Loved the bedroom - we were in the converted barn annexe and thought the conversion was very tastefully done to include the oak beams. The food was lovely.

I attended a friend's Wedding - the ceremony and reception were held at The Bear Hotel. Everything was perfect and the location couldn't be bettered. Well done to the staff who made the day very special for two special people. I have already begun to recommend The Bear Hotel to people I know who travel in that direction or who could stop over for a meal.

All of the staff were very friendly and the rooms had style, were clean and fresh. The breakfast was excellent value. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Bear Hotel to friends and family. Thank you for an enjoyable stay - we wish it could have been longer. Best wishes, Tony and Nicola Adams

Comfortable and a good breakfast. Nice restaurant. And despite being on a main road was very quiet. would have liked a bath in the ensuite and there was too much neon lighting in the bar

Staff were absolutely fantastic...helpful, friendly and always smiling. The hotel is perfectly located, very easy stroll into town or into the countryside. Room was delightful and dinner delicious. Nothing. Our short stay was perfect and we will be back!

Not a lot. No hot water. Restaurant order was taken wrong as was charge. Waiter spilt our wine but didn't even apologise. Such a shame as the hotel itself looks lovely and there was one very pleasant young man waiting who was good. Shame on the experienced staff!!! As above. Had to beg for hot water. The order for our food was wrong and it wasnt difficult. The waiter spilt our wine and offered no apology. It's a nice looking hotel but I won't stay there again because of the shabby staff!!!

We had a comfortable room in the courtyard. It was a bit creaky due to the people above us in what is a very old building - creaking floorboards. Our meal in the bar was very good value - smae menu as the restaurant.

The staff should be more friendly . A smile costs nothing. We had a evening meal and the waitress made no effort at conversation. We felt we had upset her evening by eating there.

We liked the fact that The Bear is not part of a big group and thus has an individual character of its own. Atmosphere is very relaxed and staff very pleasant and friendly. We really appreciated being switched to a quiet room for our second night as the traffic kept us awake much of our first night. Meals are rather expensive and only limited choice for vegetarians. The decor in the bar/restaurant is very functional and it lacks the character of the rest of the hotel.

I knew the hotel as it was and liked it, but I did also like the re-modernisation. Room 9 was a delight, spacious, comfortable, huge bed, lovely bathroom. Faced the main road, but awoke to a Saturday morning so not too bad for traffic. Position near the river very pleasant, also Hungerford is not far off motorway, handy. It is a very historic hotel, so read up before setting off, makes the stay more interesting. Got a bargain on price so that's the main reason I stayed here. Manager must not be wanting to sell his San Miguel. £4.00 a pint, I bought one without being made aware of price then took off to a pub! Breakfast at £15.00 so didn't bother, don't think many did. I thought everyone understood we are in an era of severe austerity.

Convenient for the function we were attending. Free parking. Our balcony was filthy. We had to clean the chairs before we could sit on them. Cigarette ends on the wooden floor. Bedroom walls paper-thin. No biscuits provided with our coffee/tea.

Floor tiles loose in bathroom. Paint peeling off radiator in bathroom. Expected perhaps in cheaper hotel. One way system in car park means you exit onto the main road immediately adjacent to hotel. Difficult to see if the road is clear to the right. Reversal of the one way system would ease this problem, as the car park exit would then be well away from the hotel building. In answer to the next question (which does not allow a non-committal answer), I'm unsure whether I would recommend this hotel.

location. View from room! Our room was tiny. Couldn't shut bathroom door when using sink. Despite ridiculous cost, no breakfast included. Only one small bottle of water in room for two of us. We came with a wedding party. Room next to ours was for other guests, wasn't available although clearly no one in it, so we all had to change in one room. We were told would be informed when other room became available, but weren't.
