Restaurant, food, bar, various relaxation areas, croquet on the lawn, the building itself
Room was on the small side and no usable desk space for a laptop.
Lovely view from room, excellent breakfast, staff very friendly and good service, a fair price, interesting building.
Humming noise in room all night kept me awake. Our friend who is disabled was unable to use the restaurant as there was no ramp into dining room from reception so we had to eat elsewhere.
Atmosphere. Food and out door.courtyard. There is a croquet green. Walking on the common with cows grazing is a plus for location. Overall a charming place to stay with friendly staff.
Because it is an historic inn it is by the road albeit a country road. The windows are double and there is only noise at rush hour. The decorative features of the inn still make it a lovely place to stay.
Great location for us as our work was only a few miles away. Nice hotel and good breakfast.
The TV in the room did not work, told reception and they said someone would have a look, no one bothered to come up, very disappointed with this aspect as it is a nice way to relax after long days work
Lovely location with great views, comfortable hotel, friendly staff, great breakfast with loads of choice. Steak night excellent!
Everything was superb. We had a room with a four poster bed, which was a bonus! The food was amazing, both dinner and breakfast. Sitting outside in the sun with a drink, watching people playing croquet on the lawn was just perfect!
The restaurant served excellent breakfast and a fantastic gourmet dinner.
The bar food was ordinary and with not much flavour.
The food was excellent Staff were helpful Decor and different eating locations
Other guests The price! At bit high.
Tranquil and peaceful location, quality food and generous portions and courteous and friendly staff. Comfy duvet and bed and immaculate linen and towels
Reception staff could be more knowledgable re: local area and some sort of night life within a radius of 15 to 20 miles.
Every think the food and staff where excellent nothing was to much for them to do
The stay at the Bear fulfilled our needs for a location near somewhere we had to visit. We chose the hotel not knowing of the location and we were pleasantly surprised by the spot on the common.
Breakfast Decor Location Bedroom Bed Free WiFi
Bar menu, overpriced for average food.
The room was very well presented and the bed was excellent. Food in the bar was very good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I think I would return to this hotel.
But the breakfast was slightly disappointing. The cooked breakfast (porridge and full English, and poached eggs for my wife) was not really up to standard. I would expect better for this standard of hotel.
Hotel and grounds spotlessly clean.staff helpful, food good, breakfast very good. a really nice place to stay.
No hot water in our room, although we received a small reduction in our bill. We had booked our room for the Jacuzzi bath , so this somewhat took the edge off a great stay.
Décor Location - good for walking dogs Dog friendly Bar food good
Restaurant too expensive for every day meals
Nice grounds and buildings
Inexperienced staff and hair in my food!
The traffic noise as the hotel is situated on a crossing. As the weather was quite hot with no airco you want to leave the windows open which made sleeping quite difficult with all the cars passing
Very comfortable hotel.
- lovely croquet ground
- too much noise from street. Slept very bad in room at the street side.
The setting of the hotel was nice and also enough parkingplaces.
staff was not very helpful and polite. It was very noisy. The room was not clean. The water from the shower was sometimes cold. The breakfast buffet was good but the hot dishes were not good. Toast on the table was not crispy but old and tough because they were on the table for too long.
nice old building, helpful staff, good food, beautiful garden /backyard
noise from ventilation system close to window
Building has great character. Sheltered inner courtyard. Friendly staff. Excellent food. Great location, with fine views nearby.
Bedroom a little cramped
