Lovely people, relaxing and romantic location. Karen and Mike were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent with some very interesting meals on the menu. We can highly recommend and we will of course be going back again.
The whole experience
Castle environment, Good interior decoration, Comfortable mattress, Friendly and helpful staff
The castle is close to a busy road. Those rooms which are facing to the road may be little bit noisy.
Personnel is very good and food is excellent.
The room was no good, small room, bad toilet, a lot of noise from outside including high noise from road.
great warm welcome, exquisite surroundings.
As part of out wedding anniversary celebration we booked a night here . Our room had a bathroom in a turret with slit windows and a door on to the ramparts wich was our own private roof garden so lovely in the sun shine and the moon light .
The castle is right on the road , not so buisy at night , we slept well . Would like the room to have looked more castley inside could do with some suits of armor and stag heads etc. looked a bit plain when curtains were closed .
Lovely room with the bathroom in a turret. Excellent restaurant with very tasty meals served. Hot tub in the garden was a real treat after a day sight-seeing.
The manageress was exceptionally friendly, she and her staff couldn't do enough to help! Splendid setting, very relaxing and romantic, already planning a second visit with all the family. Lovely wine fantastic food and very nice atmosphere.
Really loved the friendly staff felt like you are staying at a friends home really welcoming :-)
Excellent experience, great value!
I loved Bath Lodge Castle! We arrived to be told that we had been upgraded which was a really lovely surprise as I booked the castle as a birthday present for my partner. It was so quiet and the grounds were beautiful! Staff were friendly and willing to be of help and support wherever possible. I would definitely recommend it and we plan on returning very soon! Wonderful experience thank you for having us!!
All good except road
We really enjoyed our stay the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms where spacious and very comfortable - I wish we could have stayed longer.
The place itself is beautiful,inside&out..so idyllic. Our room was perfect, with the best bed ever! We had the warmest welcome,&once we were settled in our room,we were advised on how best to get around Bath (parking, whats best to go&see, etc)all the staff were so genuine&friendly, and the meal(esp.the 12min wonder dessert..)was perhaps the best dessert Ive ever had-its worth the wait!! I would definitely go again-Highly recommended...
The owner was always available and helpful; The food was sumptuous especially the homemade croissants which were warm fro m the oven
Beautiful building. Smartly decorated room. Beautiful grounds & garden. Seemed clean.
We arrived later than we would have liked & received a peculiar reception. Although 'niceties' were in place - it wasn't overly friendly. We weren't told about breakfast times or any of the standard information. However, we were told to make sure we close our door properly as it has been broken since someone tried to break into the room!! There was no information in the rooms. No wifi (although reception wasn't bad). It was 20 mins drive into bath, so not an easy taxi drive away. The shower turned itself on about 10 minutes after use. When my husband went to ask for further info the lady was on the phone (apparently saying there are people here - but remaining on the phone) and other staff were chatting - he had to wait & felt so awkward he left without asking what he went to ask. The bed was incredibly soft & uncomfortable. The duvet was a thick goose (on the hottest day of the year!) & there were no fans or alternatives provided. Sadly, with the window open there was the road traffic (& one crazy thunderstorm!) the window also opened onto a patio area with barbecue which I imagine must be a pain for that room when it's in use (it wasn't while we were there - thankfully!) There was what I can only presume was emergency lighting in the room, which was a bright white light for around 10 seconds & came on 3 times randomly between 12:30 & 3am. I'm unsure if this is because of the major thunderstorm outside, but it was unnecessary regardless (no it wasn't lightning!). & then the kitchen extractor fan came on early the next morning, meaning I was woken again. All in all, a terrible nights sleep! Breakfast turned out to be continental only - or further cost for full English. At £160 for the room, I'd expect more option! We were both incredibly disappointed with our stay, which was part of our honeymoon.
Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff. Welcoming atmosphere.
Not enough drawer and cupboard space for clothes. Noise of traffic.
Excellent rooms very clean good breakfast
the lodge is in a nice setting and on the days we were there it was blessed with glorious sunshine so the flowers bloomed and the setting excelled. The room was quirky and generous but we enjoy that look and eccentricity. The food was very good and the hostess and staff could not have been more welcoming. Cleanliness was superb as was the inventive use of space. A pleasant experience all round.
the floors are creaky and the "noises off" were a little disruptive at times but that is the price for staying in a very old but well maintained "castle". Traffic is close but not too obtrusive.
This unique property sits in a rural location but with easy access to Bath. Pleasant terrace and gardens and comfortable room. More a guest house than hotel but don't be put off by this - what you lose in facilities you gain in personal attention.
Little to dislike.
The castle itself was amazing, the grounds were immaculate and well looked after. The rooms were lovely and big and it was an added bonus to be able to separate the boys bedroom from ours (we had the leeds-edinburgh suite). lovely tranquil spot. The rooms were spotless and the staff were very helpful in receiving and setting up our room for the balloons and cake I had organised for my husbands birthday celebration. The castle itself has been renovated to an amazing standard where the old side has been preserved and decorated very tastefully. I loved it here and we were all sad to say goodbye.
No restaurant on the sunday and the restaurant opening times were too late to book in a meal for the family as my 4 and 5 year old are normally in bed by 7.30pm.
The castle and grounds are stunning. Both the common areas and our suite were beautifully appointed. The hotel makes inventive use of all the castle spaces (a powder room in a turret, for example) which adds to the fun when staying there. The breakfast included with the room rate (which is not the full English breakfast) was varied and tasty with some delightful touches.
The proprietor, Karen, gave us quite a chilly reception. We felt unwelcome. When I asked a question, she said "It's all right there" and referred me to a sign. The other staff members were lovely to us, though. The distance from Bath (which is posted on the website, I must say) made for a long and very expensive (about $50 US) cab ride so the location is not ideal if you don't have a car. Also, being directly on a busy highway unfortunately did detract from the castle experience.
Excellent location, excellent property, staff made us feel welcome, children had a great time!
No complaints whatsoever!
We loved the way we were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. Fabulous to stay at a luxurious Castle. The pavilion housing the sauna and hot tub is great. Excellent meals are served in the restaurant that also caters for special dietary requirements.
Everything was beautiful. Especially the spa! And breakfast was lovely
