Location and surroundings are excellent Reception was efficient, though not over friendly or welcoming. Our room was rather small - barely large enough for two people (there was just one chair). the bathroom was equally small, and had the mould patches on the tile grouting that I now come to expect from a british hotel. Decor tired. Not enough milk etc on the hospitality tray for 2 people for one night, reception couldn't top up but suggested we take the walk to the restaurant Used the pool, but the water was cloudy and left eyes stinging - the pool and changing room area could do with a thorough deep clean and refresh particularly the flooring around the spas

The food and service were excellent after you had walked up four stories of steps to get to it - unbelievable ..... Rude / unhelpful reception staff, did not know how to operate room heater, did not tell us that there was (tiny) lift access most of the way up to dining, only 2 pillows on bed - overall this is more like an Australian Leagues Club without pokies than a luxury hotel .... just bad news ........

I liked the hotel with the lovely views. The room was very good, although was disappointed in the bathroom toiletries selection. I really enjoyed the hotel but was disappointed in the Restaurant menu. It was not very inspiring and the bar menu was about the same. We decided to eat in the bar instead of the restaurant. However the food was very good.

The room was very large and extremely comfortable Lovely grounds, though could not access Rutland Water from the hotel Tea and coffee facilities poor quality biscuits (only 2 packs for a room for 4) No hanging space in bathroom which was huge so nowhere to put the towels Continental breakfast disappointing though the staff were fantastic Though not the fault of the hotel, the pool was out or order which was the reason for our stay

Easy parking. Staff very helpful. Good breakfast with plenty of choice, however dinner could be improved. First room shown was rather small and dark but reception staff changed the room as soon as I requested. I am going back in September and have booked a superior room which are much larger for a few pounds more. Minor point - it would be good if there was a swimming lane at times when children are having splash time in the pool. The hotel is quite spread out which could be a problem if walking is difficult.

We chose Barnsdale Hall Hotel for its location and we were not disappoited. It is a superb setting and the grounds are kept immaculate. We found the food in the restaurant very good and the spa facilities were good as well, on the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A return visit for a joint 50th Birthday break. Amazing weather, very relaxing, good food, local shopping and a visit to Barnsdale Gardens, Osprey's sighted and a swim in the pool! A simply fantastic break, we can't wait to return!

Poor Reception staff, could hardly speak English. Room decoration was very tired and in desperate need of renovation. Bar menu was limited and unappealing as was the food when it arrived. Not value for money at all. There are better places to stay locally.

Loved the peaceful location and scenery. Sense of privacy. Breakfast very good quality and diningroom comfortable. Staff very attentive Room was a little bit small but then it was advertised as a small room. Would have been nice to have view other than that of a wall from window!

The location was second to none with wonderful views over Rutland Water and was ideal for walking and cycling straight from the hotel. facilities were good and very clean. Food was excellent, though we only had breakfast. Local area was beautiful with good pubs and restaurants close by. It would have been nice to have more outside seating areas where you could take a drink and sit and look at the views, and it was a shame that some of the more recent lodges have been put in front of the restaurant area which has restricted the views from there.
