Just a few minutes’ walk from Oxford city center, the Head of the River is on the banks of the scenic Thames River. The traditional inn features a riverside terrace and a stylish restaurant.

Score from 543 reviews Very good
Quiet rural location in a picture post card village. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will stay again when I need to visit Oxford.
Great menu, fantastic wine list, and good staff. Room was also excellent with great facilities and nice little extra touches. Quiet little village in nice setting, why pay 50% more for a chain hotel in the city centre, pay for wifi, and below average food. Will be back, if down that way.
Nothing to report!
Restaurant menu and food were great. A varied and reasonably priced wine list too. Staff were friendly and ready to help.
Querky room (Number 9), small, uneven floors, small door ways. Big bathroom, but shower over bath. (Tiny wardrobe, no mirror in room). But clean and everything worked. Might suit some - depends on what you want.
Friendly interaction with the staff
Mattress, too soft
Everything.Decor very in keeping with the ambience of the inn. Splendid and very generous breakfast.
Everything very well maintained and tasteful.
Loved the friendliness and Helpfulness of the staff, our old world accommodation was one of the reasons we chose the Bear & Ragged Staff and we were not disappointed although the stairs proved a challenge with our luggage. Didn't meet the ghost they told us about!!!!! Bathroom a real piece of luxury although my husband bumping his head provided some real laughs. Great place to meet the locals.
Atmosphere and food were excellent
Comfortable room that was well equipped. Good location, only a short drive from Oxford city centre. Friendly staff who were quick to help. Hope to visit again.
The staff at The Bear and Ragged Staff were professional, extremely polite. The breakfast staff went out of their way to help with information when it was requested. The menu was also excellent and fairly priced.
Excellent service. beautiful rooms, great restaurant too. Superb.
Every were was very clean and fresh and very homely :) Food was great as well
Staff were excellent, really friendly and helpful! decor is nice and the rrom was spacious and modern. Pub is located just a few miles outside of oxford and the bus stop is located a few minutes walk away. The food was amazing I had a sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection! breakfast was nice with selection of cereal, pastries, toast (crusty fresh bread) and fruits. I would definitely go back to this pub if in the area and will also recommend to friends and family.
Nothing bad to say!
We stayed in room one, labelled a 'superior double' and it was clean and beautiful. The staff were friendly and there were a range of complimentary breakfast options. Really modern features in the room and new bathroom. At most 10 minutes from Seacourt Park and Ride into the city centre.
Excellent restaurant if a little pricey. The food was very very good, and staff had great understanding of food intolerance. Large comfortable room with everything we needed.
A few items not available from menu, but this is a minor gripe. I would recommend anyone to stay here.
Lovely country pub hotel Rooms furnished to a high standard Very friendly staff - food all to a very high quality
Nothing to complain about - perfect
NICE CLEAN MODERN ROOM ALONG WITH A NICE BAR AND DINING ROOM. FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL STAFF MADE IT A VERY PLEASANT STAY. WILL GO BACK FOR A RETURN VISIT.
NOTHING TO DISLIKE. NO NEGATIVES, ONLY POSITIVES.
Interesting choice of evening food. Rooms with character. The staff were knowledgeable and approachable. Good coffee and wine.
Loft room was too hot. Too much FRIED food on breakfast plate so greasy. Better with grilled Mushrooms, tomatoes and black pud. Tasty though.
Fantastic room - good size, well-furnished, big bed
motion activated light in lobby between bedroom and bathroom
Lovely gastropub 15 minutes drive west of Oxford. Very nice room, high ceilings, great bathroom. Rare in England, especially at this price. Restaurant was very good and worth making the trip for.
Beds too soft, but this is an issue throughout UK. Breakfast staff very friendly but spoke very loudly on phone to people making reservations. Didn't help the ambiance much when people are shouting credit card numbers across a room...
Very Friendly Staff Quality of rooms Well looked after and cared for Excellent food
Great rooms, great pub and atmosphere, great food and service
