We would certainly recommend Barton Cross Hotel. The Hotel has beautiful decor, it's romantic and full of character and charm. The rooms are lovely - clean, comfortable, bright and spacious. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner of very high standard and presented beautifully. After a very comfortable nights sleep we were again delighted to enjoy a hearty full English breakfast. We would certainly stay again and wished our stay had been longer. Thank you Barton Cross Hotel.

Everything. The service, the friendliness, the desire to please, welcome, accomodate, and to serve us. The food was excellent in quality, preparation, presentation and service. The Wine List was remarkable in its selection and price range - from the modest to Premier Cru. Additional (and foc) and unexpected treats were provided, eg, bonne bouches and, Chef's special soup was offered. The location is rural and quiet, yet only 15 mins from St David's main line station. The ambience was welcoming, warm and intimate.

this is my second stay at this hotel and I cannot recommend it highly enough, I stay away about 36 weeks a year in various places and this is my favourite hotel, staff are extremely accommodating, food is excellent and it is truly a relaxing place to stay.

The staff were more than helpful. The breakfasts superb. The location ideal as very quiet and peaceful but also very close to Exeter. Thank you for a lovely stay and for sharing some of the history of the Hotel with us. If I had to find a problem I would say the bathroom needed updating but certainly everything was clean and in good working order so not really a 'problem'.

We enjoyed the setting of the Barton Cross Hotel. Although a bit far from Exeter, Brian, the host, drove us into town each morning. We had no difficulty making our way home in the evening. Since we planned to explore the coast we found that the distance was not too problematic because we spent our days out in the countryside. Brian was an exceptional host. We had our first dinner there and the food was fabulous. If you're staying at the hotel and fancy a gourmet meal I'd suggest at least having one meal there. The breakfasts were great as well. Renting a car would be advisable if staying for longer than a couple of days, particularly if you want to do a little exploration of the region. Although the bus does offer an 'explorer' pass for a day which is very reasonably priced.

Barton Cross Hotel was excellent. Beautiful location and kind caring staff. My only critique is the BOOKING.COM website which at the time of the booking located the hotel in the upper right hand (northwest) corner of the university campus giving the impression the hotel was centrally located. I hope this can be fixed.

The Barton Cross Hotel was quite a surprise as it is hidden behind a lot of hedge rows down a country road, but once discovered it was a gem. Small, and personal, with a very comfortable ambience including a 17th century cottage layout. The bedroom was very well appointed, the restaurant superb, the bar a place you wanted to spend many hours, and the staff very friendly. It is not very accessable to transport so you really need a car. We recommend it to any traveller wanting an intimate hotel with great service.

An absolutely lovely little place in the middle of nowhere, just what I had been hoping for. Cosy and welcoming, like stepping back in time. Good food. Can't comment on the wine list as I don't drink, but could imagine spending winter nights nursing whisky in front of the fire and never get bored of it.

It is great to find an independent hotel that has preserved the quintessential, traditional English country hotel. Right from our initial welcome, through a marvellous dining experience to a fantastic breakfast, the owners could not do enough for you. If you want a traditional 14th Century thatched, beamed property to relax in, while enjoying the rolling Devon hills, this is the place The bedrrom and bathroom furnishings, while adequate and functional, are beginning to show their age and a sympathetic modernisation programme would enhance the experience.

Very friendly staff. Professional yet personal. Had a very nostalgic feel about it, but amenities were up to scratch. Really enjoyed staying here. The meals were first class. Only drawback was the smell of smoke in the hotel at times.

The location was ideal for us - deep in the countryside with walks all round yet only half a mile from the bus route. The food was absolutely delicious every night. The sleeping accommodation and bathroom were not brilliant.
