The location is excellent, especially as a base for a family with children. The Highland Wildlife Park, Cairngorm Funicular Railway and Landmark Adventure Park are all reasonably close by with lots of other attractions not far away. It's also handy for a short wander into Aviemore itself for an evening meal. Good places to eat close by include Papa Rocks and especially the Cairngorm Hotel (right next to the main entrance to the McDonald Resort). If you have young children the soft play area is fantastic - huge in size and on many levels! The pool isn't bad either. It's looking a bit dated. The rooms could do with freshening up, some of the furniture could do with replacing and the bathroom had lots of cracks & general signs of plenty wear'n'tear. To be honest it felt more like a 3 star hotel than a 4 star. I would have expected a small fridge and a better selection of tv programmes (especially for the kids).

Its position It compared to a university campus with poor sign posting. Very little information seemed available but most staff when asked were helpfull. Restuarant was good and staff very good. Our room did not have a shower which worked and as I regard that as a basic requirement in a quality hotel room or indeed in any hotel room you failed my reasons for returning to a hotel test.

Friendly staff and good service The extortionate price of the drinks in the hotel bar! Outrageous. Hotel bar lacked atmosphere because no one was there. No wonder at £17.80 for two drinks (doubles) but very small measures.

Very little. In fact I find it difficult to compliment the establishment in any respect. The staff were surly and the level of service was appalling. When we asked for Bar Food we were treated as thougfh we were an inconviniece rather than guests. The room was dusty and gennerally needed proper cleaning. We were glad that we were only staying the one night.

Staff were generally very helpful and the breakfast was absolutely marvellous We had a problem with the toilet flushing. I reported this at around 7.40pm, but someone came to look only at 10.20pm following a second call. There was no sign of the CD or DVD Players mentioned in the booking.com description. The advertised Steam Room was out of order and due to be repaired "in a day or two". A (claimed) staff member using the sauna said that the Steam Room had been broken since Christmas. Generally, I expected far more for a hotel that cost over £90 per night

My only complaint is that when we arrived, they did not have a booking reservation for us but fortunately after many calls and a lengthy wait, they managed to get us a room which was the last one, goodness knows what would have happened had they been full.

comfortable bed. close to town. good breakfasts. good central point for exploring further afield. Apart from the intial confusion caused by a machine which programmed room keys and took almost an hour to resolve and three journeys back and forth to said rooms to try to open them, the Highland MacDonald was a nice, quiet, clean, comfortable place to stay. There wasnt really anything I didnt like about the hotel other than the above which was made more tolerable by a free room upgrade.

The room, food and staff were very good. The bar prices were too high, the steam room and jacuzzi were out of order, the spa treatments were fully booked, there was no fridge/CD or DVD player in the room as advertised, and our bed wasn't made on the Saturday.

good location, within walking distance of the town. Great breakfast, very polite staff. Unsure about how much an evening meal would be without asking, so ended up eating out. Maybe a bit too formal.

Very good breakfast, room was ok, and clean. The public areas were tired and need refurbished, could not believe that they did not have a bar open for refreshments on a Saturday afternoon, had to get out door clothes on and walk 300 yrds in driving snow to the resort reception to get a drink. As a matter of principle they should tell you in there methods of payments that they charge for payment by Credit card. 4 Star prices but not a 4 Star hotel.

Dinner in Aspect restaurant was beautiful (tho' expensive). The children's food is imaginative, fresh and beautifully presented - such a change from the usual chicken nuggets. No tourist information in the room and no free Wi-fi to search for information. The staff at reception weren' t clued up either. They didn't know the time of the morning ski bus which leaves from opposite the hotel, and they did not have a timetable available. No left luggage room - beware if you have come on the train or sleeper and have to spend the day in Aviemore after you've checked out. No information in the room about the leisure facilities - times for swimming, whether towels would be provided, etc.

I was happy that the MacDonald Hotel delIvered all it promised with the exception of an in room dvd player. This addition would be a nice touch. Other than that we'll be sure to revisit in the not too distant future, as the staff, hotel and location ticked all the right boxes. Could have delivered on in room dvd.

Everything about the hotel is great. We have stayed several times and are never disappointed with anything - from service to food !!! The staff are great, nothing is a problem for them. I love that there is everything within the complex so you dont have to venture far for something to do if you dont want to. Overall - great hotel and fabulous staff - cannot recommend this hotel high enough.
