Set on 24 acres of parkland just 10 miles away from the city of Durham, this 17th century hall has been restored to its original splendor and is now an exclusive country house hotel. Next door to Beamish Open-Air Museum, the hotel is located 12 miles northwest of the historic city of Durham and 8 miles southwest of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The famous sites of Hadrians Wall, Lindisfarne Castle, Chester Roman Fort and Hexham Abbey can also be found nearby. Stayed for a New Years Eve party which was well organised. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were very comfortable with that old fashioned feel of an old hall but with modern touches to make your stay comfortable. The brunch style breakfast on New Years day was fantastic, even had steak and gammon on breakfast buffet and blissfully was on until midday, excellent after a few the night before!

My husband and I stopped at the hotel on the way back from Scotland. We thought the layout was beautiful and the setting was nice. I would recomend the hotel. The Stables was a very nice place to eat and the food was lovely. The staff were very helpful.

I can't really evaluate the hotel on simply an overnight stay following a wedding reception there. However, what I can say is that the food provided by the hotel for the wedding reception was excellent. Everyone was served very quickly whilst the meal was still hot. There was plenty of it and was beautiully presented. Wine glasses were topped up regularly and plates cleared just as fast. We were in the Winter Garden - a lovely room with adequate space for all. Very very nice. If I need to have a grumble, it's that our room was a little small. Fine for just overnight, but would not like this for a week or so. My husband and I were climbing over each other when we were trying to get ready for the reception. There was only one bedside light, so had to have the top light on for reading in bed.

We stayed at Beamish Hall hotel for a wedding, which was conducted there as well as the reception. It was a beautiful setting, the hotel and staff were very attentive and helpful. Unfortunately I received an email the day before our trip advising us that we would only have a room for one night and would be relocated to a nearby hotel for the saturday due to a computer error resulting in overbooking. After complaining to the Hotel Manager, the situation was rectified, our room was upgraded and we received complementary dinner. We ate in the restaurant, which was excellent, as was the ample and varied breakfast. Our room was vast and comfortable, although other rooms we saw were very small indeed and quite cramped. Facilities for the disabled are not good, but overall a beautiful place with very friendly and helpful staff. Would definately stay there again and would highly recommend it. Other people in our wedding party went to book in on the saturday to find themselves being moved to a nearby hotel. Not acceptable when room had been booked since last year and no prior notice. Booking system needs sorting out desperately.

Traditional hotel that was warm. We were there as part of friends wedding/ The reception was held at the hotel which was excellent and the staff looked were excelent for the reception and evening event. It felt lke there should have been more staff during breakfast, which wasnt a problem for us as we had decided to take the following day slowly, but there was a long wait after being seated to get coffee and order the excellent cooked breakfast Hot water was tepid in the morning

The staff were very polite and check in was very quick. The breakfast was lovely and the location was perfect for relaxing. The building was gorgeous and very traditional. The smoke alarms sounded on both nights and although it was only for a short time it was enough to wake us up and then I couldn't get back to sleep.

A lovely hotel! We could eat at the Stables upon arrival rather than wait for fixed meal times. Lots more to see and do - much more than we had time for this trip. The location of our room: unfortunately both windows opened into the small courtyard so no through breeze meant room very hot and noisy deliveries rattling across cobbles broke our sleep. But, would book this hotel again in different room!

Excellent breakfast and breakfast staff. Hotel and grounds very good. Reception good. Bar good. Rooms extremely uncomfortably hot resulting in lack of sleep. Started in room 214 which over Boiler room and moved to 206 which also hot even with window open . Dinner food overcooked and many staff indifferent.

Great walks to the Causey Arch and a short journey to the Gibside estate. Relaxing place in a haven but within easy reach of both Newcastle and the coast. Enjoyed the sense of history which the building afforded and the breakfasts were great in the hotel. Everyone on the staff was friendly, but that it only to be expected with Geordies, and helpful and professional. This is an observation- you had no maps or information about local walking routes and cycle paths - this is a missed opportunity and possibly could be developed for your marketing. While the Stables was OK - the food there could be even better there.

The setting is beautiful and we were ideally situated for both work and leisure. The staff are attentive and professional. The breakfast was wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay! The only minor issue is that the bedroom was quite small. However, we still believe the hotel offered greatvalue for money
