Reception and food
Location. Comfort of hotel. Traditional country hotel. Attended a wedding reception there. Food excellent. Would definitely return.
Comfortable room, good food and attentive service.
Cannot think of anything to not like.
Very attractive hotel cose to Rutland Water. Helpful & friendly staff- great food. Even given theGranola recipe - nothing tops this for breakfast!
The hotel is in a great location near Rutland water and most of the rooms offer views over the countryside to the water. The hotel has great character and the breakfast in the conservatory was lovely. The gardens are also a very pleasant feature.
Our room had very poor wifi connection. The breakfast service was rather slow. We had to wait about 10 minutes after we were seated before we were offered a drink. There was a fair set of options, including cereals, yogurts etc., but even though we arrived midway through the breakfast session there was no fresh fruit left and it was not replenished whilst we were there.
Service - excellent, with a smile. Breakfast, served timely and very tasty. Treatment and care for pets, outstanding, never saw better. Location - Lovely. Cleanliness - perfect. I will come back!
I liked everything!
Reception staff are an absolute joy to deal with - attentive, understanding, and willing to go not just the extra mile but to do whatever it takes to make guests happy, and all with a genuine smile and friendly chatter. Although restaurant staff were OK, they have a lot to learn from reception staff. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed the variety of areas in which to sit and relax, both inside and out. We had two rooms during our stay; the better room was decorated beautifully with lovely views of the lake, and in both rooms the bathrooms - particularly the showers - are excellent. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts on each morning of our stay and dined in the restaurant on our final evening. The food was exceptional.
Our original room overlooked the car park, an issue for me as a light sleeper. More of an issue was being next to the banqueting suite which hosted a wedding. The music finished at midnight - very reasonable for a wedding in my opinion, but unfortunately guests and taxis created much more disturbance afterwards until the early hours of the morning. Perhaps the taxis could be instructed to use the overflow car park to queue rather than parking directly beneath guest bedrooms? Another issue with the original room, though light and airy, was the quality of some of the decor/furnishings. The curtained wardrobes reminded me of student days and let the room down; surely it wouldn't cost too much to replace this? And the carpet was dated and a little worn, as was the valance. Small issues that, if improved, would have made this as beautiful a room as the one we moved to later in our stay.
good room size, layout food staff helpful
cleanliness - bathroom grubby and debris behind furniture and under bed pillows too hard - at prices charged i would expect soft pillows breakfast rushed, even though we were there early
The staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. I particularly enjoyed the cosy dinner by the fire in the small dining room, as opposed to the conservatory on the second evening which was a little cool.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay - as usual . Staff / food / excellent - location - in our opinion idyllic .Looking forward to our next stay .
staff very helpful food good but overpriced
bed very narrow for a double. the mold that is in the shower really needs addressing- lots of black patches
fantastic breakfast and stunning veiws.
- excellent staff - very helfpul (even when arriving literally in the middle of the night) - great atmosphere - delicious breakfast - well-equipped rooms - (I don't often say this) good value-for-money
The surroundings, especially the central gardens, are lovely. The Bar and the "same-thing"lounge and soggy armchairs were most enjoyable.
Didn't like what seemed to us a kind of laissez-fair Reception, not did we appreciate the longer-than-usual find-your-room-yourself challenge, after a long drive. At Dinner, we hated the constant very loud shouting between kitchen and waiters who were unaware of their gross noise pollution! Worse still, they forgot our wine until, totally unchilled when it did arrive after my complaint, I rejected it. I guessed they expected being put in these stocks too and I'd happily throw rotten veg at them because the experience was awful.
All staff were very helpful, the evening meal was excellent. No doubt we will return at some time in the future.
Courtyard was great for relaxing. Our room was wonderful. I stayed there on a short break with my mum and we both had a wonderful, relaxed time. I would strongly recommend the hotel to all my friends.
Stayed in a single room, very well appointed and good quality toiletries. Special breakfast for early event start was very well appreciated. Evening meal in restaurant was excellent.
Restaurant was excellent but portion sizes could have been a little larger (but that's just me)
Every. Thing was very good
Wifi did not work in our room
Very comfortable and spacious room a bargain at the price. Excellent restaurant. Choice of local real ales at bar.
Ground floor rooms lacking in privacy. 'Full English' breakfast portions not generous (1 rasher, 1 sausage, half a tomato), though overall breakfast selection good.
The room and grounds were lovely. We overlooked the croquet lawn, fields and had a view of Rutland Water which was delightful.
The on-site "shop" was literally a glass cabinet in reception with a few goods to buy. We were expecting a proper on-site farm shop selling local cheeses, pies, preserves etc.
The general ambience
Having to leave after only one night!
Room was small but comfortable and clean and bathroom very nice with good powerful shower.
One evening meal was disappointing - tomato & basil soup inedible (overwhelming taste was of celery). Dauphinoise potatoes not evenly cooked, but other meal was tasty. Cooked breakfast only adequate, but own granola very tasty.
Room, grounds and hotel facilities
Although beds appeared very comfortable we both woke the following morning with neck ache/ bad heads from the pillows. Other pillows were available but too late by then.
