The room was lovely, as was the breakfast.
liked everything good food nice extras in room lovely surroundings
room a touch cold at first
Excellent location, facilities, friendly and helpful staff. Room really warm and all the home comforts, including Tea Pig tea. Took our dog, had his own bowls, bed, treats and even poo bags provided along with a meadow walk! Food was of a high standard too. Would recomnend the fillet steak!
We have stayed at Barnsdale Lodge many times over many years. We love everything about it.
Artificial flowers on our landing to bedroom were dirty with old dust - better not to have them?
Beautiful situation with wonderful views. Excellent staff. Very good food.
Location, room, breakfast options.
Evening menu prices too expensive for portion sizes. Was still hungry afterwards.
room and breakfast excellent
the evening menu could have done with a few more lower priced basics
The real fire by reception The comfy seating in the lounge The warm ambience of the main reception areas The restaurant decor Quality towels Hot water which was hot! Friendly check in and out. Good breakfast choice Lots of local information
The lack of steak or venison available for dinner 1st night. The decor in the conservatory - tired faded umbrellas??? Very limited dinner menu.
The staff were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and of good quality and the hotel and gardens were lovely... the gardens even better in Summer
Ground floor, spacious room, nice bathroom, amazing power shower. Very pretty courtyard.
Dog in the room next door barking during the day AND night - awful! When we complained they just said sorry but the ground floor rooms are for pets - if I had known that I would have asked to be moved as am allergic to animal hair. Really uncomfortable bed resulting in 2 nights of no sleep - complained but nothing done about it. Lock broke off our room door which was a fire hazard as we couldn't get out - ended up fixing it ourselves with tools from reception despite reporting the problem as I am claustrophobic. Ancient hairdryer. Asked by bar staff if we wanted any more drinks as he wanted to cash up!! Then stood staring at us waiting for us to leave - felt very uncomfortable. Only 25ml given for Cinzano when should have been 50ml. No sparkler on hand pull pumps resulting in no head on pints. Frozen chips served in an a la carte restaurant!!! Say no more....
A very comfortable country retreat - great staff!
The room was ideal The dinner was delightful especially the Rutland trout The staff friendly and helpful
Cosy, warm, comfortable
Good food in the evening
Dirty smelly rooms staff look bored and fed up with no visable leadership from anyone. Staff are rude. Did not even get a basic hello or goodbye. Walk around thinking they are good but missing even basic customer service skills. The welcome leaflet in the room talks about the general manager and his passion for customer service. He needs a course on management and the staff need a course on customer service. They actually stood arguing amongst themselves on two separate occasions. Absolutely embarrassing and a complete shambles. Far too many complaints to list from start to finish
Location and very laid back atmosphere
Expensive menu and limited selection. Local pubs offer far better value.
The staff were very pleasant and did there best to make our stay enjoyable.
We did originally book two single beds as my husband is disabled. The hotel rang to say these were not available after all would we take a double room. The bed was very small. No wifi in room we were in.
Pet beds and bowls provided in room. Grounds and location excellent. Reception area and grounds...fabulous.
Room and decor, tired. Service in restaurant poor. Food , expensive for quality of cooking.
Staff, food and location all very good indeed. Room nice, clean and spacious.
Price of food too high really.
No staff members appeared to be taking ownership of ensuring guests wanting a drink in the bar got one in a timely fashion. I and others after me had to go and find someone.
Fantastic superior room - very attractive, spacious and comfortable, very good restaurant, good service.
Waiting long time for hot water in shower, burnt toast and weak tea!
We enjoyed the location and our visit to Barnsdale Gardens just down the road. At short notice and no trouble we managed to book an additional room for friends so our stay made even more pleasurable. Breakfast very good and the staff were attentive. Overall the hotel had a cosy atmosphere we would certainly return.
Would prefer to have a walk in shower. the climb in shower/bath was difficult and a had rail would be a great safety feature.
Homely and comfortable. Very pleasant cosy inner dining room with good food both dinner and breakfast.
GREAT LOCATION,STAFF MAKE YOU FEEL VERY AT HOME ,VERY DOG FRIENDLY.FOOD ALSO EXCELENT
