We upgraded to the main building and may i say it was worth every penny. The room ,the service and the breakfast .The staff deserve a big fat pat on the back.
If i had to say anything negative then with a heavy heart it would be that the restaurant in the evening was a tad expensive
Location was good but the Lodge where we stayed was an annexe to Bagdale hotel and this was not made clear at time of booking.
Room was very basic, not good value for money. Shower was a trickle. Had to go down the hill for meals at the hotel, this would have been inconvenient had the weather been wet. Breakfast on day 1 was excellent but was minimal on day two. The same would be expected every day for the price.
The hotel was lovely with friendly staff Restaurant was clean Room was clean but small Location was excellent
Bar closed at 11am on Saturday night
Noise from commercial premises next door... damp and peeling paintwork in room. plain white cheap duvet cover.... mould in shower..
Friendlyness of all staff made you very welcome Room cleanliness was exceptionally good
Thought the cost of drinks was very high for Whitby and as such the bar facilities were not very busy
The layout of the Hotel. The Rooms. The dining
Ibooked a small double room in the lodge area and should have booked a double single beds for my preference .
Closeness to centre of town and the history of buildings.
Could have had better thicker pillows.
The breakfast and staff were excellent. Rooms clean.
The rooms were very basic for the price. A bit 'meh' The weird fire doors feel like being in a council building, despite the outdoor aesthetics of the lodge.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was of a good standard although the menu could have been more varied on a evening .Rooms were comfortable and very clean. Location spot on for amenities.
The bar was understaffed with the barperson having to cover everything else as well . On Monday 08/09/14 we went to the bar about 10pm and found the Hotel door locked . As we couldn't get in we went to a pub in the town. This is just not on . Its not as though it was midnight , so if you want a drink get in early before they lock you out.
The staff were really friendly. The location near the bus and train stations and the town centre was perfect, as this was a car-free holiday. Beds were comfortable. Cooked breakfasts appeared to be freshly prepared, and was tasty.
Our room (32) was incredibly hot the first evening, and we couldn't find any obvious reason for this. It was less so other days, but still on the warm side. Minor niggles:-The bathroom needed a few minor bits of plumbing maintenance - a noisy drip within the cistern; the cold tap in the basin rotates as it turns on; the flow of hot water in the basin was unpredictable; at the showerhead much of the water just spills round the rather than going thro the spray hole.
That we could walk into town comfortably. There was adequate parking, the room was spotlessly clean, staff were extremely helpful.
The three steep steps to access the lodge had no handrail and would be a problem for anyoe on their own who was unsure of their stability. The worst problem was that we had a double room, costing £129, but nowhere to sit. There was one small dressing stool which would not facilitate being sat on for any period of time, but no chairs. The TV was a ceiling height and could only really be viewed with any comfort from lying down on the bed. Considering the average chain hotel at half this price has seating and significantly more comfort we were very disappointed.
This was a lovely place to stay, the old hall was a great building to have breakfast in. It's location in the centre of Whitby was good particularly with young children. The rooms were very clean and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great with more than plenty to eat.
It was difficult to sit and relax as there were no chairs in the rooms. The pillows were rather thin and flat but none of that detracted from a great stay.
parking at the hotel.location to the center of town.
guest allowed to smoke in the doorway outside next to our bedroom window.
Very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Nice location. Attractive building.
Good/clean hotel Excellent staff Great breakfast
nothing to dislike
Liked the central position of the hotel, the friendly staff, the old world charm of the main hall, the breakfasts, the high quality of cleanliness and facilities. It was a treat to stay in such a lovely hotel just a short, level walk from the centre of Whitby.
A TIP: I will try to book a room in the main hall next time rather than the Lodge so as to enjoy the old hall itself.
Parking on site which is a big plus in Whitby.Breakfast choice good for cooked items
Bagdale Lodge nice Georgian building inside clean but a bit hostelly.Continental breakfast choice poor, prunes or tinned fruit cocktail, individual packet cereals.Know it is to some extent comparing apples with oranges but on the way up to Whitby we stayed at Kegworth House.
Lovely staff. Very comfy bed. Very generous breakfast.
Toilet didn't flush properly. Clock didn't work. Musky smell in room. Noises from I think crèche next door even though I stated quiet room wanted.
It was clean, warm and the food was good.
Too remote from Dining facilities. You had to go outside to get to the main hotel. If you left your room you had to prepare for the possibility of rain on your return.
Clean and in a good location. Breakfast was lovely
We always book accommodation that has a bar, however on arrival the information in the room stated that the bar is closed when it is quiet, and so it was. Very disappointing to say the least especially when there are no family friendly pubs in the evening.
Loved everything about it. The staff were fantastic
Good proximity to all the towns major attractions. Easy walking distance. Food good.
The seagulls roosting in the surrounding area left their mark on parked cars, and never knew the meaning of "Be quiet".
Location Staff Size of room (bagdale no4) Car parking Breakfast
A continental breakfast choice for added variety
The welcoming environment and friendly staff
Location. Parking. Staff. Building. Historic value. Breakfast.
