In the heart of some of best countryside in the mid-Wales borders, this family-run 3-star inn provides the perfect spot from which to explore this wild and wonderful land. The Baskerville Arms is just 1.3 miles (2 km) from the famous town of Hay-on-Wye, known throughout the world as the 'Town of Books'. This unique town, with its maze of narrow ancient streets, now houses over 30 bookshops, a variety of galleries, antique and gift shops and numerous cafes and tearooms. On the north-east tip of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons, and within walking distance of the River Wye, you will never be short of something to keep you occupied whilst staying at this charming inn. Please note that the hotel does not accept American Express cards. The Hotel is fairly centrally placed for a number of attractions, and the food is reasonably priced and of a good quality. The room we had was comfortable, and large enough for 2 adults to move around fairly easily. The full English breakfast was not included in the price, but a variety of options were available-however, some of the kitchen staff cooking them didn't know what was included with which one!!! If you are in a rush to get going in the morning, please be advised to be one of the first there as there is no sense of urgency!! The plus side to this though is that it can get somewhat comical at times, almost to the point that you expect Basil Fawlty to emerge at any point!!! Also the night we arrived was the locally well know "Steak Night" well worth it at a pound an ounce (your choice as to exactly how much you think you can eat) but the down side is that the Hotel do not reserve any seating for the staying guest, so book a table when booking your stay or you may be dissappointed. Having said all of this, there is enough variety on the menu for most people to have a different meal every night, the staff are friendly and helpful, and we would probably stay there again should we be in the area.

The b&b was pleasant, comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and as it is a family run business it had a homely feel to it. Everything is closed between the hours of 3pm and 6pm so slightly strange but you get used to it.

staff and owners very friendly and i am on a gluten free diet and they did everything they could to provide me with lovely meals including gluten free bread for breakfast

Attractive bar and breakfast room. Reasonable choice of vegetarian food. Upgrade of en-suite bathroom incomplete and reception area could be more welcoming. Tatty officious notices.

The hosts were very obliging and accommodating. Lovely atmosphere in village of Clyro. Food excellent and owners helpful and friendly with a great sense of humor. Would recommend to anyone.

We felt all the staff were very friendly and we instantly felt like locals in the bar. The sitting area outside our room was comfortable and the continental breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day. The pub food was very good and reasonably priced. It's a homely, no frills hotel but that suited us fine and there is some lovely scenery around and it's closeness to Hay on Wye was the main attraction for us. We would recommend it to friends. The rooms are quite small but this could be described as cosy and the TV was microsized although we wouldn't have watched it anyway but this might disappoint others. I was happy with just a bath and had a lovely soak but, again, others might be disappointed by the lack of a shower. Surprised about the small choice in ciders given how close we were to Herefordshire but at least that kept us sober!
