Score from 214 reviews Good
Quality of food in the restaurant & breakfast choice very good.
No Bottled Water, lighting in room could be improved.
Great staff (all English ! ) Good size room/bathroom. Easy to find/close to town,
Lighting not great to read by in bedroom. Food good, but will not keep the punters coming back. Ideally would need triple glazing to shut out A4 noise.
clean, excellent bed, great staff. Note that the 'superior' room looks around onto mini roundabout at the front. Better off to pay LESS and get a room with a view over the water/'bear island'.
wifi requires you to sign up to a provider which requires you to agree to receive spam from 3rd parties. The breakfast overall was very good (juice, pastries, fruit, cereal etc) but avoid the cooked English breakfast...truly woeful.
great midweek stay large room comfy bed good english breakfast staff friendly.
Very spacious superior room, with comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, and as we requested, it was quiet. The staff were very pleasant, and a light lunch in the sunny courtyard with a couple of glasses of wine was bliss. Good location for walking to the town, and only a short hop from the M4. Very nice hotel in a very nice place!
Alas, I think the breakfast cook needs a little training on cooking food properly so it looks & tastes appetising, only part of our stay that was sub-standard, very sorry to say.....
A comfortable stay and the staff were very polite. Breakfast was very good.
Nothing changed standards are still very high from my first nights stay to my last :-)
Breakfast and location
Very dirty and damp in bedroom and bathroom
Large room & bathroom Food good
Cold water tap in sink - poor flow Shower too high to adjust & poor spray Mattresses not comfortable
A genuinely warm welcome to a charming old hotel in the fabulous town of Hungerford. Delightful rooms, great breakfasts and really helpful staff made this a 10/10 for my wife and I.
The balcony overlooking the stream. The receptionist .Caroline .was very helpful
The room was not as cleen as it should have been, and in neadof TLC, ie rust on pipes of towl rail .shower had little pressure
staff were helpful
noise from the road, traffic lights outside room
Lovely room , nicely decorated, good location
Room could have been cleaner and courtyard garden had no plants or flowers in the abandoned pots, hanging baskets , and empty flower beds.
Great location Quiet Comfortable beds
Room looked tired and in need or some TLC Standard room with view nothing like in the pictures shown. Cooked breakfast was barely warm. Breakfast staff too busy Not value for money
Pleasant courtyard and gardens backing onto the river.
Traffic noise from A4 / A338. Key card system was very unreliable. Pervasive cooking smells in the bar and courtyard.
The room, the food, the warm and welcome reception. We loved our stay and will be back again!
No front of house service in the restaurant for dinner or breakfast, maybe just hire a person for a couple of hours during busy nights and for breakfast to tell people where to sit and what to wait for. Other than that we have no complaints!
The standard of the rooms is acceptable for the price range.
In a 2 week trip around the UK, staying in many different places, the food at the Bear Hotel was, by some distance, the worst. This is the type of facility that used to give British food such a bad name.
Good location, clean and friendly hotel, and reasonably priced with inclusive breakfast.
Room 33 is above the room used for wedding receptions, the music can be quite loud, not a problem for us, but could put other guests off. Also applies to room 32
Food and hospitality staff very attentive and good humoured excellent venue for the wedding we attended
Stayed in room 28 lovely room but very poor shower no pressure
The location is excellent for many historical cities & sites. The breakfast was excellent, the room though small was very nice, with a running stream outside our window.
Good position, food and friendly staff made for an enjoyable stay.
Lack of drawer space and no towel rail in the room along with the poor standard of cleaning let the hotel down.
Unable to adjust shower which was very hot. Very little cold water from bathroom sink tap.
We enjoyed our stay- our room was clean and comfortable, sheets and pillows were lovely, and we had a nice meal in the beer garden (although service here was SLLOOOW). The receptionists we met were both friendly and helpful.
Our room was quite hot, and as the window opening was low and we have a small child we couldn't leave the window open to cool down. Our room was fine, but the hallways had awful smells. And in the family room the child beds are quite high; our son fell off in the middle of the night.
Balcony overlooking the River and very clean comfortable room.
Liked looking out on to park.
Room too small for suitcases.
