Friendliness of all staff, good selection on menu and well presented. Good location, hence return visit.
Room we had was next to stairs and a bit noisy, when people left at 0540hrs, on the 2 mornings we were there.
Staff are absolutely amazing and will go above and beyond for their guests, we have been twice now and the atmosphere is fun, friendly and very inviting. The food is gorgeous and tailored to what you want. The staff have a great sense of humour and genuinely seem to care. We live 20 miles away and this is our little retreat, cannot fault it.
Leaving Staff were friendly and the wifi worked well
Smell of dirty cooking oil as I walked into the reception, room smelt of stagnant water, food was average.
nothing to dislike
Quality of food - Superb. Staff couldn't do enough for you. 2nd visit, will definitely be back.
Décor a little tired in places - but no where near bad enough to spoil the stay.
Warm Welcome from friendly and entertaining staff, great restaurant food and service without breaking the bank.
Meals were superb, staff friendly & helpful
Food was great
Poor cleanliness ,poorly maintained
Besides the categories above (all of which have been given top ratings by the two of us), we found that the room was light and airy and the WiFi in good working order, despite being told that we may have had to plug in to get a good reception. For the money, in England in 2014, unlikely to be bettered. Staff most friendly and welcoming, as you'd expect from a family-run business. (I knew I was doing the right thing in avoiding a chain hotel!)
The queueing traffic on the main road, waiting to get through the temporary traffic lights, but that isn't the hotel's business, is it? (I had to put something in this box!)
Not a lot.
The state of the building outside and the car park spelled neglect. Breakfast was barely adequate compared to other hotels in the same price bracket. Powder coffee for eg.
Easy access to places we wanted to see. Comfortable restaurant and bar. Staff welcoming.
Good location for Pickering and entry to North Yorks Moors National Park. Nice rooms and restaurant. Good parking. Staff very friendly.
Sadly, a group of girls had booked rooms on the Friday night we stayed and used one to have a late night party, which went on until the early hours. As there are no staff on overnight, there was nobody to get them to quieten down and it spoilt our sleep.
We stayed for the steam railway journey in the morning - and were very pleased with our choice Breakfast was fantastic!
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was good.bed was so comfy with good quality bedding and because both of our rooms were at the back of the hotel it was so quiet we both said we had slept like a log!
Only downside was lack of mobile signal - which of course was not the hotels fault.
Very clean comfortable and helpful staff. Location to pickering excellent. If using Taxis book early.
Small amount of road noise in the morning. Our room did face the main road. Cannot fault the hotel for this. We would stay here again.
The staff were excellent, very friendly and efficient.
The meals were good but the quantity was far too much, in fact quite offputting!
Large car park, friendly staff, well presented and nice food, room well presented and en suite had outside window so no need for that annoying internal fan. Most important the large bed was comfortable giving one a refreshing nights sleep.
Parts of hotel could do with re-decoration.
staff were very attentive and friendly hotel always smelt very clean. nice garden area with seating outside ample parking area
Outside could do with a good clean up and windows painted. very noisy in room even at the back as it is on a busy road and could hear traffic all the time. rooms need updating - bathroom only had one shelf which was above the toilet and was tilted so couldn't put anything on there and no where else to stand toiletries. bed was very big but was two mattresses put together. Bar area was very small not much privacy when having a drink in there. Although an enjoyable stay if I went back I would stay at the black bull further along the road - much bigger premises.
The staff where friendly and nothing was to mush bother. The food was really good. (We had an evening meal and breakfast) We will stay there again when we are next that way.
There was nothing to dislike.
Staff very friendly, we arrived just after 8 and they stop serving in the restaurant then but got the chef to hang on; rooms well appointed and clean, lovely big bath! Breakfast well cooked, evening meal well cooked, mushrooms followed by steak just a requested. Bar area cosy. Handy for Pickering only 2 miles for more restaurant options as well as for seeing local area...
Room at front of hotel and a little noisy in the early morning; restaurant very quiet so lacked a bit of atmosphere, bur breakfast on second morning a bit slow, but these are quibbles, the hotel is reasonable value and a good place to stay.
Poor customer service. In desperate need of modernisation, painting and toilet seats ( who paints toilet seats! )
Staff friendliness, service, good food
this was a good location for a couple of places on our tour of Yorkshire it also had a large car park- the staff were friendly enough
on the first night we went down for dinner about 8 pm to be told we were to late: we were disappointed as we were told on checking in just to turn up when we were ready
Friendly service Excellent meal in the restaurant Good tradition breakfast without the hash browns...delicious. Good value for money for our stay and the restaurant. Good location for visiting our family in Norton
Nice and cosy hotel. Homely bedrooms very spacious and comfortable. Location was very good for exploring Pickering and the north Yorkshire moors railway
