Bailbrook House, BathLondon Road West, BA1 7JD Bath (Show map) Good, Score from 695 reviews“Beautiful setting, relaxed, historical feel (not a box-like chain hotel), friendly, and a great value.”
Joseph,
San Jose
Set in large gardens on the edge of Bath, this beautiful Georgian mansion with a gym, a tennis court and very good service is a 5-minute drive from Bath city centre. Bailbrook House hotel has spacious en suite rooms with free Wi-Fi and room service. All of the modern rooms are in a building adjacent to the main house. Bailbrook House has free parking, a sauna and a hot tub for guests, plus mountain bikes to hire. The Grade-II mansion overlooks the Avon Valley and is 10 minutes from the M4. The restaurant with terrace has an AA Rosette for its cuisine, and serves a good buffet breakfast in the morning. The bar is open all day and serves lunch. Hotel Rooms: 78

I liked the location & easy access to the city. We felt the pictures of Bailbrook House online were deceiving, pictures of the main house were luring & full of character. We expected the hotel rooms to be located within the main house, but what we discovered was a mish mash of character & poorly modernised - now dated buildings for the hotel rooms, breakfast are & spa. Very disappointing & over priced on that basis.

The outside of the building was beautiful, but very deceiving because inside was not nice at all. Walking up to the old Georgian Manor was wonderful. The architecture was beautiful and from what I saw on their website and what was in the booking.com listing led me to believe this was a luxurious hotel. Unfortunately, beyond the lobby was a completely different experience. The wing where the rooms are look like a budget hotel with old stained carpeting and institutional looking hallways. When we entered our room we had renewed hope since it was nicely decorated and large. But it was just appearance because the bed was horrible. The King bed was actually two twins pushed together that weren't the same height so the crack in the middle was very obvious and impossible to sleep on.The mattresses were old with springs poking through all over and there was a large dip in the middle of each which caused us to keep rolling toward the uncomfortable middle. We both woke with terrible backaches. The spa room was small and could only accommodate a couple people at a time. The jacuzzi was not hot enough and there were no controls to raise the temperature. The woman at the front desk when we checked in was very difficult to understand. She had an unusual accent that was very thick and she didn't seem to understand us either. Getting information about meals and transportation was quite a challenge. The dining rooms were not decorated at all and looked like cheap conference rooms. The tables were plywood and didn't even have tablecloths on them. There are no pictures or decorations on the walls and hardly any light in the room so when we had dinner the first night we felt like we were sitting in a dark corner, but not in a romantic way. The young waitress didn't know anything about the menu and barely opened her mouth when she spoke so it was difficult to get any info from her about the food. Our meals took a long time to come and was expensive for what was offered. The Bailbrook House was a very disappointing experience and not worth the cost at all.

It was all very nice and so was the staff. It's not that I didn't like anything, but one thing that bugged us was that we had our 6 month old son with us so we had to have room service in the evenings (the restaurant opened at 6:30pm) which is our son's bedtime. But there was no table, there was 2 chairs but no table to eat our food. We did ask for one, explaining the reasons why but the manager was unable to help us. Surely if you are offering room service you should have a small table in the room!! This is the only negative thing I have to say though.

The hotel was value for money, with ample parking, which is useful as it is expensive in the city centre. Plenty of facilities and good menu. All staff members seemed friendly, helpful and as if they enjoyed working there, which contributed to the general atmosphere. Our room was at the end of a relatively busy corridor, which appeared to be the main access point through the building. At times it was noisy, both late at night and early in the morning. Also, although not a fault of the hotel, the taxi ride into bath was pretty expensive. I woukld recommend getting the bus, which stops on entrance to the hotel.

Friendly staff, nice room, nice setting (I think, but it was dark all the time we were at the hotel, so I'm not quite sure). The hot water in the shower varied from lukewarm to extremely hot: you had to jump aside at times! The hairdryer died after about 15 seconds... The young ladies at the desk possibly had no experience in driving to Bristol Aitport in time for an 08:30 flight: We were an hour early - and that's a lot if you get up at 5 in the morning!

Large room. Ensuite including bath & shower. Easy access to room I.E. could come & go as I pleased. Clean & comfortable. Beautiful main house as you drive up. No verbal introduction to facilities - impersonal. No offer to carry bags, show me to room. No advice re how to access sauna, gym...whether to take hotel towels. No advice re whether or not spa facilities would be available - not very hospitable. Room service - the only 2 items I requested on the menu were not available! Convenient but a little disappointing that bedrooms are not in main house

Very much enjoyed the food. Apparently they were in the middle of changing the team in the kitchen. Quality of our meals was high although when ordering a blue steak, it arrived as a medium. However the quality of the meat was good enough to carry it so no complaint was made. As this was obviously a quiet time for the hotel it was being run with minimal staff. Therefore the downstairs conservatory bar was closed leaving only the upstairs bar which opened at 5 pm. I understand that smoking is now an unsociable habit but as a smoker (paying the same as everyone else) the trek through the hotel, past the restaurant and up the stairs is a long way if you want to pop down for a cigarette during the evening. I guess other people felt the same as we were the only people in the bar during out 3 night stay. (Not even a member of staff most of the time as they were busy elsewhere) Surely the conservatory bar next to the coffee lounge and the computer room is a better option. Also, with no staff available, I feel the coffee lounge should have had a pot of complementary coffee on the go at all times. The cost to the hotel would be minimal but it would avoid guests feeling like they were an inconvenience. Newspapers in the coffee lounge were also expected but the only place a paper was available was the restaurant! The one place where guests should not be reading a paper!

The room although a bit dated was large and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good. It was obviously geared up for conferences or large gatherings and as such was a bit impersonal. We had to go outside to get to the reception and as it was cold and wet it was not very pleasant. We probably wouldn't through choice stay there again. We only stayed there this time as we couldn't get in anywhere else in Bath.

It was easy to walk into Bath. The rooms were clean although the Queen Bed was joined in the middle and was not as comfortable as it should have been. Both my daughter and I had trouble with our room cards. They did not work. At one point my daughter was outside the door and her 1 year old inside and she could not get in and had to rush to reception. Not terribly safe as he is walking around.

The hotel was in a good position for visitors to bath to enable travel into the city by bus and avoid congestion and difficulty with parking. The room was small for an "executive" room, and pricey at £145 without breakfast.

Paid the extra for a superior room which had been refurbished. It was large and comfortable with good facilities. Hotel is a bit faceless with no heart with main rooms are out the back of the main building. If you want warm and cozy look elsewhere.

The service was attentive and personal, and the food was great. The rooms looked dated and carpets tired. We weren't a massive fan of the two single beds pushed together. The service was great although felt like their were understaffed with people waiting too long to be seated at dinner.

Location. Friendly helpful staff No restraunt facilities over the weekend. Cold, univiting conference type common areas, non-stop loud football coverage in the only bar that was open. Breakfast was a scrummage and was understaffed for the volume of guests.

A Bath institution, this is a lovely old house run by nice efficient people where lots of weddings etc happen, just outside town in it's own grounds with lots of parking and views down the valley, with a breeze- block sort of accommodation wing added at the back with slightly student- like air, hosting adequate, comfy reasonably spacious well-appointed rooms. The accommodation has an element of a motel experience, as entry to the rooms is not through reception but straight from the car. I can't comment in the dining as I didn't, but breakfast is an adequate, entirely typical but not gourmet hotel buffet in pleasant surroundings. I would certainly return to Bailbrook House on any trip through Bath.

Location was excellent. Food was good but not great. Good size room. We stayed with a 10 week old baby, when we went for breakfast we was put in a separate room on our own, even though the dining room wasn't busy, then another couple and thier infant child was seated in there. We felt hidden away because we had a child. Also lack of information for visitors (attractions)

“Comfortable clean rooms, peaceful ambience, very customer focussed and competent staff. Breakfast was just as previous visitors have decribed, a good selection to please most people and on a par with upmarket hotels. Car parking although £10 a day for the service is worth it in Bath. Location for city centre walking is excellent.” Michael, Wynyard |
