Avon GorgeSion Hill, Clifton, BS8 4LD Bristol (Show map) Good, Score from 445 reviews“Nice friendly hotel . the staff helpful and friendly.”
Nigel,
Tonbridge
Set above Avon Gorge, this hotel overlooks Brunel's famous suspension bridge. It has free parking and a large terrace for al fresco dining with excellent views. Located in Clifton, the hotel is about 2 miles from Bristol city centre, which can be reached on foot. A wide range of restaurants are available within a few minutes’ walk. Avon Gorge Hotel is home to the Bridge Café, a stylish glass-fronted restaurant with a decked area. It offers modern British cuisine and is a good meeting place. There is also free Wi-Fi in public areas. Some bedrooms face the gorge, and others look towards Clifton village. Each room also has satellite TV, and facilities for making tea and coffee. The location is superb, edge of Clifton for shopping and restaurants etc, and Gorge view and Bridge. A historic hotel with prime position and fine views from some rooms., Enjoyed by myself, as an artist, who wanted to paint the view from the room. I did not like the use of the Avon suite etc for parties and functions, it alienates the residents staying in the hotel, the blackjack tablesin the entrance foyer are particularly unappealing to those wishing for an upmarket and relaxing stay. I think a residents bar/ lounge( with Gorge/ Bridge view) is needed to avoid the crowded bar, open to non residents, and complete with huge tv. I feel that the hotel is unsure about its market and should be aiming higher. The serve yourself breakfast creates a lot of chaotic movement at busy times in the small eating area, adding to a less than relaxing start to the day. You should be offering free range/organic/ well sourced choices for the discerning diner. I am sure that it considers itself more than a budget hotel and should aim at a different market, it seems a waste with all that it has going for it.

The setting was excellent. The room was cramped and stuffy with ivy and other weeds growing through the window. The window would not open properly and the fan supplied in the room was not adequate and extremly noisy. There did not appear to be an extractor fan in bathroom which added to the stuffiness of the room. Although there was a very good choice on offer for breakfast; The cooked breakfast was cold.

Room upgrade, suite was spacious, but bit shabby Pre-cooked breakfasts, kept warm, fairly tasteless, and eggs were rubbery, toast was limp, and barely toasted, all could be greatly improved with a little planning and freshly cooked food as and when the patrons arrived into the restaurent

It was very close to the city centre/clifton centre/zoo. It did very nice breakfasts and staff were very friendly. The fried breakfasts and muffins were particularly nice. The rooms were ok, if a bit outdated, but very comfy beds! The hairdryer-slow, not very hot, took ages to dry my hair Shower- all water came together and hit front of bath which meant bathroom would get flooded every time had shower

Location is excelent. Even if it's "part of the package" the coridors are a bit narrow. Especially when you are located at room 33 and need to walk through the whole hotel to get out through reseption.

Location Stunning views of the Gorge from our large, comfortable quiet room Although the room appeared to have been recently decorated the bathroom was tired and in need of attention

Pleasant staff. Location excellent The evening meal wasn't up to the rest of the hotel. The chef needs to take more care with the meat selection. After discussion, the steak dish was deleted from our bill without any problems.

I stay in a lot of hotels: in fact, I stayed in another Clifton hotel last week, as AG was full. I have stayed in the Ritz in the past. The AG was excellent. The staff were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble all weekend. We had 3 rooms and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I rarely reply to questionnaires but I am glad to complete this one. Well done.

We asked for an early check in and the fact that we had this took the stress out of our day.Your receptionist was fantastic. We arrived 1 hour before we were due at a wedding and she calmly sped through all the details and ordered a taxi so we arrived in plenty of time

We went for a 70th birthday and stayed the night, lovely location hotel staff very friendly and comfort and room excellent, just two things could be better the breakfast could be hotter ours was nearly cold, and as we are vegetarians would like veggie sausages. Also would be nice to have more selection on the tv but that maybe a technical thing with your area. Would love to stay longer next time Jand and Ann of Bournemouth

Arriving on a dark winters evening the room was warm, curtains closed, light on. Very welcoming and comfortable. The common parts are tired. The bar is not a relaxing or comfortable place. Being open to the public its not really a hotel bar but a lads pub. The floor is wood the seats hard. There was beer on the floor, a sports channel was playing louder than reasonable and at 7.30pm it was almost empty . To sit and read I got my drink and went straight to the hotel comfy chairs in the lounge- which is slightly better than just a corridor. The lounge and restaurant area are opposite to the rooms- the design is not comfortable-just functional. I think these parts suit the summer better when the outside areas are where people want to be. I would recommend for overnight stays if the location suits as the price is good

Excellent location - good value hotel. Large, clean room and pleasant staff. Good breakfast with lots of choice - although better on Saturday, when English breakfast was cooked to order, than on Sunday when it was a buffet and the food was not kept very hot. Convenient to have free hotel car park as very difficult to park in the Clifton area.

The room was good, the breakfast was adequate. Staff were friendkly and helpful. The shower in the room was not great... Came out like a drainpipe in one continuous stream. Was hard to turn off.

Location is fantastic with views of the suspension bridge and avon gorge as well as close proximity to the fantastic 'city village' of Clifton and yet not too far to walk into Bristol city centre if you're feeling fit. Hotel is comfortable and homey with a bit more character than your standard modern chain hotel. Staff were helpful and happy to accomodate an early check in. Services for business travellers are not fantastic... No wi-fi in rooms for example, just in the public areas, which are not all that comfortable to sit and work in. Rooms are a little cramped. Breakfast fairly standard buffet fare. I wouldn't describe it as a luxury hotel but location and characted more than make up for it being a little rough around the edges.

V convenient for Clifton Village. Friendly and helpful staff. The room I had (122) was noisy (until around 1 am) - was told this could be because it was near the kitchens
