The location is superb, edge of Clifton for shopping and restaurants etc, and Gorge view and Bridge. A historic hotel with prime position and fine views from some rooms., Enjoyed by myself, as an artist, who wanted to paint the view from the room. I did not like the use of the Avon suite etc for parties and functions, it alienates the residents staying in the hotel, the blackjack tablesin the entrance foyer are particularly unappealing to those wishing for an upmarket and relaxing stay. I think a residents bar/ lounge( with Gorge/ Bridge view) is needed to avoid the crowded bar, open to non residents, and complete with huge tv. I feel that the hotel is unsure about its market and should be aiming higher. The serve yourself breakfast creates a lot of chaotic movement at busy times in the small eating area, adding to a less than relaxing start to the day. You should be offering free range/organic/ well sourced choices for the discerning diner. I am sure that it considers itself more than a budget hotel and should aim at a different market, it seems a waste with all that it has going for it.

The setting was excellent. The room was cramped and stuffy with ivy and other weeds growing through the window. The window would not open properly and the fan supplied in the room was not adequate and extremly noisy. There did not appear to be an extractor fan in bathroom which added to the stuffiness of the room. Although there was a very good choice on offer for breakfast; The cooked breakfast was cold.

The proximity of the hotel to the Suspension bridge and the Gorge amazing views. Staff at hotel very accommodating. Afternoon tea delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the bed. It was so hard I didn't get much sleep. Shame because the rest was excellent.

I paid an extra £10 for a view of the gorge. When I viewed the room we had a view ..... of a black flat roof and the parasols from the pub. I complained at reception and was given another room which was much nicer. The receptionist was very helpful and ensured that we were happy.

Room provided did not look anything like the one in the photo in regard to size and furniture. Bathroom was a mismatch of tiles and not at all attractive.

We only stayed one night combining visiting family with a match at Ashton Gate Stadium, so we chose the Avon Gorge for it's location. As we only paid for a standard room we overlooked the street and were above the pub, which was a bit noisey when we arrived, but by the middle of the evening the noise had gone. The hotel location is fabulous with the old village of Clifton a few hundred yards away and the bridge and woods a few hundred yards in the other direction. Breakfast was great, overlooking the gorge, and we will certainly go back.

Friendly helpful staff, good choice of self service breakfast. Very comfortable room and bed. It is typical of an old hotel that the walls are very poorly insulated for sound. The sound of people moving about and using the toilet next door was a disturbance during the night. Fortunately we were quite far from the lift or this would have been a problem. Not good if you are a light sleeper.

This was the fourth or fifth time we've stayed at the Avon Gorge. It's spacious, comfortable, relaxing and well positioned. Parking can be a problem but that applies to every part of Bristol we've visited.

The location of the terrace bar was superb. We had a sunny late afternoon and sitting overlooking the Avon Gorge was spectacular. The hotel appears to be resting on its laurels. Decor in the bedrooms was long past its best. The bathroom sink did not drain properly and it all could have been wonderful. May be they have a planned for refurbishment!

A lovely building with good facilities in a beautiful location. I visited with my daughter to attend the University open day so it was chosen primarily because of its proximity to the campus. It was, therefore, a pleasant surprise that it was all we could wish for and at a budget hotel price

The views from the room were stunning. Very good-sized room and amazingly large terrace. The late check-out time (noon) and breakfast until 10:30 a.m. are much appreciated for those wanting a late night out or a lie-in :) Lovely neighbourhood and excellent value for money (specially being used to London prices!). Staff were very friendly too, will go back and recommend to friends! If I have to pick something I would say perhaps the decor was a bit dated, but am just being fussy here... :)

Friendly & efficient staff. Generous size rooms Maybe I was unlucky, but 2 light bulbs were blown, the shower just dribbled - over the bathroom floor mostly, the batteries from the tv remote were missing - Perhaps housekeeping should take a cuple more minutes to check all services working before they hand over to reception for occupation. Service in cafe excellent, but food very run of the mill.

It was in a perfect position in Bristol, Clifton. We could look out towards the suspension bridge and enjoy lovely scenery while we were eating. Breakfast was excellent, buffet style and there was a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Staff very nice and helpful. The hotel was in easy walking distance of the shops at Clifton village. I would have liked to stay longer!

Bed and Breakfast prices for a hotel stay. We had a Gorge view room on the 1st floor with a lovely balcony over looking the bridge, it's just a shame it was too cold to utilise it.
