Location and surroundings are excellent Reception was efficient, though not over friendly or welcoming. Our room was rather small - barely large enough for two people (there was just one chair). the bathroom was equally small, and had the mould patches on the tile grouting that I now come to expect from a british hotel. Decor tired. Not enough milk etc on the hospitality tray for 2 people for one night, reception couldn't top up but suggested we take the walk to the restaurant Used the pool, but the water was cloudy and left eyes stinging - the pool and changing room area could do with a thorough deep clean and refresh particularly the flooring around the spas

The food and service were excellent after you had walked up four stories of steps to get to it - unbelievable ..... Rude / unhelpful reception staff, did not know how to operate room heater, did not tell us that there was (tiny) lift access most of the way up to dining, only 2 pillows on bed - overall this is more like an Australian Leagues Club without pokies than a luxury hotel .... just bad news ........

Leaving in the morning never to return! The room was dark, out of date and dirty. There were two windows that looked onto a concrete wall and there was no hot water, when reported to staff they were unconcerned. I will never stay or recommend this hotel to anyone!!!!!!!!

We stayed at Barnsdale for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. The room was great with a lovely view over Rutland water. We were a little apprehensive about going due to some of the reviews but we had no complaints at all. The leisure facilities were great, the food was wonderful although a little overpriced and the staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. We would recommend this Hotel The restaurant was a bit pricey but bar meals were very good value.

A dated hotel , overpriced for the quality of the rooms. Had a disabled room allocated as last available and shower head came over the sink. Bed and pillows uncomfortable and the room was cold and dark. Breakfast was poor. Asked three times for teas and coffee and toast. On the positives, The grounds are lovely and setting is good. It was dated and overpriced.

Wide variety of activities on site. Very friendly and helpful staff. Food was excellent and a special vegetarian meal was prepared for my wife. The resort was set in an idyllic landscape overlooking Rutland Water. On arrival we found we had not been expected until the following week as they had not checked our details correctly. Even after producing our booking confirmation we were allocated a standard room instead of a deluxe room. The following morning, after checking the size of the room the hotel kindly upgraded us to a superior room which was excellent.

Barnsdale's location and surroundings are simply lovely. I stayed in the hotel and had a spacious room with all the facilities you would expect. As I was on the ground floor I did not benefit from the lake view that balcony rooms have, but I did have views of the gardens and old part of the hotel. The restaurant staff, particularly at breakfast time were not friendly and it was difficult to attract their attention. The restaurant meals were over priced for what they were - a view shared by other guests that I spoke to.

Lovely Setting. Good Looking Buildings set in nice grounds. Easy Access. The Bar and Restaurant is not in keeping with the Ambience of the Hotel. We wanted a few drinks in nice surroundings, then a meal. Unfortunately, we were surrounded by people who had used the leisure facilities and the atmosphere was not what we would expect.

Staff at this hotel were friendly and welcoming and restaurant staff were especially attentive. Breakfast was good with a wide selection of hot and cold foods in a buffet selection. My bedroom was clean and comfortable despite its compact size (I had booked a small double and it certainly fitted that description!) and had a well stocked hospitality tray on which I was pleased to also find hot chocolate as well as biscuits. The shower was hot with a good head of spray but my room was on the top floor and the shower head was set against a sloping ceiling so that there was not room to stand under it (I am of medium height). This was a minor gripe and there was a bath available also so it was perfectly possible to have a good wash.

The setting was very good. Quiet. Overall a pleasant experience. Dinner special offers where only evident on a very small piece of paper in reception, and not in restaurant itself, which we only saw on departure, so not very well informed. Restaurant food was a little overpriced. Breakfasts very good. The hotel is a little disjointed/spread out

Brilliant value for a family suite with tons of room. Lovely food in bar area and colouring for kids. Great pool area and playroom. Everything felt like a special treat for us as we normally stay at Premier Inns. Brilliant stay in a beautiful location. A couple of touches in the room would have been great for the kids knowing we travelled as a family ie. Colourings, fruit shhot, kids biscuits.

My initial request (refer to section below) was finally dealt with on the following day and we were given a beautiful room with stunning views. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience as it ticked all the boxes on what we look for in a hotel. My request of a room change to one with a view was not dealt with immediately (I.E. on the same day).

Good location and clean accomodation, helpfull staff. The room was dismal and dark very used and in need of an uplift, the amount of money we paid was more than ample for what we can only describe as a one star hotel. My wife ordered scrambled egg for breakfast which was not cooked and would have made her ill had she ate it she was offered another breakfast but after that she could not face more food, although my all day breakfast was ok. The bathroom was cold and smelt of mould with no ventilation and a slippery floor, it probably would have been ok in mid summer. We moved on to a Premier lodge for which we paid a lot less money with much nicer accomodation. This was not a luxury room.
