On the downside, there were some odd noises in the night...in my half asleep state it sounded like a loft ladder was being pulled down
and scaled several times, but in the morning I could find no obvious cause of this. I always travel with ear plugs as I am a light sleeper, so had the remedy at my fingertips.
From reading previous reviews of the single bedroom, I had steeled myself for a windowless / small, high up windowed room, especially as I booked the last available room. I was therefore delighted with my small, snug room, with mini en-suite and , da da, nice, bright window. The breakfast was delicious ( although the mushrooms were a bit funny tasting, and I'd not have them again) and the dining room very pleasant. This is excellent for a 2 star place, although a little dated, and I'd be happy to stay again. The best part was the ease of travelling on the bus to and from the town centre. The bus stop is only a minute's walk from Balkan Lodge, the buses are frequent and run late into the night. A good little find.
