Situated on edge of New Forest. Pleasant walks available from outside the front door. No need to use car. Room was not up to expectations for 4* establishment.

Staff were friendly and helpful. American double room was very comfortable, and it had windows that you could open, excellent. Iron the linen, our beds looked as though they hadn't been changed.Wash the bathroom floor between guests. Tha maitre de should be there to welcome guests in the dining room to show guests to their seats ect., not running to and from the kitchen. You need more staff. The dining area was like the Marie Celeste when we approached it.

The hotel is in a good location for exploring the New Forest. The food in the hotel is very good. The hotel staff were excellent. Although we didn't use the leisure facilities we did have a look and they seemed to be very good, and the indoor swimming pool looked excellent. Our room was a standard double, which had been refurbished about 2 years ago. The room was very good, with all of the things you would expect, and we were lucky enough to have a view overlooking the outside pool area (not neccessarily guaranteed with the standard double). The hotel has ample parking on site. All in all we would recommend the hotel. If you don't want to eat in the hotel, it is a fairly long walk to the nearest pub, or a reasonable drive into the nearest town. Although the food in the hotel is very good, expect to pay at least £80 for a two course meal for two plus a bottle of wine in the restaurant, and about £50 if you choose the lounge menu. Bar prices also reflect the 4 star rating of the hotel. Our only grumble about the room was that the mattress was very, very hard and really needed to be replaced. Room rate is possibly a little on the high side if you are not going to use the leisure facilities.

Friendly staff, helpful and curteous. Cleanliness and comfort of room. Excellent food, my partner is a vegetarian and she found a good choice for both evening meal and breakfast. Ideal location for both the New Forest and also within easy reach of coast. Thouroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate recommending the hotel to friends.

Room was spacious and comfortable. The food was excellent and the spa was inviting and well managed. Staff were helpful and cheerful. Apart from the stairs which gave an impressio of being light and airy the decour in the hotel, although of high quality can only really be described as sombre. Tablecloths in the dining roomwould I believe lighten the atmomsphere in the evenings although I appreciate that would come at a cost.

Covenience of location. Booking availability. Competative price compared to other hotels in the locality. Honeymoon at the hotel some 30 yrs ago!! Interesting to see what had changed etc. The mark up on bar drinks and wine at table prices. Heard a member of bar staff apologising to a customer for the cost of two drinks they had ordered. Also, we would not have eaten in the evening at the hotel if we had known about the pricing of drinks from the bar in advance. However, we did eat in the lounge bar area ,( due to tiredness after a full day and convenience) and the food was very enjoyable.

The service was superb, also the food both in the bar and Beresfords.A Lovely room, clean and tidy. Our one gripe was the noise problem. There was no way of closing the bedroom doors quietly. The problem arose (I think) from the fact that they are fire doors and consequently have to be heavily sprung, but when you are asleep and one of your neighbours comes in late or leaves early in the morning it can become quite annoying. Having said this, it would not stop us using the hotel again.

We sat in the lounge waiting for afternoon tea / coffee, it was busy and the waiting staff we skurrying around, however, there was a senior member of staff nearby who could see we were waiting, but ignored us and carried on chatting to another couple - from the conversation they wer locals. Not the most impressive customer service and not what we experienced on a previous visit, quite disappointing.

The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The reception was excellent and very friendly. The breakfast was very good. The food was very poor in the dining room and the service was awful in the evening. The hotel needs to sort out the quality of food which doesnt match what they advertise. The hotel was shabby in the main rooms.

The staff were excellent, friendly and a pleasure to meet. We did report on the friday that our bathroom sink leaked water when used. We had to use a towel to mop up the water. By monday nobody had turned up to repair the problem, meaning we had to clean the floor ever time we used the sink.

Charming country-house atmosphere in a lovely location in the heart of the New Forest. Our room was newly refurbished and had views over the cricket pitch and ponies even though we did not pay for 'forest view'. Lovely! Excellent dining and good location for walks in the forest or a stroll into the village of Brockenhurst with shops and plenty of choice of pubs/ restaurants. A short train ride away from Southampton for shopping. It was nice to relax in the pool and sauna at the end of the day - What more could you want?

The hotel is in a nice location. We we arrived we decided to sit outside and enjoy the lovely sun whilst we had a drink. I do not understand how they can justify charging £9.50 for a large glass of white wine. We would recommend staying at the hotel would not recommend the restaurant, which is overpriced. We ordered figs and goats cheese salad and the serving was not even a child's portion. We were expecting fresh figs but were given what probably amounted to one dried fig cut in to quite a few small pieces. The main meal of John Dory was not a lot better. I ordered coffee with petit fours but was served a piece of nutty chocolate cut into four pieces and placed in paper cases. .
