De Vere Venues Barony Castle

Good comfortable room, pleasant surroundings and a fascinating building. As we only stayed one night, we didn't have time for any of its facilities really. Pool looked good though. Will stay again when next in the area.

No-one on reception to give us a key when we returned after a night out. Anyone could have walked in. Minor complaint really, soon found someone in the bar.

The hotel was nicely located in the countryside and looked imposing although I was taken aback by the large number of vehicles that were there (see below). The staff were adequate without being overly friendly, there was, however, no-one at the door to help with bags. The food in the restaurant was good, and here the staff were young, willing and very friendly - although the restaurant itself was rather gloomy. Free tea and coffee in an outside conservatory was good.

My wife and I had been to many hotels and this one just 'lacked something' for it is billed as upmarket, but it is not. It doesn't just share with the Scottish Ambulance Service, it is full of the sas! It was like being in a fraternity house all over again with people in uniforms dashing about to training rooms of one sort or other. The room was adequate (breakfast was not included - not even a continental breakfast), bathroom accoutrements were minimal (the shower was good), there was no toilet brush, the floors and doors creaked, both inside and outside the room.

Although the booking was at a reduced rate we were still surprised at the smallness of the room howevr it did supply the needs of ann overnight stay so was therefore acceptable. It was disappointing that the reservation for the other two people who formed part of the same party had not been recorded however the receptionist dealt with that speedily and without fuss.

The hotel's grounds were obviously not being kept up which was disappointing and the food, both dinner and breakfast was the worst we have ever experienced and is subject to a separate complaint.

Doors to bedroom very loud was woke up alot during the night . Two dirty bathroom towels were in the hall near the lift for the duration of our stay . Pool very cold

Warm welcome at reception and staff were frtiendly . Better than a lot of 4 star hotels . Rooms fresh and spacious. Would stay again

Understaffed at bar . Noise insulation poor

Good l;ocation, enjoyed the walks around the hotel, nice atmosphere in bar and restaurant. We had an enjoyable meal on Sunday evening.

It was the perfect location to relax & get away from it all.

The only complaint I had was tht the pool was too cold.

The staf were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and fresh and the food was excellent. A very enjoyable stay and we will return.

Room 104 was disgraceful hotel very shabby food atrocious very concerning to find ambulance staff in uniform drinking in the bar !!!. Was planning to have our wedding there cancelled appointment with wedding planner

The location is peaceful, picturesque and great if you want to go mountainbiking at Glentress or Innerleithen. Rooms are comfortable and clean.

Very friendly staff and extremely tasty food

Fitneess room basic and needed air con, food portions a little small, but guess that saves time in the fitness room
