Room was good value for money, clean and comfortable. Exterior of hotel great.interior a shock Did not like the characterless nature of communal facilities, prefered to eat elsewhere in the evening because of this. Communal seating very low and uncomfortable. No ambiance ,needs to reflect the fact your in scotland ,a touch of tartan on the staff uniforms, boutique hotel style done on a very small budget has had its day - brighten up the communal areas, put some comfortable seating in the communal areas, sack your interior designer( if you had one) needs some art on those drab walls. You need to think about what people would expect to see inside and its not that ! did not enjoy dragging my suitcase to the top floor no lift--bad back= harrowing experience did not know the room was situated in such a difficult to access room

Great value for money as I had a reduced rate for both nights stay. Beautiful grounds and very peaceful setting. Very helpful and professional staff and service to a high standard. A great choice of ingredients at the 'help yourself' breakfast, particularly the porridge! The hotel has grounds for being a quality 5 star hotel if a complete makeover was made on the bedrooms. I found these very dated with old 70's type furniture along with very basic and shoddy bathroom fittings. This was in complete contrast to the downstairs plush bar and dining facilities.

Location and first impression and visual appearance of the hotel. Quiet and relaxing with countrside views. Bar food was very good. Reception staff could give clearer instructions to rooms. Lack of signage in corridors caused disorientation. No Scottish beers or local ales in bar especially as there are several local brewers. Disappointing that there was no local food produce on the menu given countryside location and quality of produce available. Surprised no complimentary shower/ bath products in room. Sad to see historical relief map left to disrepair.

Lovely comfy bed. Thought the walks were limited. The rooms were nice but the floor boards very squeaky. Pool was lovely as was the sauna. Would have liked some reading material to be available in the lounge area, such as daily papers etc Staff were very helpful and approchable Thought that meal prices were fair - but - the extra money added on for steaks were outragious. This did stop us from eating in the hotel The disgraceful supplement charges for the steak option on the menu The squeaky floor boards The bathrooms could certainly be doing with being updated

Very relaxing stay at the castle. We had breakfast which was excellent and also used the swimming pool and sauna. I liked my stay so much that I booked it again! I have also told family and friends what a great place the castle is to stay at. Peebles is only a short drive away so plenty of shopping available there if you wish. Staff at Barony castle were excellent very good customer care which is important and very clean rooms. Excellent value for money some very good deals available at the time of my booking. If you like cycling the castle has free mountain bikes if you feel energetic! Book it now before I do! Loved it.

Very picturesque and the grounds, I imagine, would be lovely in spring summer autumn. The sofas in the lounge bar were well past their best and the fish and chips was pretty bland.

Exceptional value for money and excellent customer focus. Felt like I had stayed somewhere I would have paid 10 times more than what I actually did. The staff were all really impressive - every one of them. Will definitely return. the leisure facilities could do with a little investment.

Building, Location, Pleasant staff, room size, decor, price. Squeaky floorboards in bedrooms, different price of breakfast on line to what I was charged, I.E. £7.50 online to £8.50 rerquested and paid at hotel. Being asked for a further £2.50 credit card fee after booking online and already paying. Value was good but that type of hidden cost leaves a sour taste in mouth.

Nearly everything was very good. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Room was good value considering we had a reduced rate. Breakfast excellent value, wide variety and tasty. sauna good. Serving staff were a little abrupt for an upmarket place. Dumped plated meals down in front of us a bit like in a greasy spoon cafe. One server tried to take my plate while i was still chewing my final mouthful! apart from these small details, i would defintiely recommend. A great venue.

I visited Barony Castle for a friend's wedding and it was a lovely location with lovely facilities for the wedding, very nice room with great facilities (lovely tea!) and a reasonable bar. I would be slightly disappointed if I had paid full price as the room was quite small, but grabbing a bargain from booking.com made it well worth the price.

“From the moment we arrived at the Horshoe Inn we felt welcome. Friendly and helpfull staff greeted us, and we were shown to a small but delightfull room. Clean and well equipted with the whitest fluffiest duvet ever. We ate in the Bistro and the food was exceptional, so much better than we had expected considering they also have a restaurant. The owner mingles with the guests, and the staff couldn't be more attentive. Breakfast was superb, so all in all somewhere we will certainly visit again when in the area, in fact we would probably go out of our way to visit again. So good to find a gem like this. Thank you to The Horshoe for making a night on our journey home so enjoyable.” Anne, Sunderland |
