who could use GPS to locate this establishment, I was pleased with it: directly across the river from the Millennium Stadium. Two minutes' walk from a bus stop. Four minutes' walk from Cardiff Castle and a plethora of dining and shopping options, including the city's Central Market.
I was welcomed in silence, offered no tourist info, and essentially ignored. Some would love this. I wouldn't have minded a cheery check-up from day to day, though.
Beautiful plum coloured carpet throught. Additional toilets available on the landing. Wonderful kitchenette available. Windows open easily. Continental breakfast was great value with service.
Macerator for the toilet. They are ok if they work properly, this one didn't I expect it was very old. Headboards were not attached to the beds.
The rooms were clean and presented well
The four flights of narrow stairs and no lift The area, every night there were fights in the street below our window with young people screaming foul language at one another The TV in the second room didn't work and even though I asked 3 times nothing was done to fix it
Good central location; clean; reasonable tariff. Good shower in room. Good ventilation via skylight which was also sufficiently large to provide an alternate exit in case of fire. I didn't avail myself of breakfast so cannot comment on that. The staff I felt did a good job with the resources they had.
No toilet in room, which was rather cramped. Noisy when events held at Millenium stadium ( a stone's throw away, which could also be considered an advantage). NB. The walls were rather thin.
Stairs, needs to be mentioned. On checkout staff was very rude.
On arrival at 13:00 I was greeted at the door by a very rude woman who told me 'rooms not ready come back later'! I had a conference at 14:00 and basically had to beg her to allow me to change my clothes and if I could leave my suitcase there until the room was ready. My room in the basement (room 5) was damp, mould on walls and curtains (I took photos). There are 2 buildings to this guest house 11 and 9. Breakfast is in number 11 and my room was in number 9. The next day my clothes were actually damp and after leaving this hotel after opening my suitcase in the next hotel my clothes stank of the fausty room. As this was a basement room, there were 2 tiny windows which you can not open and overlooked the bins on the pavement. Shared bathroom, no cover on light and wires bare. The toilet was filthy as the previous guest had not flushed the toilet. No soap was provided in the room, which is basic in any establishment. You can hear every movement from other guests so if you are a light sleeper this isn't the place for you. Street parking is charged by the hotel £20 deposit for the residents parking badge, you do get this back when you return the badge - remember to ask for it! I would sooner sleep in my car than have to go back here to stay.
Ease of checking in with very friendly staff.Location, being within easy walking distance of train/bus stations and main shopping areas.Room spacious, with good en suite facilities. The left luggage availability was an added bonus. Thoroughly recommended to anyone seeking accommodation in Cardiff.
Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Millennium Stadium and Castle only a few minutes walk. 8 of us stayed for 2 nights and everyone was very happy with the accommodation. Will stay at Austins again and definitely recommend to friends and family.
No negative remarks
Good location. Clean bathrooms. Great value for money.
The mattress was quite old and bad for people with poor backs. There was some noise nuisance from neighbouring rooms. There was no nightstand or night light. The curtains couldn't fully cover the windows.
in a central position for all the amenities. great value for money break. would have no hesitation of staying there again. all in all a a most enjoyable break in cardiff
The twin superior room was plenty big enough for 2 sharing a weekend shopping break. The kitchenette was excellent and allowed us to make drinks, bring in food as we pleased, etc. The bathroom was a good size and ideal, and although we had to go to another house 2 doors up for breakfast, this was no hardship and the breakfast itself excellent value for money. Superb location within 10 minutes of castle and shops-would definitely stay there again.
Just a niggly thing - it would have been helpful to have had a toilet roll holder in the bathroom.
The staff was friendly. The breakfast was very good and plentiful. The room was clean.
The dining area was very warm and could use better air circulation.
Guest house was extremely clean and well maintained. Modern fresh decor. Staff were attentive and facilities were suitable. Parking tickets were available (and needed), and breakfast offered. Room was suitable (except for the mattress) Location is close to amenities and within walking distance to the city centre. Great location if attending the stadium as directly opposite.
Unfortunately the neighbours are loud (with use of foul language) and very inconsiderate. Leaving rubbish and cigarette ends outside (meaning you have to walk through a cloud of ciggerette smoke to enter/leave building. Also arguing/shouting. Although this is of no reflection on the guest house, due to this I would not stay there again. The bed mattress was uncomfortable as big dip in the centre and needed to be replaced. Doors slamming as guest entered and left. Lack of parking outside.
Brilliant location.. Come and go as u please.. Parking right outside.. River in front with swans.. Value for money!
Walls are very thin.. Can hear other occupants.. Even snoring from room next to ours.. Carpets look a bit grubby within entrance and up the stairs..
We had the apartment at the top floor. The staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was okay, wifi worked well, good location, free parking.
Sometimes there was a heavy humming noise, probably a ventilator from the neighbours, that kept on going for ten, maybe twenty minutes. The tv set had a noisy image, due to the bad location of the antenna.
Austin's was very convenient for the castle, stadium and city centre. Looked newly refurbished, and had everything you could need.
