Location. The first room we were shown was horrible in the basement and did not meet the promise of zip and link beds. The alternative fo rthe first night was in the Apartments next-door-but-two where the power electricity was not working so the water was cold and there were no bedside lights. After that everything was ok for the remaining three nights and what the hotel lacked in style it made up for in location. |

ease of access to city centre 5minutes walk and waverley station We did not like being on the top floor some 69 steps!! also on a very busy road very noisy at night casino opposite also noise until 4/5am |

i was supposed to stay at the Ballantrae Albany but we got moved to the Ballantrae West end a wk before our stay, in fairness to the hotel we got good notice, but maybe if we got to stay in the Ballantrae Albany my comments would have been better. The location was ok, price was good. Some of the hotel staff were very rude, we were a group of adults but they treated us like teenagers! We got locked out of our room one morning and got no help with regard to getting back into our room and management were not very nice about this situation the next day. We got accused of breaking a door! |

The staff where exceptional extremely helpful and friendly and made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable no faults at all and the rooms where very clean and comfortable i would have no hesitation recommending this hotel to anyone. |

The staff was super-friendly & helpful. The location was convenient for running the Edinburgh Marathon (10 min. walk to starting line). The beds & bed linens are in need of updating. There is no lift, so if anyone in your party cannot tote their suitcase up & down at least 1 flight of stairs, be prepared to act as sherpa! |

The Ballantrae Hotel was in a convenient location to major city sites. The hotel staff was very helpful. The heating system was inadequate. The security could be improved, i.e. chains on the door and a safe. There was no lamp over the desk area, and one of the bedside lamps was out of commission. The pillows were not substantial. |

Upon our arrival the person at the desk was very helpful and worked hard to get the info we needed. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Our room was dirty. The carpets were torn and had spots. They didn't vacumm well before we arrived and didn't vacuum at all the second day while we were there. They didn't give us fresh linens with no notice of this. I wouldn't have minded if I had known. They through away the soap in the shower with out giving us a replacement. |
